There was no order anymore, only anarchy. There was no peace, only chaos. There was no life, only death. The walls erected around this portion of the city had doomed everyone within to a life of hell, destined to wither away and die, whether it was naturally through starvation once food ran out, or to meet a bloody end by pissing off the wrong people.
Despite how dangerous it could be, Valo found himself wandering the streets more often than not. Generally, there didn't seem to be many people outside, as it was too risky. Every day since being trapped within here, he'd find himself walking. He wasn't sure if it was because he had lost hope, or if he was looking for a new hope to believe in, but it had become routine for him at this point.
He wore a black coat, tattered and torn in many places from recent scuffles, and had a sword sheathed in a holster on the left side of his waist. Not something he'd carry back during more normal times, people with weapons seemed to be a common sight these days.
Tired eyes stared out from black bangs as he walked out in the middle of the street, taking a look around at the buildings around him. Many were destroyed and broken into, but there were subtle signs that some people were making them their homes or hideouts, whether temporary or permanent depended on how safe they were.
All he could see was empty streets for now, and he would sigh as he continued to make his way down the road. He hoped he would come across something, but he was also hoping it wouldn't be a fight for once.

Jenesis was pissed.
These walls separated her from her only family member and every time the thought of not seeing papa again crossed her mind, a part of her soul was chipped away. What hope was there? She's heard and witnessed too many people attempt to break or climb over the wall only to have their lives taken away from them. With every day that passed, people were getting antsy and more unpredictable; survival of the fittest was ever so true in this case and Jenesis... It's a miracle that she's still around, considering her method of fighting is just to run away.
So with that said, it probably wasn't a good idea for her to be wandering around, but it's just what Jenesis did. She liked going out for walks and she couldn't stand the idea of being cooped up at home without dad for too long. So she walked- went out for strolls at least once a day, avoiding danger like a plague. Thankfully, papa was an overprotective parent and so their home had the highest of securities (but the details completely eluded her), so she felt safe when asleep...plus he would always pack various things in her bag as a precaution- a 'just in case'. So she took two with them on her walk- pepper spray and a taser (OOC: If this isn't allowed, I'll edit).
"AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.."
Jenesis' attention snapped in the direction of the scream. Very close by. Normally she would have booked it upon hearing it but something kept her in place...and within seconds, she was running towards the source. What was she doing? Her arms were covered in goosebumps under her sweater and the hairs on her neck were up. What could she possibly do?
She grabbed a brick that was just laying there and turned the corner. There, she saw four men ganging up on two very small girls. Couldn't have been older than 10 and Jen just felt sick to her stomach.
"HEY!!! Pick on someone else!"
And she chucked the brick at them, simultaneously yelling at the two girls to...
"RUN!!!"

Adrian snapped back to reality when he heard a scream pierce the silence. Stopping in his tracks, his eyes widened upon hearing it, and he began to look around, trying to figure out where it was coming from.
It's not too far away...
He was hesitant, having lost a friend right in front of his eyes just recently, but he tried to force the thought out as he ran towards the source of the screaming. He would pass by a couple buildings before turning into an alleyway, running down it and making sure to avoid any obstacles in his way. He would stop when he saw what he assumed was the cause of the commotion. Four men harassing two young girls. It made him sick to his stomach.
Before he could run at the group, he saw something fly out of the corner of his eye, a brick smacking one of the guys in the head. Turning towards the direction it came from, he saw a girl standing there, yelling for the other two girls to run. He wasn't sure if this girl was brave or a fool, but the two usually went hand in hand.
Observing what was around him, Valo quickly grabbed a trash can lid off of the ground and frisbee'd it towards the men, aiming to hit one of the guys in the face with it. The least he could do was back this chick up.

