A brand new group is on the making, The Apostles, a Pillar-like group led by none other than our brand new headmaster, Gregoire Girard. A student body that would lead students and enforce the law on this little school of ours. Little is still known about this student body, but who knows? It might just be what the school needs.

A lunch box is seen last Friday, around 12:37:08pm with an encouraging note packed inside. This appalling display that utterly lacked manliness has left many students stunned and outrage, as some decided, after a long while, to speak out against it.

"Without a doubt," Kenji agreed, glancing over at Pansa with a light smile. These were not things that he hadn't spend a considerable amount of time contemplating and realizing, though that was a long time ago. "Don't get me wrong. By no means do I regret what I did. My sisters are all safe to this day, and I could've gotten unlucky with my plea deal; that I was able to come to this country and this school instead of rotting in prison is, comparatively, a hell of a lot better."
Nodding to himself, then following Pansa's gaze over to the birds again, he concluded, "It's been a while since I told anyone about that. Still feels nice, talking about the past, though I tend to focus on the future most of the time." This time, Kenji's chuckle was a bit more jovial, but not overly so. He relaxed a notch on the bench, half-glancing over at the black-haired girl once more. What was her story, anyway? He might never know, but it did make him wonder, what with how she reacted to his.

| If this wasn't an exaggeration,
It felt as if Kenji was attempting to pull at Etsuko's heart strings, with what he was saying and all. Feels nice to talk about the past hm? Etsuko decided to change the subject to an equally depressing matter.
"Have you ever been shunned because of your race?" For reasons she couldn't explain at the moment, Etsuko felt it would be alright to ask Kenji this very important question, even if being purposely vague about the matter, she just wanted to know his oppinion in the long run of things.

Race, huh... Kenji wasn't unfamiliar with that topic, something that he considered as he looked back to the birds. He'd been both shunned and discriminated against, being a full-blooded easterner in the western world. Even though his English had little to no real accent to speak of, that didn't change his appearance, mannerisms, or his preferred language, things that would either earn him harassment from those who opened their arms to prejudice, or outright shunned by the same people.
"I have, Pansa, unfortunately. I'd need more than all of my digits to count the times, and at least as many extra to count the times I've been verbally discriminated against. All that said..." Kenji shook his head before continuing. "As long as it doesn't become physical, or pose a problem for someone who deserves no such trouble, I let things roll off of me and carry on."

| Etsuko would analyze every word, breaking down his everything Kenji said.
Unfortunately, it seemed things were as Etsuko had thought. "Yes, I suppose you can." she would say to Kenji's last comment with a sigh and the closing of her eyes. Regardless of her own circumstances however, Etsuko was glad Kenji didn't face many problems on that touchy subject.
She would begin to take out a book, thinking a little reading might encourage a change of subject before more questions were asked. It's amazing what you can do with a pair of eyeballs and a compilation of papers with words on them.

The weight in the air was starting to give Kenji a metaphorical shoulder ache, the ronin wondering if this conversation was going to continue heading in such a negative direction. While he enjoyed talking about a variety of topics and engaging in discourse, things on the topic of prejudice were yet uncomfortable. He found that he didn't have to worry about it as he looked over to see Pansa with a book in her hands. Was she subtly enforcing a change of topic, or was she in the mood to read? Either way, Kenji was struck curious. "What're you reading?" he inquired.

notes here. @tagged words: 150 | Kenji seemed interested in what she was doing.
This actually came as quite a shock, since very few had asked Etsuko a similar question in the past. Most common folk tend to focus on what their doing rather than the business of others. "What? Oh, it's a tale about a man. He runs across a witch who casts a spell that turns him into a half-man half-beast. So he is faced with much sorrow and misery until he meets this girl, who, in turn accepts him for whats on the inside, rather then the outside."
That might have been the most Kenji's seen Etsuko talk at once. It's interesting how books can get her going. But she assumed this topic might not interest Kenji for long, so her eyes would continue to move across the current page before moving to the next. Ignorance is bliss |

"That... Actually sounds familiar," Kenji vocalized his recognition, then looked down at his lap as he tried to piece together what the tale was called. He was an avid reader through and through, but this tale sounded like one from the west, and unfortunately, about two-thirds of his literary knowledge stemmed from books native to his homeland. That meant his exposure to the last third was a bit more limited, only becoming more readily accessible since his arrival in the US.
As Pansa turned the page, Kenji sighed, unable to come up with the title. "I know I've read that one somewhere, or at least I'm positive that I have, but I can't place the story's name. Is it on the spine or cover?" he inquired, glancing down at the book and bending over a bit to get a better look. His curiosity continued to boil and roll; now he was intrigued with both the tale and Pansa as a fellow reader.

notes here. @tagged words: 150 | The title? Ah, yes, that.
Etsuko turned the book to its side, still keeping a finger in to mark her page. "It's called 'From The Depths To The Horizon. Pretty uncommon."
Etsuko would glance at the cover of the book before resuming on her current page. "The author supposedly got his inspiration for the story from an event that occurred on his visit to a small village in japan. From the interviews, he seemed to have had a good time there."
This happened after the small village opened it's borders to the outside world. Although Etsuko felt this detail unimportant. "A little while after this happened I began to learn English from this American researcher that came by. It was very interesting."
Etsuko finished talking, leaving room for Kenji to reply as Etsuko began to hit the climax of the book.

