Melanie was lost, floating along. Wrapped in Kazuya's warm embrace as he sped off on his motorcycle. Left turns, right turns, up hill, down hill... All were the same to her. Almost like when you are in the ocean. When the tide turns, you don't really notice, you just float along.
When they finally stopped Melanie felt herself being lifted from the bike and gently carried inside. Where, she didn't know. Someone spoke quickly to someone else. Then it was more walking and finally, laying down somewhere soft and warm. She drifted out again a her chest wound was taken care of.
Something like dreams of her mother danced briefly around her head before a bright light woke her and her mother was gone again. "Please don't go." She heard herself say. Before opening her eyes she would take a deep breath, steadying herself for whatever was going to happen.
Her eyes snapped open and she sat up like a toy Jack in the Box, her hands balling into fists. Her eyes quickly looked over herself before turning in a defensive move against Kazuya. She knew the men here weren't to be trusted. 'Specially around sleeping girls. "What did you-" She barked before her head started spinning again and she closed her eyes. Trying to steady herself, so she wouldn't pass out again. "Whoa, too fast, spinney head. Don't try anything." She would point in Kazuya's general direction, eyes still closed.

Taken slightly aback as Melanie bolt straight up in the futon, her hands balling up into fists, the only visible sign Kazuya was caught off guard was raising both his eyebrows as she started to bark at him, before closing her eyes, hearing her say her head was spinning from sitting up too quickly, as she would point in his general direction. Staying seated where he was, he would make no move towards Melanie, instead staying silent, having her heard her say for someone or something to not go before she had woken up.
"He didn't do anything."
A voice would speak up, as the door of his bedroom slid open and a woman came walking in, stopping at the foot of the futon. A frown visible on her face, Zhen was about to tell Melanie off, that her leader had done absolutely nothing, only to stop before even getting a single word out as she saw Kazuya shake his head. There was no need to start an argument, especially an unnecessary one. Zhen's mouth open slightly, after a couple minutes, she would slowly close her mouth, thoroughly resisting the urge to tell the girl off. Once she had calmed down enough, Zhen would hold her arms beneath her chest, the only visible sign she was still displeased at the accusation towards her leader the scrutinizing look in her eyes, though it was very subtle.
"He didn't try anything. I was the one that tended to your wounds, and while I was examining your shoulder and chest, he was waiting downstairs. You will suffer some major bruising, but aside from that, there was no major internal injuries or bleeding. My recommendation, get plenty of rest and take it easy."
Her diagnosis done, Zhen would turn on her heel and start to head out of Kazuya's bedroom, only to stop as she opened the sliding door, pausing just before the door frame. Turning her head slightly to look behind her at Melanie, she would coolly regard the red-haired girl.
"He was worried about you. He kept asking for regular updates on your examination. So if you believe he is that type of guy... You have it all wrong."
Zhen would then leave, closing the sliding door shut behind her.

Melanie barely noticed Kazuya's face change into one of surprise. Her head was spinning too much. She hated being like this. She hated being weak and unable to do things, to protect herself... To be forced to trust people. Didn't matter if she liked him or not.
She opened her eyes and looked at the woman who answered her. 'He didn't do anything.' Wow. Seemed he is one of the only nice guys. Melanie looked over his face before looking back to the woman whose face was drawn in a frown. What was her problem? Whatever, her head was still spinning, Melanie didn't care. Melanie smiled as she had suggested for her to take it easy. Right, with her shop, she was supposed to take it easy? Ha! She still worked alone except for the occasional times when Aaron Hollows came in.
'He was worried about you. He kept asking for regular updates on your examination. So if you believe he is that type of guy... You have it all wrong' Melanie opened her eyes and looked after the woman as she closed the door. Really? Her gaze fell back on Kazuya. "Really? You were worried? Why? I mean I can take care of myself." Melanie blushed and wrapped her arms around her knees as she said the last sentence. "Plus, no one cares about me. No dad, and mom was a prostitute. I left my fosters when I was twelve... With Nathaniel." Her cheeks paled and she stared at the futon mattress. "And now he is gone too... Like I said, No one cares about me anymore. I am alone" Melanie put her chin on her knees, closed her eyes, and let out a deep shaky breath. "I failed him." She whispered as a tear fell down her cheek.