The young girls were stunned for a brief second before moving their little butts out of there. Unfortunately for Jenesis, that meant the remaining eyes were on her, glaring- it made her so uncomfortable because their stare wasn't just a menacing stare, but one of...hunger...? She shuddered. But now what? One guy was clearly knocked out from the brick and Jenesis was like 50% sure that she just killed a man, but the other three--?!!!
WHAM!
WHAT WAS THAT!?
Jenesis' eyes darted and saw a figure not too far off- relief washed over her that at least there was someone else, but at the same time, panic. This other guy may be able to take on one of the guys, but Jenesis is a CHICKEN. IN THE FACE OF DANGER, SHE RUNS. But JEEZ, how hard did the guy throw the freaking TRASH CAN LID to knock a guy out!?!?
Jenesis took out her taser and gripped the little thing like papa had taught her. She never thought she'd actually be using this thing but here we are... The two remaining guys, rather than turning to face the trash can perpetrator, started booking it to where Jenesis was. And in that moment, the petite girl ALSO RAN FORWARD, concealing the taser in her small little hand the best that she could. She was not trained too extensively in fighting, but she hailed from 259 and had some background in self-defense. Offensive maneuvers she was a COMPLETE NOOB IN but---
WHOOOOSHHHHH.
They clearly saw her taser and Jenesis clearly used that to her advantage by swinging her arm back and forth like a madwoman. She ran right past them (they literally cleared the way) and towards the figure----
"RUN! RUN!!!"
You know, doing what she does best. (Even though she may not be very fast...)

Valo's brow rose as he watched the girl, swinging around a taser like out of a comedy. It would've been pretty adorable, if not for the fact that she was in danger right now. He began to move forward to help her, but he stopped in his tracks when he realized she had missed the two men coming at her completely, but since Valo was skidding to a stop, she was now set on course to collide with--
"W-wait!"
ZAP!
The taser would hit him, and unless she moved, the two would collide into one another and end up on the floor in a comical heap. If she fell with him, he'd still do his best to cushion her fall by catching her in his arms.
Luckily, the taser wouldn't do too much. It stung quite a bit, and it made his hair stand up some and left a tingly feeling in his body, and he felt kind of funny overall... but he was alright and more well put together than most people. That is, he would be okay as long as she didn't keep swinging the taser around now that they were on the ground.
"Man, that smarts..." He groaned, looking up at the woman before looking at the two men. He quickly pulled out his sword and pointed it at them from the ground, lightning surrounded the blade visibly.
"Stay back! This is your only warning." He said, hoping to scare them off. If not, well... he'd have to cut a bitch.

"W-wait!" "WHATAREYOUDOING-"
WHOOMPH!
Jenesis collided right into the boy and...accidentally tased him. She was completely unscathed, not even a cut because he had softened her fall. If this were any normal circumstance, she would've been blushing like crazy because that's just an awkward and embarrassing position to be in, you know? But their very lives were in danger, and Jenesis was more concerned about staying alive than being embarrassed. For both of their benefits, she indeed stopped swinging and flailing, her thumb now off the button to electrocute whatever comes in contact with the metal.
She was about to move off of him until she heard the distinct sound of a sword being unsheathed, and she froze. This guy had a sword. And if her ears were hearing correctly, the sound of electricity was also present, but Jenesis' taser was off...
WAS SHE ALLOWED TO MOVE? What if she moved back and she just sliced herself in half!?!
But also, HE HAS A SWORD.
The two men paused when they saw the sword and lightning around it, and using their better judgement, slowly backed away. Of course Jenesis had no idea of this and she was just...literally...frozen. Terrified to pieces of what was going to unfold next.
Even though they were backing away (and she had no idea), she whispered...
"Are...are you going to kill them..."

Yes, he had a sword. Luckily for her, he was apt enough with the weapon to not accidentally cut her in half (though if she flailed into it, that was a different story).
He kept his eyes trained on the men, his sword not lowering for a moment. It would be easy for him to end them, and yet, he was stopping himself. On an ordinary day, he might've done it without a second thought, but right now?
"... No. As long as they don't try to hurt you."
The girl looked like she was one of the unfortunate people to be trapped within the walls who were truly innocent, and he didn't want to spill blood right in front of her. It wasn't something she had to see, so these men would be let off lucky, if they were wise enough.
As far as he knew, not many people were willing to charge at a sword that had electricity surrounding it. If these guys did it, they'd be the first. It was his own little taser, and hopefully, it'd help end things on a smoother note.

