A storm was brewing within the confines of the city limits, a dull rolling thunder in the distance. Occasionally, a burst of wind would sail through the crevices and gaps made by the concrete buildings. The air was heavy with the scent of a promising rain. Hemera found herself walking the streets of the city by herself, wrapped up in her thoughts. Once more, she was wearing all black: black halter top, black skinny jeans, black thigh-high stiletto boots, and some earring jewelry she had picked up at Claire's. Her hair was braided down her back, the tail of the thick length tickling her bare lower back. In her ears were a pair of waterproof, Bluetooth headphones blasting some random music she had found on her phone through the YouTube app. Her gaze never came up from the sidewalk, always watching people's feet to dodge running into them. Eventually, she grew hungry and stopped off in a fast-food joint to grab a burger, fries, and a drink. While she sat and waited for her food, she stared out through the window. The sky was becoming darker by the second, appearing like an omen to most. The citizens roaming the streets were hurrying to get out of the open before the skies opened up and let loose their flood of rains. Perhaps it wouldn't be rain. Maybe it would be snow. She loved the snow...Her thoughts turned back to how, as a child, she would drag her father outside to play with her in the freshly fallen snow. It was chilly outside, but Hemera had never cared. She would run outside with nothing on but her pajamas. Of course, the next day, she would wake up with a cold. It was still worth the cold, though. She spent valuable time with her father and those memories would never leave her. Suddenly, Hemera jerked herself back to reality. She was back on the street. Had she eaten already? Looking down at her hands, she saw a cup emblazoned with the fast-food joint's logo. She must have eaten and just not thought about it. She shook the cup and took the last couple drags of the drink down and threw the styrofoam cup away. It was then that Nyka decided to comment. 'Hey. What are you doing?' 'I'm thinking.' 'What's there to think about. You need to find that killer. Plain and simple. I'm the only one that can help you,' Nyka snidely said. 'We must get these chains to your soul unlocked and we can do this. You and I.' The thought of the killer froze Hemera in her tracks. A wave of hatred and dismay washed over her. He needed to pay for what he did to her family. She needed to get away from the general public before she hurt someone. Looking around, she saw an alley way nearby and rushed to enter it. She found a fire escape and grabbed a hold of it, quickly making her way up to the roof of the building. With a heavy clack, her boots hit the roof and they frantically crossed the hardtop. Finally, they reached the edge of the building and she stopped. The wind blew harshly across her bare skin but Hemera paid no mind to it. She needed to calm down. The first step was isolation. The second step would be to break something. The third? Well, the second step usually did the final trick. To start, Hemera just sat on the edge of the building. It was a good fifth story building. Someone looking up might have thought that she was trying to jump. But, they were all too busy trying to get out of the bad weather. Hemera welcomed it. Within seconds, the first snow began to fall. Slowly, it started to accumulate on her hair and shoulders. The cold precipitation seemed to be calming her really well. She took a deep breath in and sighed heavily. When would she find this killer? When would she be able to avenge her family?

“Dang it’s cold out.”
It’s not so bad out…
I thought as I walked past a few people unlucky enough to be outside. I wasn’t exactly dressed in the warmest clothes, blue skinny jeans, a green v-neck, worn black high top sneakers, and a black hoodie zipped up halfway. Luckily I had something besides clothes to keep me warm. I pulled the flask up to my mouth and took a deep sip, drinking quite a bit. I felt the warm burn of the Crown Royal as it went down. Capping the flask I would continue walking.
Something would cause me to slowly come to a stop. I held my right hand out into the air, feeling the cold drops of snow melt against it. It was cold and snowing now. Things couldn’t get much worse could they? I looked up into the sky, watching the snow fall down. A strong gust of wind pushed my hood down, revealing my now brown hair as it moved in the wind slowly. And that was when I noticed it. Someone at the edge of a building just about to jump. I was about to step forward, but then paused.
This has nothing to do with you Yuy… Leave it be…
I turned around and took a few steps to walk away.
“Dammit…”
I turned around and jumped forward, landing on the fire escape. From there, I would use my strength to jump upwards one more time, clear onto the rooftop. I landed taking a few steps forward.
“What do you think you’re doing over there?”

