welcome
Welcome delinquents to PHS #552. A few reminders, no rough housing, no running in the hallways, no cheating, and no talking back to your teachers. Beyond that, enjoy yourselves. After all these are the years you’ll look back on, and remember, you mother fuckers peaked too early.

A brand new group is on the making, The Apostles, a Pillar-like group led by none other than our brand new headmaster, Gregoire Girard. A student body that would lead students and enforce the law on this little school of ours. Little is still known about this student body, but who knows? It might just be what the school needs.

A lunch box is seen last Friday, around 12:37:08pm with an encouraging note packed inside. This appalling display that utterly lacked manliness has left many students stunned and outrage, as some decided, after a long while, to speak out against it.

roleplaying and fighting RP Styles and Fights.
On #552 fights are often a part of roleplaying, however there are different sytles of roleplaying, and in fights these difference in styles can sometimes cause conflict. The main component of this strife, is that one of these styles known as 'Closed Ended Roleplaying' is often accused of being Good-Modding, or Puppeteering. (Please see here from explanation of these terms.) The following is a explanation of the two main styles of Roleplaying, as well as examples of how they might interact in a fight.
Closed Ended Roleplaying
This Roleplaying style is when the player describes the action of there character as if they happen. Not as if they are attempting them. This in a fight is not considered God-Modding or Puppeterring, even if the player writes that they hit you, you may always respond as if they are only attempting their action. You in no way have to treat their action as automatically hitting just because they have said so. (Exception - GMed event may have the GM hit you as part of the event, based on your action, dice rolls or other factors.) A player even if they are using this Roleplaying style are not considered God-Modding, unless they write doing something that is impossible, or puppeteering unless they describe your character in positions they were not in, or describe you making action that you did not do.
Open Ended Roleplaying
This Roleplaying style is the opposite of the first. It is when the player describes the actions of their character as if they are attempting it, rather then assuming they do. This style involve normally use of word like 'would try to' and other such phrases. Just because a player is describe themselves as trying to do something, rather then actually doing so, does not mean that you can assume failure. Always dodging or blocking, just because they said they 'Tried' not did. A player even if they are using this Roleplaying style is still considered God-Modding, even if they describe they would try a impossible action rather then doing it. (Exception - If the player says they try something impossible and then has them fail trying in the same post it is not God-Modding.) A player using this Roleplaying style is still considered puppeteering if they describe you trying something that you did not or describing you in position that you character was not in.
Combination Roleplaying
This is here for completion sake, a player may sometimes Roleplay with both styles. Saying their character attempted some action, while saying the did others unchallenged. Such as they would attempt to throw a punch in a fight, but simply say they charged towards their opponent before hand, without calling it a attempt. They follow the same rules of the RP style they are using for each part of the post.
Fight Example (Open vs Open)
Open 1 - Greg would take a step forward towards John and attempt to throw a right hook, so that it would hit John in the left hand side of his head. Open 2 - John would try and put his left arm in front of the blow, letting it hit in before bringing his own right arm up and attempting the same blow at Greg. Open 1 - Greg would feel the blow hit him in the side of the face, and tried to stagger away and bring his arms up to defend from any more attacks.
Fight Example (Closed vs Open)
Closed 1 - Greg took a step forward towards John, brought his right arm up and punched John in the face with a solid right hook. Open 2 - John would try and put his left arm in front of the blow, letting it hit in before bringing his own right arm up and attempting the same blow at Greg. Closed 1 - Greg felt the blow to the face, and staggered away bringing his arms up to defend from following attacks.
Fight Example (Closed vs Closed)
Closed 1 - Greg took a step forward towards John, brought his right arm up and punched John in the face with a solid right hook.
Closed 2 - John blocked the blow with his left arm and slammed his own right fist into the side of Greg's face in return. Closed 1 - Greg felt the blow to the face, and staggered away bringing his arms up to defend from following attacks.
If at any time you feel as someone post has move from the RP styles above and into God-Modding, please first speak to that player, if no agreement over it can be made, please contact a member of staff, or the 552 Support account, and a staff member will get back to you on if it is.