"Of course I was worried, why wouldn't I be? You're tough, tougher than expected, and there's no doubt you are independent. But if I can help, even a little, I will. ... Melanie."
If Melanie looked up, she would see Kazuya crouching down beside the futon, making sure to maintain a respectable distance from her. His arms resting on top of his knees, he would slowly reach out and gently wipe her tears away with his hand, a look of concern visible... but also a subtle hint of fondness in his eyes, as a small smile would form on his face. Pulling his hand away slowly, he would let it drop back on top of his knee, as he would make eye contact with her.
"You're not alone. You have someone who cares about you... Me. You didn't fail him. You're strong, stronger than you think. You're independent, an amazing girl, and capable of fighting back and defending yourself in your own right. You managed to cut me pretty good. You're anything but a failure, and I will never see you as anyone but an amazing and strong girl."

His words were a comfort to her as he tried to build her back up. There was something in his voice that made her look up. She tried to read his face for a hint why he cared. What was it that made him want to help her? Because he hit her? Big deal. Lots of guys hit her, none of them cared though. What made her so special to him?
She closed her eyes as his hand wiped away her tear. She didn't want him to stop. Something about his smile invigorated her own. Melanie couldn't help herself, the smile that spread across her face was genuine.
'You have someone who cares about you... Me.'"You... You care about me?" Melanie's orange eyes filled with tears again. Happy this time, she didn't know what to do. All his words... Everything was too much for her to sit there and listen to. The emotions were just... Melanie's tears spilled over the sides of her eyes as her arms shot out around Kazuya's waist. Her head nuzzled into his chest as her sobs shook her body. Melanie didn't care about the pain shooting through her chest, she just wanted to be closer to him.

"Of course I care about you. No matter what happens, I will be there to help you, if you ever so need it. All you need to do is ask."
Caught slightly off-guard as Melanie's arms shot out and wrapped around his waist, he would be sent rocking back slightly, but quickly managed to recover his balance. Shifting so that he would be crouching on the futon itself, instead of to the side, so Melanie would not strain turning her body to the side, he would wrap his arms around her, holding her close to him. Feeling her tears fall against his skin, her face nuzzled against his chest, he would rub her back comfortingly with one hand, the sobs that wracked her body shaking him slightly. Why did he care so much about her? He just did. That was his reason. He had no ulterior motive behind caring for her, he just wanted to help and be there for her if he could. He would hold and stay with her for as long as she wanted and needed, and only leave when she would tell him to.
"You're not alone Melanie. Not any more."

Melanie's heart was flooded with emotions as he held her and spoke soothing words to her. All she could do was hold on and hope her eyes would dry up soon. It had been years since someone else cared about her. Years since she had someone else tell her it was going to be OK. Years since she was able to let someone in. Only time would tell if she made a wise decision.
As his hands stroked her back and leaned her back towards the futon taking tension off her chest, Melanie felt something new but familiar at the same time. An emotion she had felt earlier, returning. A fondness for this man, this gentle soul that offered her support in one of her many times of suffering while hating herself for not being able to hurt Leon the way he had hurt her.
Finally, Melanie was able to pull her face away almost painfully from his chest. She looked up into his eyes, her face still stained with tears. "I'm sorry." She leaned back, blushing and pulling out of his arms. "You must think I am a cry baby. I just... It's been a while since I have been able to trust someone.
My first week in New York, RIOT thugs tried to rape me. If it wasn't for Shugo Yuy, I would have been. Then, I got jumped in the Girl's Locker Room." She shook her head and closed her eyes. Opening them, she looked at the mattress again. "I came to New York because of Leon Sudeki. I know you don't want to get involved, but please, i just need to get this out. Several years ago, Leon killed my brother because he thought my brother killed his sister. My brother would have done no such thing. He couldn't have. Nathan never liked hurting people unless they needed it or just wanted to fight. Even then, he would never intentionally try to hurt them.
"After he killed my brother, I swore I would get vengeance. A few weeks ago, Aaron Hollows made me see that killing Leon was not in my best interest. If i killed him, then what? I'd be no better than him, but i couldn't really walk away either. I'd never really heal right.
"I told my self if i hit him just once and was able to walk away, i'd be fine. It'd be over and i would be able to get on with my life. I went to the Hyperion meeting to be able to have someone to train under. Using the guise that i needed to get stronger for the gang, i would soon be able to challenge Leon and my vendetta would be over. But then i heard his voice and i couldn't stop myself. My blood boiled and i had to take a stand then. But i was stopped by his followers.
"I know it was a bad decision to try to take him on at the meeting, but put yourself in my shoes. Could you have stopped yourself if you had been hunting him for two and a half years?"

