"You really did grow up here, huh? I thought you were screwin' with me."
Austin had watched as the show began, listening to Mireli as she spoke. He didn't exactly care about the back story, but it didn't bother him to hear it. It wasn't like they were in a movie theater. When the elephants came out, Austin normally would been throwing handfuls of peanuts at them, though. It was a good thing he had not gotten any.
After the elephants came and went, the acrobats came out for their portion. Knuckles wouldn't admit, but maybe he was just a tiny bit excited for this part. He was bound to see some high flying tricks. Maybe he would even get to see someone fall. As he watched, he would speak after she told him about them.
"Must have been different, growing up here around all this.. I mean, I grew up in the streets with a bunch of bikers, So I guess I know what it's like to be an outcast.."

"Well, I grew with this group, not just here." She wasn't sure why she was sharing all this information with the boy who dumped a soda on her head, but he seemed friendly enough and it wasn't like she was giving out all their secrets. "We settled here last spring, though with all the paperwork I wasn't registered for school until now." She didn't mention that they'd had to register as actual people first, having previously been off the map. 'Roma' wasn't a real last name for Miri, she never used it, but it was required for all the paperwork. "The owner wants all the kids to go to school, he didn't want truancy officers pacing his boardwalk."
She shrugged, as if she didn't have an opinion either way. Home schooling was nice, and the transition was hard, but it was a new opportunity, so she would go with the flow.
Down below, the act was just starting. They started with some ground work, tumbling and jumping across the ring. The boy cupped his hands, the girl stepped into the small platform his hands made and he launched her upward. She flipped and turned through the air before landing in her parents' arms in a basket catch. The crowd cheered, tossed peanuts and waved little flags and other things. Someone whistled.
They made their way up the poles to the trapeze, the best part of the act. The net was raised at the bottom to ensure if anyone fell that there would be no causalities. The four of them moved smoothly between the trapeze, swinging and jumping (maybe Ill find a video later when Im not at work). "When Paulie performs with them, they will throw him from one person to the next, he's so little." She informed Austin, watching the show. She wished she'd had the foresight to grab a candy apple or something before climbing up here.
Once the act was done, she nudged him. "Let's go." She slipped down between the bars of the scaffolding, looking at first like she had fallen, but she swung beneath him back to the ladder and climbed back down. She wasn't nearly as talented as the acrobats, but she was skilled in climbing about on the scaffolding from years of practice.
Once they reached the ground she beckoned to him once more with a wave of her hand, heading back out of the tent.

Austin listened, but he disn't reply. It wasn't that he was ignoring her, he was just distracted by the scene playing out below. He had never really had an interest in this kind of thing, but it was a little entertaining to watch, he guessed.
He couldn't help but wonder how the girl landed in with a group like this. But at least she had something to call 'family' herself. It probably wasn't perfect. His wasn't either. Most of the people he grew up with were nothing but bad influences. But family was family, didn't matter if there was a blood relationship or not.
"Pretty cool.. I don't think my ass would ever get up there to do that."
Eventually the acrobats would finish up and he was sure something else would be coming. Knuckles heard her speak though, saying she wanted to leave. He woukd shrug and watch as she- fell?! Nope. The girl had balls. Not litterally. She grabbed ahold of the scaffold and began to climb down as if she had done it a million timea before.
At the bottem she waved him down. He wouldn't stay up there to hang with himself. Working quickly, he would make his way down to the ground, those hazel hues settling upon Mireli as he touched down. Austin would begin to walk toward her and speak.
"That was interestin'.. Whatcha got planned next, Mir?"

"Have you been to the magic show?" She asked him as they ducked back down the back alleys of the carnival vendors. She stopped out back behind a kiosk that read POPCORN FRIED DOUGH CANDY APPLES COTTON CANDY, skipping up the stairs and disappearing inside without much warning. She...wasn't really good about announcing any of her actions as Austin might pick up on.
Less than a minute later she reappeared with a bag of cotton candy. She took off the twist tie, putting it in her pocket, reaching in to grab a handful of the blue fluffy candy before offering the bag to Austin.