roleplay fighting tips This board is, of course, going to be fight-heavy. The following are some tips on how to provide a good fight not only for your opponent, but your readers, and yourself. I'll separate things into dos and donts, with some examples to follow.
Dos 1) Be specific - Vagueness, more often than not, causes a hard time for you and your opponent. Try to be specific, instead. EX. Good:Bad:2) Adhere to your stats - they're there for a reason. Everyone is at a different level with different abilities, and if you've got five in strength, don't try to go and rip stop signs out of the ground. EX. Good:Bad:3) Pick your battles - Many a time, newer players will challenge more seasoned players to a fight, and we have seen this end badly OoC more often than not. It's important to know you can't beat everyone, especially those with more experience and more capable characters. Try to stay in your stat level. EX. Good:Bad: 4) Be reasonable - This is a friendly environment, so there's no reason to fight everyone you see and break their legs while you're at it. That said, some characters are just inherently violent, so if you know they're going to break your legs in a fight, and you don't want that to happen, avoid the fight. EX. Good:Good:Bad:Bad: 5) Take the finer details into account - Height, weight, hair length, handicaps, etc. - these all have a huge bearing on a fight. Two characters of vastly different heights will /not/ have the same reach, for example. EX. Good:Bad: Don'ts 1) Fill your post with senseless narrative - A lot of times, people like to fill their fight posts with narrative that contributes nothing to the task at hand. Don't do this. Why, you ask? Because when you do, your actions get lost in the middle, and it's hard for people to understand what you're trying to do. That's not to say all narrative is bad, of course - we just don't want to know why you're thinking about those cookies your grandma used to make while you're getting punched in the face. EX. Good:Bad: 2) Assume - If you're unclear on something your opponent is attempting, ask them what they're trying to do. Assuming can put you in some awkward spots. Imagine you think your opponent is trying to put you in a triangle choke, but in reality they're punching your face. Bit of a difference in attack there, right? EX. Good:Bad: 3) Metagame - Sometimes, people like to automatically know when their opponent is throwing a feint, or when they have a hidden weapon on them, or something like that. Other times, people like to try and get out of bad situations by saying, later in the fight, that the punch they threw that got countered was actually a feint, or that they had a weapon on them because their opponent did not. This is so very, very, very bad. EX. Good:Bad:Bad: 4) Downplay your opponent - A lot of the time, people like to act like the smaller characters are weaker because of that one fact when, in the game, their stats are high and their RPer is skilled. This is a definite no-no, as not only are you powerplaying yourself and not adhering to your own stats, you're also making another member feel like they just wasted their time getting as strong as they did, and that sucks the fun right out of it. EX. Good:Bad: 5) Take a loss personally - Everyone loses fights. Everyone. Especially beginners. If you lose a fight to someone, don't take it personally, especially if they had an advantage in every stat. It's a game, and losses can further character development at the very least, so good can come out of them. EX. Good:Bad: 6) Flame your opponent - Sometimes, people do take losses personally, and like to call out their opponent publicly when that happens. It can be as little as saying one thing in the cbox, to outright flaming them OoC for all to see. DO NOT DO THIS. It's a game, we're all here to have a fun time. EX. Same as #5.

stats and items Stats and Items will be locked in the event of a fight starting, or a player joining any Event threads. Please make a note in the OOC with your stats at the time of your post when this happens.
For every event thread, character status (meaning stats and items) will be locked in the first post. ALL stats and items gained after the date of your first post in the event will not be applied to your character in the event thread, oftentimes, the GM will ask you to lock your stats. This includes, but is not limited to, rewards from: Vote Rewards, Speed Events, and gifts from other players. The gains are still usable in any other thread that you create or join once you acquire them.
Once a fight starts in a thread, character status will be locked for the duration of that thread. This is to prevent players from gaining stats and items in other threads or events and bringing them into the fight thread, effectively breaking continuity and the balance of the fight.
Stats in this case will be locked once the players attack each other. (i.e. Steven attacks Valo in his post, his stats lock. Valo attacks Steven, or defends himself, his stats lock.)
Note that we will be monitoring for any abuse of this system. If you get into a fight with a player, but suddenly stop posting there at all in an effort to gain stats and items elsewhere, you are liable to receive a warning.
If any concerns or questions arise, or if you see any sign of abuse of the system following these instated rules, please send a PM to any of the staff members or PHS #552 Support.