"Don't apologize. I don't think you're a crybaby. I think there's a certain strength to be had... to be able to cry when you should."
Staring down into Melanie's eyes, his gun metal gray eyes looking straight into her sunset orange eyes, he would reach up with one hand and gently wipe away the tears that stained her face after she had leaned back and pulled out of his arms. Slowly lowering his hand back down to rest on his knee unless she kept his hand on her face, he would stay silent and just listen as she spoke. Spoke about what happened when she first arrived in New York City, why she wanted to get revenge on Leon Sudeki so badly, how one of the Hollows siblings managed to dissuade her from killing Leon, why she wanted to land just one hit on Leon. She spoke and spoke and spoke, and Kazuya was more than willing to listen. Slowly reaching up, he would gently take hold of her chin, and slowly lifted her head up, a small, gentle smile on his face as he locked eyes with her.
"The pain never fully goes away. Two years is a long period of time to hunt after someone. It's all you really know, all that really drives you in life. But it doesn't have to be just that now. I cannot fully understand the pain you went through, the suffering you endured all these years. But I understand a little now. ... It doesn't change anything though. I meant what I said. I will always help you, if you need it. If you still wish to join a faction, there is Apex or Hyperion. I am part of Hyperion, but ultimately it is your decision which faction you join. I will however, support and be there for you as much as I can."

Melanie was surprised. Crying is a strength? That was a new one. She raised her hand to cover his as it was on her face and leaned her head to gently rest on it. Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath in. Melanie dropped her hand back into her lap as his hand moved to her chin. She locked eyes with him again, his eyes a crisp metallic gray. Praying to whoever was listening, he would place a gentle, or not so gentle, kiss on her waiting lips
He spoke to her like he knew exactly where she was coming from, like he had been there too. He sounded like he knew the pain and the anguish of losing someone. As well as the infuriating need to kill the one responsible. But then he started to talk about there being more. She could have more than revenge and betrayal in her life. Apex and Hyperion. She didn't know what Hyperion was about but Aaron had told her he would have gone for Them if he hadn't been with LG. She guessed she would have to give them another chance. Maybe she could really see if she liked them when she wasn't filled with rage over them being allies with Leon Sudeki and the rest of LG.
He had left the decision to her. Naturally, she was glad he offered his support whenever she needed it. And whatever she decided, he was OK with. He had almost promised to be by her side. Almost. "I don't know Apex, but Aaron suggested Hyperion to me. I'd like another chance to see them without rage clouding my vision and anger fogging my judgement." Melanie's eyes remained locked to his.

Melanie's hand on top of his, as Kazuya felt her lean her head to rest gently against it, she would feel his hand was warm to the touch, almost soothing, as he would see her close her eyes and take a deep breath. Shifting his hand to her chin and lifting her head up, as he stared into her eyes, though he had lost someone before, his mother, the pain he felt was not to the degree Melanie had felt. But his sister did. She had lost him, as he had died once before, but the infuriating need to kill the one responsible had already been fulfilled by Matrim, when he had killed Marquise, the vampire responsible for his death.
Continuing to maintain eye contact with her, he would give her a small smile. No matter which faction she chose, he would've support her choice, but it made him slightly happy she chose the faction he was part of, Hyperion. Though he would not be around at Helios as much, since he was Hyperion's representative in the Lightning Gang, he would try and spend as much time training and just with her in general as he could. As he looked into her eyes, he would then slowly lean in down towards her, before placing a gentle kiss on her lips, his face close to hers as he pulled away slightly.
"You just caught us on a bad day. Hyperion is not normally all talk of alliances and the blaming others. We are a family... and I will always be by your side. No matter who or how many I have to fight through to get to you."

Melanie slowly exhaled as his face came down to meet hers. When his lips met with hers, her breath caught in her chest. Her heart fluttered rapidly, as if it were jumping for joy. She didn't want the kiss to end. It washed emotions over her like waves in the ocean. Passion raged through her chest, shooting through to her arms and fingers making them want to reach out and touch him. Before she got a chance to lift her arms and entangle her fingers in his hair, he pulled away breaking the kiss off short.
As he pulled away and spoke to her, she could feel the tingle of his breath hitting her face, making her want his kiss again. Melanie tried to listen to what he was saying instead of just breathing in his alluring scent. 'I will always be by your side. No matter who or how many I have to fight through to get to you.' Melanie was out of breath again. He would fight... for her? But he barely knew her. "You would... You would fight... for me? Why? You have only just met me. You don't know me." Her eyes began tearing up again but Melanie blinked them away, resting her forehead against his chin. "This is just... Unreal."

