"Oh yeah~? Got a lot of things on your mind, huh?" The brunette responded with a sideways glance before turning her attention back to where she was going. "It's good to take some time for yourself, and a walk...well, that helps clear my mind a bit, anyway~ Especially if I had a rambunctious dog for company."
The directional shift she followed without much of a care, and her eyes brightened considerably and she nodded. "Sure, sounds like fun~"
And why wouldn't it be fun to watch a puppy lose his mind over going to run after a ball? Phoebe giggled beneath her breath at the exuberant barks and subsequent chase. Yes, she knew how he felt~ It was nice to be excited and happy.

Austin would watch Grimm run like crazy to fetch the ball and in his fit of excitement, nose it away over and over til he finally got it into his mouth. He would watch the pup wag his tail back and fourth and raise his head as if he was extremely proud of his catch. Bringing the ball back to his guardian, Austin would pry it from his mouth and toss it again.
"Atta boy.
Casting a glance toward his company, Austin would smile toward her. He almost offered her a chance to throw the ball, but he avoided asking her. Throwing things with broken ribs was probably a bad idea. standing once again, he'd turn to face her fully.
"So Phoebe, you got any family in this god forsaken city?"
After he had spoken, he regretted asking that question. After all, Austin's parents were both officially dead now. And he had never had any siblings. However he was more afraid of her returning his question back on him. It was too late though, he would bite his lip a little as he brought those hazel hues back to Grimm, who had just returned once again.

It was hard to not laugh or even giggle too much in delight. So she watched Grimm with a wide smile, instead, watching him nose the ball into a better grip and trot back. Ah, this dog could kill her through sheer adorableness. Much as she wanted to throw the ball a time or two for him, herself, she knew she wouldn't be able to pitch it hard enough to throw it far enough...and it would hurt, anyway.
Best to let her ribs be.
Her gaze flicked back from watching Grimm resume his chase to Austin, and blinked a little before her smile stretched a little in answer to his own. Yeah, he seemed to be a pretty good guy! But why did he bite his lip? Did he think he was asking something particularly nosy?
"Well... I have my little brother, and my Mom. My older brother is in California~ Mom's away on business, right now, so, technically, just Allen at present~" She gave him a reassuring smile. He hadn't asked anything bad! "What about you..?"

Austin would listen as the girl spoke about the family he had asked about. in some ways he felt a little jealous, because Austin had never had a sister or brother. Nor did he really have suitable parents. But he had always tried to ignore those things, to stay strong for himself. That didn't mean he hadn't wanted someone to be close with, as family was suppose to be.
"Me? Naah. Both dead."
He had spoken as if it was no big deal, like it was normal for your parents to be dead before you even turned 18. Of course on the inside, it tore him up. Austin had nothing to do with his father's death, but he was the reason his mom was laid out in a shallow grave somewhere. That was his fault, and he was slowly becoming accepting of it. Even if the wound still stung.
"My dad loved motorcycles so much, he died on one. My ma.. She was a junkie. She left when I was four.. I don't know if she is dead or not, but she might as well be."
Lifting a hand and rustling that semi-longish dark blond hair, he would stare back at Grimm. He would almost loose himself in though again. And then he would flinch for a second. In his head he heard the gun shot as if he had pulled the trigger again. He would shake his head, hoping she hadn't noticed. Austin felt as if he probably just ruined this little chat with all that.
"Ahh, sorry. Not trying to bring you down."

Phoebe frowned, but her eyes softened in sympathy. Her lips parted, as though she would speak, and then closed again as he continued. Man...that was rough. That was worse than rough.
"I'm sorry, Austin..." She breathed out, quietly but certainly still audibly for him. She watched him a while, her eyes only straying to Grimm once or twice. But, she saw the twitch. When he apologized, she shook her head, chalking the twitch up to him having a realization he might have brought her down.
"It's...it's okay. I kind of know how that feels, actually. My dad...died when I was four. I don't think my mom ever really got over it. So, she's actually hardly ever home. My older brother left last year. So...at least I have Allen." She blinked, finding that sounded horribly insensitive. The last bit. The brunette quickly continued, fidgeting a little: "But you're living with someone, right? Your friend, who owns Grimm, and his family, maybe?"

"Well, I have my god father, Rick. He's really.. Uh, Career oriented. I guess he never expected a kid to land in his lap though. He doesn't know what he's doing."
Austin would grab the ball from Grimm and Cock his arm back, tossing it as far back into the field as he could. Turning to face Phoebe again, Austin would stare at her for a couple seconds. She seemed nice. Maybe too nice to be around Austin. There was a lot he wasn't ever going to be able to tell her. Austin had many demons, side from his most recent. And the years ahead would only breed more.
"Don't get me wrong.. He's a good guy. I guess I love him like a dad.."
Crossing his arms, the outlaw would cast his sight away from her. Only because he didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable. Or maybe he didn't want to make himself uncomfortable. Austin didn't exactly have anyone that showed him sympathy. Not that he was looking for it either.
"Eh, anyways.. Just your bro, huh? No boyfriend?"