Innocent within the walls? Oh yes. Definitely. Even while attending school, after her first week, she kept the lowest of low profiles- she did all of her work and turned it in on time, received excellent marks, helped out at the after school tutoring program... The works. Why? To make papa proud- to get into a good college and get a good degree and make enough money to support her papa after he retired. But now...
Jenesis had seen her fair amount of blood- she still abhorred the sight of it, which is why she was still very tense. She slowly moved off to the side - opposite of his sword - careful not to knee the guy in the event of moving and plopped onto the ground next to him. By the time she was next to him, the perpetrators were picking up their wounded and carrying them off, glancing back at them every so often. But it wasn't at them where her eyes were fixated...
It was on his sword.
"...I didn't know they made sword tasers..."
Oof. x_o Was that really necessary, Jen?
She turned her gaze back at the men who were getting smaller and smaller, and sighed. Although glad that no blood was shed, Jenesis couldn't help but wonder if they would be back on the prowl the next day, looking for similar targets as the two young girls. She shuddered at the thought before turning to look at the boy beside her...who looked vaguely familiar...
"Thank you."
There was sincerity in her voice and it showed on her face. She probably would have been raped and then killed if he hadn't shown up with how things have been going ever since the walls were built.
"And... I'm...sorry for tasing you..."
She felt bad. But also relieved and thankful. She wasn't used to the adrenaline rush, so even though the problem was mitigated, her heart was thundering against her chest. What fear does to a person...

Sword taser.
She actually said it out loud.
And thinking about it, he kind of regretted not naming it that.
"It's homemade."
He would say in response to that, although that was only half true. He would've cracked a smile at her comment if it weren't for the serious and tense atmosphere, but he was soon relieved as the men turned and walked away, their less fortunate comrades in tow. He was glad that it didn't come to actual bloodshed.
Sighing in relief, Valo would sheathe his sword, the lightning surrounding it dissipating as if it were never there. From there, he leaned back, keeping himself propped up on his hands as he tilted his head back.
"You're welcome. I'm just glad it didn't turn ugly."
Uglier, anyway. He would turn to look at the girl, seeing her face and pausing in place for a few seconds. She looked familiar to him as well... a girl he had seen only once before, quite a while back, and then never seen or heard from her again. He was convinced the school had eaten her up, but she was still alive and in one piece.
He wasn't sure if she could remember him from that brief meeting, and it didn't help that he looked a bit different with the darker hair and darker demeanor overall, so he saw it fit to introduce himself again anyway.
"The name's Adrian... and don't worry about the taser, I've been through worse. I'm just glad you're alright."
It was nice, being able to actually help someone for the first time in a while. Seeing someone who was brighter than everyone else around the district brought his spirits up a bit, it made him feel like this place wasn't entirely dreary.

"I'm Jenesis."
Jeez, a homemade sword? Where can she get one of those? (Sike. She'd probably end up dicing herself, somehow.) But man, he's been through more than being tased...? That...sucks, but it wasn't surprising. A lot of people at her old school had random unfortunate things happen to them as well. Some lost an eye, others - like herself - were used as scientific experiments, others died... She wondered if papa knew he was enrolling her at a school so similar to 259 when they moved to the east coast.
"...VALO! That's who you remind me of!"
She blurted out, suddenly remembering. Valo was such a unique name that it wasn't hard to remember- but yeah! Whew, that was starting to bother her, you know, when you know something but don't know-know it...
She let out a sigh, her tense shoulders finally relaxing. Her head tilted back and she looked up at the polluted sky, at the few and feint speckles of white.
"Wow. I almost died today."
She breathed out. (She didn't say 'we' because she was pretty sure if he had been alone in this situation, he would've gotten out just fine.) Incredible. Not that she cheated death, but she survived today when, if Adrian hadn't been there, she would've definitely met her end. She felt incredibly thankful to be alive- something she hadn't felt in a long time. But now begged the question- she should probably head home, and she was pretty sure she could get back on her own. But she wasn't so sure if she wanted to risk running into the same guys - or even different ones - even though this was the first time in a long time she ran into trouble (HEH quite literally ran into it).
"Hey Adrian, I'm really sorry to ask you of this, but do you think you can walk me home?"
She really didn't want to be a burden, but at the same time, she really didn't want to be alone.