As Pansa both showed and read him the title, it clicked for Kenji. He'd gotten a hold of his own copy of the book shortly before the incident that brought him here, and that was by sheer dumb luck of running across it in an old book shop. The ronin wondered for a second what his sisters had done with it, because he was certain it wasn't amongst his belongings here.
"I knew I'd read that tale," Kenji confirmed with a nod as the learned Pansa ceased talking to close in on the climax. "Now that I think about it, the copy that I had held a short passage about how it was dedicated to a village, but it failed to give its name. I rather wish I'd thought to look up more; it was a satisfying tale." He settled back on the bench again, but his intrigue was far from abating.
"Incidentally, you said that you began to learn English after picking up the book. I take it the two are related?" Kenji paused, thinking to make sure whether there was something else he ought to ask. Indeed there was, and he continued a moment later. "This researcher, as well. What were they like?"

| Tsubaki thought for a moment before smiling just a tad.
"He was the kind with the mustache. He was a very knowledgeable, having traveled to Russia, China, Canada, and even Australia. That really just left a few places."
Etsuko looked away. She attempted to ignore Kenji's comment about researching the village, and instead wait for him to comment on the current conversation of researchers as well as world exploration.
In the long run, Etsuko always wanted to travel, she just never had the money nor privilage to do so. Quite a shame it was.

"He sounds well-traveled, and I imagine similarly well-read," Kenji observed with a nod. The idea of worldly travel was an entertaining thought. One could find excitement in new cultures, foods, peoples... Battles with different martial and weapon styles... He had to snap himself out of the inevitable fixation on fighting. Perhaps that's why Kenji was really at 552. After all, the ronin had willfully gone on a modern day warrior's pilgrimage because, aside from wanting to improve himself, he wanted to throw down.
Quite the difficult urge to suppress, or at least it used to be.
"It's a romantic thought though, isn't it? I mean the idea of travelling the world, seeing what each country has to offer in comparison to the last, or even compared to your own... Granted, I'd rather have willingly come to the US to see it instead of being shunted here, but what can you do, right?" He chuckled lightheartedly, not intending to bring the conversation back to the prior topic, but draw an amusing contrast. "Suffice to say, this and the east coast of China are as far as I've gone, as well as to the Ryukyu Islands. What about you, Pansa? Have you been anywhere?"

That was a funny thing to add, she thought. "Well, I guess you could look at it that way." Kenji then went on to talk about the few places he had been on his own after laughing slightly at the fact that he would have rather come here of his own free will. Etsuko was sure many would have wanted to.
Now was not the time to brood over things, since Kenji had asked her a question. Etsuko would look away from him. "I've been to many places including Egypt and China..but that wasn't a good thing for the locals." Etsuko would pause for a moment before continuing. "In all honesty, I really would like to visit Paris some day, but with #552 that doesn't seem possible." Ignorance is bliss |

'Wasn't a good thing for the locals,' huh? With a phrasing such as that, Kenji could only guess at what she meant. Now that he took another look at her, she didn't seem like some random student. She struck him as being built for agility and light-footedness, perhaps even a tumbler's build. The ronin couldn't help but wonder what secrets she concealed, but had no interest in prying and making her feel uncomfortable, let alone prematurely ending their first meeting.
"Paris is a common pick from what I understand, and I can see why. I'd certainly like to spend at least a few days seeing what its streets and stores hold." Kenji nodded to himself. He could probably sit and rattle off any number of cities and countries that he'd enjoy visiting at least once. Then the thought occurred to him that he could discuss something relevant to Pansa's interest in the French capital. "Incidentally, I'm practiced in French. I've spent a bit of time studying language, and French was one of the ones I thought to pick up; very flowery language, snooty if used with the wrong tone, but not a bad tongue regardless. Had to learn English first, though," he explained.

notes here. @tagged words: 107 | "Of course."
Etsuko would reply with to kenji's last statement. "French does happen to be one of the harder languages to learn. Or at least that's what I heard."
She would look off into the yonder yet again, wondering where she should lead the conversation. Or maybe Etsuko should leave that choice to Kenji. There was a bit of trouble in the deciding process.
In the process, Etsuko noticed a single hair obscuring her vision in the right eye. She had never been too self observant. Etsuko felt things like these really didn't matter. Of course, base hygiene was an order. Ignorance is bliss |

"That's what people say, yeah." Kenji glanced back up at the sky as Pansa turned her attention elsewhere. Seems like the both of them had run this particular topic into the ground. When was the last time he just sat around with someone and shot the shit like this, anyway, and a stranger at that? He'd have to think about that later.
More importantly, the conversation needed a new subject, and it didn't seem like Pansa had anything at the moment. As Kenji looked back down to her, he saw her staring at something in front of her face. A hair, most likely, though he'd say nothing of it. Rather, he decided to bring the discussion to his acquaintance, wanting to learn - within reason - more about her. "So I've seen that you like to read, Pansa. What else are you into?" he inquired with a light smile. Of course, if she wanted to pose the same question to him afterward, he'd have no problems reciprocating.