Ahhh, so his uncle was like her mom. Understanding glinted in her eyes as she nodded a little. Unfortunately, he didn't have a sibling like she did. That was unfortunate, but, apparently he had at least one friend. And that friend had a dog, which was undoubtedly a blessing.
"I know how that's like~ But hey. You've got friends, too, and Grimm~ So that's good at least." She gave a smile, but it wavered a little when he looked away. Hmm, maybe she was making him uncomfortable?
She blinked at his question - or more accurately, the lattermost part - with her eyes widening just a touch before crossing slightly. They uncrossed just as quickly to bring Austin back into focus. She hadn't been expecting that question!
"Uh, yeah, just me and my brother~ No boyfriend." Not for about a year and a half, truth be told! She grinned a little in lieu of laughing or chuckling.

"And at least you have a brother. What's he like?"
A quick question to deflect the conversation from the boyfriend question. I guess you coukd say Austin had just been a little curious. The answer he had recieved kind of surprised him. She seemed nice and she was a pretty girl, so he had figured there was a boyfriend before he asked. However, they were fleeting thoughts. It wasn't like he was trying to get with her, just trying to learn more about her.
It wasn't always jealous boyfriends you had to watch out for. Over-protective siblings could cause just as much trouble. Not that he knew that was the case. But it was in Austin's nature to learn as much about a person as he could. There were multiple reasons why knowing the little details mattered. He could feel interest growing in regards to Phoebe, even if it just lead down the road toward friendship.
But Austin rarely gave trust easily. It was something that had to be earned. At this moment he felt she could be trustworthy, but your first encounter with someone wasn't always the most truthful. There was still going to be quite some time before he would feel 100% about her. He knew from experience that most people wore masks, such as he. You never truely knew what was underneath.
"Is he laid back, chill? Or is he gonna pop out of a bush and try to beat my face in for talking to his sister?"

Phoebe blinked, actually turning to face Austin and curb the distraction that was Grimm running after and playing with the ball. He was wanting to know about her brother..? His followup...made things make more sense. She half-grinned, unable to reach up to scratch her head with bags in each hand, but that probably wasn't a bad thing.
"Well, he doesn't stalk me or anything. He knows better. Still, he can be really protective, but, I'm the same towards him. I mean, we've been there for one another for years... We're kind of all each other has, really. So, I hope that makes sense. But! Otherwise, he's kind of quiet. Some might think him shy, but he's really not at all." Her half-grin eased into a happy smile. "He's smart. Sometimes too smart for his own good. He decided to go back to school, so, the only one he could get into was five-five-two, aaaaannnnd... I decided to switch over, despite the reputation it has. Couldn't let him go there alone, nope~! He's got some pretty strong morals and doesn't tolerate bullying, so he'll speak up against that. And he's got genuinely good intentions. Uhm...hmmm~"
What else could she tell him that wasn't too personal? ...actually! That seemed like a pretty good base to go on. It would be up to Austin to get to know him more than that, if he wanted to.

Bending down toward the returning dog, Austin would snag the ball and pocket it, leashing the once again as he listened to the girl speak about her brother. In a way he would have liked to have been able to have a sibling so close. At least then maybe he wouldn't feel so lonely in his family life. But he knew that wasn't the case, so he wouldn't dwell on it much longer. However he heard her say the name of her school, the same as him.
"Maybe I'll meet him. I go to school there.
Standing up, he would gather Phoebe's bags once again, as he tugged Grimm to follow. Reluctantly, the pup would take the lead again, tail wagging and nose going wild. It was a small world, he guessed. He just happened to run into a fellow school mate. Austin to cast his glance toward Phoebe once again and speak.
"I think I see why he wants to protect you. I would do the same if I had a sister. This world is messed up, full of crazy people. You never really know what people are capable of sometimes.. I could be a serial killer, and you're walking my dog with me."
Austin would laugh a little bit after he said it. The last little bit was said in a tone that implied it was a joke. Deep down, while he wasn't a serial killer, he had killed his mother. Of course he would never tell this girl that, no matter what. He would look away for a few seconds, just to turn back toward her and speak.
"Just sayin', Sometimes you girls are a little too trusting, you know? But I'm sure you and your Golden Gloves can handle it, huh?"

They were going to the same school!? Phoebe gave a slight gasp as her eyes widened and a grin stretched her lips back apart.
"Really? That's amazing..! But not the first time I've randomly met someone from the same school, only out in the city~ What grade!?"
She watched him pick the bags up with the same sense of disappointment poor little Grimm must have felt. Too bad it seemed things would be cut short. But then, it wouldn't do to exhaust the young dog, either. She did, however, blink almost bewilderedly at Austin's words. If she wanted to, she would have rubbed her arm rather awkwardly, but let the weight of the bags keep her from doing so. She gave a small smile, though, because she could tell he was joking. That wasn't really what bothered her.
"It's true the world is...kind of messed up. And there are plenty of people that would hurt others. But it's just as true the world is beautiful and interesting and there are good people, too. And if I didn't take the chance, I would t get to meet those kinds of people, and, wouldn't be talking with you right now. I mean...we have both sides in us. It just happens to matter what we choose and when and even how often that defines us. I guess. Right?" Pheebs looked over as they continued to talk and walk, green eyes bright. "Haha. But. I'm sure I can mostly handle my own! And if not I seem to have good friends, and Allen~"