"So you do remember me."
Valo grinned slightly at her sudden outburst (also amused at her still calling him Adrian despite remembering the name he gave her in their prior meeting). She was quite unusual, at least for someone who was inside of the walls, and she seemed rather peppy for someone who had could've been hurt if no one else was around to help her. But as fate would have it, she was destined to live at least another day. He hoped her positivity could survive the district.
"Well, Jenesis," her name was unique to him too, although he didn't know it was spelled with a J, "You're alive, and that's all that matters today."
It sort of felt like deja vu, although at least the first time they met was in much better circumstances comparatively. It had been such a long time ago, and it was awfully brief, so in a way, it felt like they were meeting for the first time all over again.
"Walk you home?"
If he was going to be honest, he was already considering offering her that exact thing, but she beat him to the punch. Just because the men ran off earlier didn't mean they weren't waiting to try and get the jump on her later or something, and if he just up and left on her, not knowing whether she was safe or not would nag at the back of his mind. People were dying around him left and right, and he wanted to be able to help someone out when they needed it.
Wordlessly, he stood up to his feet, dusting himself off from their earlier collision. He looked at Jenesis, giving her a friendly smile as he held his hand out for her to take, to help her off of the floor.
"Well, I don't have anywhere else to be, so let's make sure you get home safely."

Ooooh! So they are the same person! Heh- he's certainly changed in the...half a year she hadn't seen him. But that would make sense, given everything that had happened and his ties to the 'terrorist group'... But with everything that happened, she didn't know what to believe and frankly, didn't believe in much besides what papa would tell her. And then then, she wasn't even sure where her dad was- outside the walls? Somewhere in it? In the end, she resolved not to worry because her papa always found a way to her. History has proven it 100%- she hopes that percentage won't go down.
So it is safe to say that, yes, Jenesis was aware with who she was walking with, and that- yes- some at the school blamed Valo and his gang for the happenings...but not her. There were a lot of people to blame- the general public, the government officials... And she thought it was a little ridiculous the degree of punishment the city was receiving. Jenesis could've considered herself innocent, but she didn't. But those that weren't even within the school, those with children whose innocence was preemptively shattered.
That really pissed her off.
"Thank you. I live fifteen minutes in that direction, I think. Or that way. Or...uh, wait- um... Hold on-"
She pointd one way...then another way. Jenesis, since before time, has always been directionally challenged. And honestly, that's probably why she managed to avoid so much trouble because she had the same routine everyday. Everyday was the same path- fight going on in one of the halls? She had two other back-up routes to her classes. But, uh... Jenesis had certain landmarks that would help guide her home. Annnnnnnnnd...
"Bingo! The CITCO sign! Fifteen minutes. You don't live too far, do you?"
As for calling him Adrian, she just thought that might be better with the name 'Valo' being so connected to the gang. In hindsight, she probably shouldn't have yelled that out because it could have attracted more attention.
"How have you been since May?"
That was the last time she saw him. To be honest, it was a loaded question, especially for him.