"Just because I just met you and don't know you very well, doesn't mean I can't fight for you. If you do decide to join Hyperion, I'll be able to see you whenever I want and able to. It's not a dream Melanie, it's very much real."
Wrapping his arms around Melanie, pulling her closer to him, she would feel his body was warm to the touch, due to a passive effect of his Qi, which made it seem like he had a mild fever, when in fact, he was perfectly healthy. It kept him warm on those chilly winter days and nights, so it wasn't all that bad. Shifting his body so he was sitting cross-legged now, instead of crouching, he would keep his arms wrapped around her, holding her in his embrace.
"You should probably rest Melanie. I won't be far, this is my bedroom after all. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."

He had only half answered Melanie's question. But he had said he wanted to fight for her. She was going to ask why again but phrase it differently when Kazuya pulled her closer to him. "I think I do want to join. If not only to be closer to you, I want to help. It's what Nathaniel would have wanted for me. To live my life and not hold myself back out of fear or anger." Melanie was now more talking to herself than to Kazuya, but it still felt better to say things out loud than in her head. She had been quiet for so long. Finally she could talk, and there would always be someone to listen.
As Kazuya wrapped his arms around her, Melanie in turn shifted her body so she was half laying across his lap. Now she could werap her arms around him too. Her thoughts adjusted violently when Kazuya said he was going to let her sleep. Even if it was his house, Melanie didn't want to be alone. Even if nothing were to happen, after all he had just helped her through, she didn't want him to leave. Ever. "Won't you stay? I know i am safe here, but i don't want to be alone." Melanie felt her cheeks flush and she pressed her face into his chest again, his scent engulfing her ineuphoria again.
Whether or not he decided to stay, she would ask either to his chest or sitting up if he were to try to leave, "What is going to happen now?" Her tone was flat as she thought about the Apostles and the war she had just volunteered for. Had she just signed her own death cirtificate? "What happens if we... die?" She would look up into his eyes with worry brimming the top. Was she willing to lose him just after finding him?

Giving Melanie a small bow of his head, Kazuya would remain silent, as she seemed to be saying it more to herself than to him, and would simply listen to what she had to say. She had started to move on, but the journey would be long and wrought with hardships. But she wouldn't have to face it alone. Kazuya would be there, by her side. Maybe not every step of the way, but as much as he possibly could. His arms wrapped snugly around Melanie's waist as she half laid across his lap and wrapped her arms around him, he would glance down at her, studying her face as she blushed before burying her face into his chest, a slightly resigned smile appearing on his face.
"Alright, alright... I'll stay. My futon is decently sized, but space might still be a bit tight."
The smile wiped instantly from his face, a grim, uncertain look would form upon his face. He didn't know what would happen now. With the wall up and the Apostles in control, all of their lives hung in the balance of uncertainty. There was no telling what could happen in the next hour, much less the next day. But there was one thing Kazuya knew for certain. He would fight for his friends and his faction, no matter the cost. His eyes meeting Melanie's, he could see the worry brimming in her eyes, and slowly reaching up with one hand, would gently rest his hand against her cheek comfortingly.
"I won't let you die, no matter what. Even if it costs me my own life. I would sacrifice my life, to save yours. But I will do everything in my power and strength, to make sure I don't die... so I can come back to you."

Melanie's eyes were locked to Kazuya's as he studied her face. Her look one of serenity and... was that love? Too soon to know, but maybe. Melanie smiled to his chest as he decided to stay. Her hair falling over her face as she snuggled into his embrace. This just felt right. It seemed he felt the same. If he didn't Melanie didn't want to know. She just needed him to stay right now. If he wanted to leave later... She just needed him now.
His words bounced around her head for a few moments as she let them soak in. He would die for her. Not just fight, die. He didn't want to leave her, but if it meant she would live, he would do it. Melaniehugged him tight. "I don't want you to die either. I only just found you." Her eyes would meet his again, this time they were filled with determination. "I don't want to be a liability. Teach me to fight better. If we have to fight, let's fight together. I would die by your side before i die hiding behind you. I refuse to be the person I used to be. It cost me someone before. I will not let it happen again." Melanie would hold his gaze. There was no way he could convunce her otherwise. She had made up her mind and that was all there was to it.
