Appearance
Shaggy hair, unusually thick beard for someone his age, large chin, and soft almost puppy-dog eyes. A wiry but sturdy body formed by years of football, backwoods exploring, and several brawls. Generally pale skin but can hold a tan for a months after summer ends.
Personality
Bobby is at the same time the most stereotypical Southerner ever and at others an animal of an entirely different breed. He is a generally happy individual, seeing the world as 'half-full', isn't easily brought to tears or sadness. He is polite and easy-going, trying always to be a gentleman, especially to women. But when he is finally riled up he can explode with intensity and can become the worst enemy you've ever had. He is conservative in many things, believing in simple truths like God, honor, and family. He's not against changing times and new things but he is wary of New York's 'liberal' attitudes and culture, inadvertently showing his lack of exposure to the wider world growing up. He prefers to keep things low-key and doesn't do well with anything considered upper-class or otherwise fancier than a plaid button-down shirt. A man of conviction and manners who will break your nose for what he thinks is right but say "have a nice day" afterward.
Fighting Style
Never trained in any kind of formal martial art, Bobby has been a scrapper and a brawler since his youngest days. He learned the hard way how to both take a punch and give one, though to see him fight is like watching a bull in a rodeo. His movements are often chaotic and a flurry of attacks, though in a pinch he can settle down enough to string together a rudimentary system of defense and strategy. He largely uses his fists, kicking only was necessary, and is good at basic stand-up wrestling and tossing people into the dirt. He won't impress you with his form, but he will make you remember what a solid uppercut feels like.
Strengths
A tough hide, surprisingly high intellect, and a mean right hook. A charismatic man, you may actually feel bad for getting into a fight with him by the end of it, he's that good.
Weaknesses
Not exactly a speed demon, doesn't have much diversity in fighting other styles or kinds of people so his wisdom is shallow. He also has a very rough time trying to fight women, if he can muster the ability to throw a punch at all.
History
Born just outside Chattanooga, Tennessee to Virgil and Scarlet Battle, Robert Remington (better known as Bobby) grew up on the borders of three of the US’s most classically Southern states, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. His father was a tavern owner and part-time football coach for the local high school, his mother an English teacher with a particular love for Mark Twain. Sweethearts from an early age, they had grown up in the same area and married at an early age, having Bobby (their only child) born when they were only 22-years-old.
Bobby is the latest in a long line of strong willed Southerners; his ancestors had fought in the American Civil War for the Confederacy and had passed down a strong sense of what it meant to be a good man. In this sense Bobby had a stereotypical upbringing for the region. He played in the surrounding hills and mountains as a young child, splitting his time between exploring the woods and hanging around his father’s downtown bar. He was friendly and never got on the worst side of the law but was quick to rough house with his fellow kids, earning a reputation early on for being a tough person to beat in a fair fight.
Life continued in fairly standard for Bobby all the way up to and into high school. He played football for his father (tight end, almost made All-State), got into trouble for drinking underage, and was thrashed by his mother once for refusing to take his hat off in church. He enjoyed life, spent his weekends chasing girls around town, and looked forward to the day he could officially drive his grandfather’s old truck. He was musically gifted as well, becoming an adept guitar player and, with a suitably good, twangy singing voice, he could have easily translated his athletic career into country music stardom in the future.
But everything came crashing down one unusually cold day in March.
His mother went in to undergo a routine physical exam…and came out with a cancer diagnosis. Breast cancer, stage 2 and advancing rapidly. Without immediate care she could be dead within a year. Rushing to the aid of his wife, Bobby’s father threw himself into raising money and finding the best doctors possible. But it quickly became apparent that the level of treatment in the area wasn’t up to the task of her exponentially worsening condition. In addition, he simply couldn’t run a bar, care for her, and earn the money necessary.
So Virgil packed up his family and moved them over 800 miles to New York City. He agreed to take a position as a nursing assistant at a school hospital, in order to better afford his wife’s treatment. The hours were long, the work grueling, and her prospects still uncertain at best.
Bobby was the unfortunate collateral damage of the move. Ripped away from everything he had ever known, he was now a refugee, a country boy thrown into the big city. No friends, no knowledge of the area, a mother spending more time in hospitals than at home, and a father distraught at the potential early death of his only love. Doing his best to keep a positive face on a harrowing situation, Bobby now finds himself enrolled at the infamous PHS #552, the only one that would take him after the school year had already started. It’s going to be a bumpy ride…