Had it really been that long since he last saw her? May felt like an eternity ago, when in reality it hadn't even been a year. While she was trying to figure out where she lived, he was lost in thought, wondering about how so much could change in such a short time. He felt like he had seen enough battle for a lifetime, felt like it aged him far beyond his years, that it changed him into something he wasn't. What he wouldn't give to be the person he was back in May, to be able to have the hindsight to get out of the city before it went to hell.
But everything happens for a reason. Maybe he was supposed to be here.
He wasn't sure how to answer her question. He had witnessed fights where things got so extreme, you couldn't exactly explain them to anyone without it sounding unbelievable. He had fought people who could teleport through mirrors, or turn their bodies into that of snakes. He had seen creatures straight out of a horror movie, and had literally even died and been reanimated temporarily into one of those same creatures before being brought back to life, his own dad making the decision to do that to him. All in the months since they had last seen each other.
How do you explain any of that?
"I don't live too much further out than you do... at least where I'm currently staying." He'd respond to her first question, the old Yuy Corp building that he had taken over wasn't too far from the CITCO sign that she had pointed out. It was a lot closer than his actual house, and it sounded like taking her home would be on the way.
He wasn't sure if he wanted to go home yet though.
"As for how I've been... if I could sum it up, I've been surviving."
A vague, yet broad statement.
"A lot has been happening, and I'm just trying to make it to better days. Wall sure doesn't help, but I'm sure it won't be up forever." He tried to sound optimistic, but he wasn't sure how much hope he had left at this point.
"What about you? I hope you're doing well for yourself."

Jenesis' home was in a safe neighborhood. Or at least, it was- she didn't think any place was safe now, given the fact that everywhere was prone to danger within the walls. And..he gave a very good answer. Surviving- it's what a good majority of people were doing within these walls. They lived in a world where it was complete anarchy with no rules except one: don't try to leave, otherwise you'll die. But life in the walls wasn't guaranteed either.
"It's lonely."
She was gonna be honest because he was the first friendly face she saw in a long, long time. Because of her keeping a low profile, she didn't make too many friends, if any. And the one person she was dependent on was MIA. She knew whatever reason he had for not being at home was a good, important reason...and even though she resolved that they would see each other again, there was that teeny, tiny part of her that wondered- what if they don't? What if he's outside the wall and can't come in...?
"I miss my dad. I think he's outside the wall."
A small, forced smile. Fifteen was too young to be going through life alone, especially in such a formidable environment.
"But otherwise, I've been okay. I've been living a quiet life..for the most part."
Not out of choice, though. Her life was quiet because she didn't know how to fight. She didn't want to put herself in dangerous situations- she knew there were people like Adrian that would come to the aid of those in need, but she didn't want to be a burden. So she just walked around while the sun was still out, avoiding fights like a plague (except this one time), and stayed at home.
She wasn't going to admit it, but an empty home was the loneliest thing of all.
"Do you go on walks often?"

Lonely...
She had that right. Even if one contacted the outside world, there was nothing that could be done about what was happening inside the walls. Evidence of what truly transpired within would have to leak out and gather enough of a foothold for people to cry out against the outrage. Or maybe it'd only be the ones who were trapped who would be crying out for help to no avail.
There hadn't been any time to just sit around casually and talk to people. Everything was a fight for survival now. One person who you mistook for a harmless innocent could turn and backstab you if it meant they could get their night's meal out of it. Long gone were the days of being around friends and family, long gone were being able to find comfort with someone who was waiting for you at home.
There was nothing waiting.
"So you got separated from him? I'm sorry... at least he's safe. Someday all of this will pass, and you two will be together again."
It will happen...
He wanted to be so sure about that. He wanted people to have their happy reunions with those they cared about and loved. For a long time, it was something he was willing to stake his life on. But recent events told him that even his life wasn't nearly a good enough cost for freedom. He'd be nothing more than a martyr. No, he had more use alive. Even if he has to get his hands dirty and bathe in blood, he would do what was necessary so people like Jenesis could live on happily.
"These days, I find myself walking every day. I don't know why, because I know it can be dangerous, but maybe..." He paused for a moment. "Maybe I'm just looking for something. A sign. Some hope. A reason to keep going."
He never thought he'd be living in a dog-eat-dog world. He was hoping that after the last major battle, peace would finally arrive. But it grew exponentially into something far worse. And now even the innocent were forced into it. After fighting so hard, life only fought back harder. It wasn't the kind of life he would wish on anyone, let alone someone who was too afraid to fight back.
"What about you?"