"I'm a.. Super freshman. I didn't do so well in middle school."
After responding, Austin Listened to Phoebe speak again. It had got him thinking about his world point of view. This girl was kind. Austin didn't really know much about the negative things that happened in her life, but she certainly did have a different outlook on things. Austin had been surrounded by negativity his whole life. The young outlaw could never see things like she did, no matter how hard he tried.
"I envy you a little.. At least you have somewhat of a positive outlook. Everything looks grey and black to me. I suppose I didn't have a very.. friendly.. childhood. A lot of the people that I know have always made the wrong choice. I don't have many friends either.."
Knuckles would shake his head. He wasn't trying to be a downer. He felt kind of bad for laying any of it on Phoebe. He doubted she wanted to listen to all his 'whineing', or maybe he was afraid of being called a 'bitch' At least that was how most of the trash he hung out with would look at him for sharing these kind of feelings. Besides, he couldn't let her think he was all emo all the time.
"Anyways.. Ahh, what do you do for fun?"

"I'm a Junior, so we won't have any classes, unfortunately. But...though I assume you're having a better time of it than in middle school, if you need help with something, I'd be happy to help if I can~"
She tipped her head to the side as he spoke, almost...lamenting his outlook. But she could tell he wasn't looking for sympathy all the same.
"...you know... Something Aaron used to say was that 'perspective takes time to change, on your own'...but circumstances and situations can change it quickly, or make it harder to. Still! If you genuinely want to change your outlook, you've gotta go big or go home, even if it has to be done in baby steps~ And if nothing else, you're making one friend today, too~!"
She gave Austin a wide grin and very gentle nudge with her elbow. She thought her ribs a real damper at times like this, when she would have rather bounced around and given him a gentle jab of encouragement. (Or two.)
"For fun~? Oh~! Just about any sport. Or working out. I actually really like jogging, too. Things that let me burn off energy. And listening to music is the best, especially while doing any of the other things. I'd like to maybe learn how to play something, I just don't know if I'd be able to practice as much as I'd need to..." She trailed off, looking briefly at Grimm before her gaze snaked back up to Austin and then ahead as she admitted something a little more close to her heart. "I, uh, also really like to sketch~ I'm not too good with people or animals. But I really like sketching layouts for houses and buildings~ What about yooouuu~?"

The young outlaw let his mind roll around Phoebe's words as she spoke them. There was just something about her attitude that made him toy with the idea of him changing his ways. But he knew that was not possible. Austin was who he was. Everything he had learned growing up was deeply ingrained in his very being now. There was no way out. And in all honesty, Austin could never see himself leaving his club.
And then it came to her hobbies, hobbies which Austin rarely took part. Maybe a little football here and there with the guys, but never for a school. That just wasn't him. And it wasn't like he could tell her he sold guns, drugs and dealt in other nefarious work. Instead he guessed he would have to give the generic motorhead man response.
"I work part time in an auto-shop, I like cars..But I love motorcycles. I guess it's just in my blood. I ride a lot since I got my license for it, Got my dad's old bike. Probably the only thing I have left that was his."
At least that was all true, right? Austin wouldn't mind being more open about what he did for a living, but the last thing he wanted to do was scare his new friend away. If he could reveal more when he knew she would keep her mouth shut, he would. For now though, he was a bag of secrets securely tied shut.
"I suppose I like walking dogs.. Grimm is good company. And I like to shoot guns at range.. But I rarely get to do that, my god father only has so much time. And I love a good brawl, can't turn those down for the life of me."
Austin would smile a little bit as he spoke. At least he was able to feel some form of comfort in speaking about the things he did like to do. Austin wasn't completely dead emotionally, at least not yet. Though he was silently suffering on the inside over what he had done. But as always, he would ride out the storm. Continuing to follow the dog, he would watch as he paused and then went #2 right on the pathway.
Way to make an impression, pooch

"Ohhh, you have your own bike? Nice~ And even better that it was something of your dad's~~! You know mechanical stuff when dealing with them and vehicles, then, too?" All that would certainly come in handy! She smiled, naturally enthusiastic, and dropped back to silence as Austin spoke again.
"Fighting's a lot of fun, yeah~" She nodded in agreement and gave a very slight chuckle. "I don't know how I'm going to stay sane while my ribs heal. I feel like I'm already dying a little inside and it's only been a couple days..."
She trailed off as she side-stepped around Grimm as he went about his business. He was just doing what dogs had to do, after all, so she wasn't exactly put off. She turned, looking back at Austin and coming to a standstill to wait on the dog. Naturally, since he's said he enjoyed walking dogs, she figured he'd have a baggy to deal with the droppings, and all would be well. They would have to part ways soon, unless he decided to walk along with her. But that point wasn't for another couple minutes at the very least~