No clues had been given to her by the police. Hemera had yet to attempt breaking into the police precinct. She wasn't quite ready. Back in her old home, she had designated her old bedroom as her planning room, blueprints of various buildings of importance scattered across the floor and wall. Handwritten notes and strings of yarn adorned the blueprints, going back and forth between items. It was quite pretty when she looked at it. It was getting colder. How long had she sat on this ledge watching the people down there on the streets, scurrying through the traffic and pedestrian hustle to get to safety? They were like ants. Insignificant ants scattered about. They didn't matter. No one mattered, really. 'Yes, nothing matters. Nothing compares to the torment that plagues you. The questions. The wonder. The worry. Has that person struck again? When will he or she be stopped?' "You don't have to remind me of this, Nyka," Hemera murmured to herself, eyes closing halfway. They felt a little heavy. Reaching up with one hand, she felt her lashes. Hmm. Snow had accumulated on them. Oh well. She dropped her cold hand back to the ledge and leaned back, her hair camouflaged and hidden within the snow on the roof. It was then she heard a crunch in the snow and a voice. "What do you think you're doing over there?" Turning an expressionless face towards the voice, Hemera saw a brown-haired young man standing on the roof with her. He wasn't exactly dressed for the cold weather. Neither was she, but she thrived in this weather. It helped to clear her mind of all impurities. 'Yes, impurities. Anything that will keep you from finding your answers. Who are you, Hemera? What are you? Who exactly am I?' Nyka giggled from within. Ignoring Nyka for the moment, Hemera said, "I'm sitting. Isn't it obvious." She turned back to stare at the street and pulled out her phone. With a few finger swipes on her Note 4, she was in business. She began to tap her foot to the beat of the song. Hemera took a deep breath and began to sing "Bullets" by Archive.
Come touch me like I’m an ordinary man,
have a look in my eyes, underneath my skin there is a violence, it's got a gun in it's hand,
ready to make ready to make, read' ready to make sense of anyone, anything anyone, anything (x4)
Black holes living in the side of your face, razor wire spinning around your around your (x5) around your (blistering sky) (x3)
bullets are the beauty of the blistering sky bullets are the beauty and I don’t know why bullets are the beauty of the blistering sky bullets are the beauty and I don’t know why
personal responsibility (x4)
Confine me let me be the lesser of a beautiful man, without the blood on his hands, come and make me a martyr come and break my feeling, with your violence with the gun on my head,
ready to take, ready to take, ready to take, ready to take out anyone, anywhere. anyone, anywhere (x4)
Black holes living in the side of your face, razor wire spinning around your, around your (x5) around your (blistering sky) (x3)
bullets are the beauty of the blistering sky, bullets are the beauty and I don’t know why, bullets are the beauty of the blistering sky, bullets are the beauty and I don’t know why.
personal responsibility (x4)
Black holes living in the side of your face, razor wire spinning around your, around your around your around your (blistering sky) (x6)
bullets are the beauty of the blistering sky, bullets are the beauty and I don’t know why, bullets are the beauty of the blistering sky, bullets are the beauty and I don’t know why.
personal responsibility (x11).... Hemera pulled her feet up from the ledge and stood in the middle of the song, becoming even more passionate as the song continued. The music grew stronger and she sang aloud, her emotions crying out to the falling sky. As the song ended, she pulled her headset off and turned towards the young man. "What are you doing here?" she asked softly.

“Oh… Uh…”
My voice came out very weak and quiet. I didn’t know what else to say.
You went to a school where most people just stood on the rooftop and hung out idiot. How are you going to go and jump to conclusions like that Yuy?
My head turned down slightly, allowing my bangs to cover my eyes. I clutched the flask in my hand a bit tighter. I didn’t know what to do. Should I stay? Should I go? I turned my head up slightly as the girl began to sing. Something in the lyrics stung me.
Personal responsibility? What was that for me? In the past… It was the school, the city. I was the Protector. But… I just couldn’t keep doing it. I was fracturing, and I had been for a while. If I continued with it… I think I’d crack completely. I didn’t think I’d survive being the city’s protector again. This song meant something to the girl too, I could tell. Did the lyrics sting her too?
“Me? I… I’m…”
My eyes widened slightly as the girl asked me her question. What was I doing here? I gripped my flask tighter again. Dammit… My eyes narrowed slightly as I replied back with the only response I could think of.
“I don’t know…”

"You don't know? Are you sure?" Hemera stated quietly. Slowly, she approached the young man, her shoes crunching into the fresh snow, leaving her footprint behind. She began to speak once more, still quiet. To be loud in this environment would be a sin to the beauty of the surroundings. "Everything has a meaning. Everything has a purpose. Every action, every thought, every wish, and every want. We are but pawns in the game of life. What will we do with the bodies we were granted by those that reign above? Will we idly stand by while the world goes on?" She had reached the man by now and was circling him slowly, azure eyes never leaving him. Her ruby lips continued on. "Or will we take action and take back our control? Can we break free from the cage that society and history has constructed around us, the cold iron bars growing stronger the longer we wait?" Hemera stopped in front of him and brought one finger up to caress his face, if he would allow it. Furthermore, she would lean in and murmur in his ear, "What are you born to do, young bird? What is your purpose?"

"I... I'm sure..."
I cast my gaze downwards again, watching the snow as it landed against the ground. I should just go. I should just stop wasting everyone's time. Go back to being the faceless alcoholic walking through the streets.
I could feel something welling up inside of me as I continued to listen to her. I felt the feeling growing. Right there in my chest. My heart began beating faster. As she placed her hand up to my cheek, I couldn't shake that feeling. Something was swelling up inside of me. And then it all reached it's peak.
I recognized the feeling. It was a soft pain. Almost like something was tugging on my heart. I could feel my throat closing up. It felt like any second my heart would just stop and fall straight down into my stomach. My body felt warm... What the hell was this feeling? Was this some kind of QI? I quickly pulled away as she finished speaking. Stumbling backwards a few steps, I would fall to my knees on the edge of the rooftop. I felt it coming... A half digested mix of alcohol and food forced it's way up throat. It pushed it's way through my mouth. The sick mixture slid right down my tongue, scraping against my teeth as I vomited from the rooftop and down onto the sidewalk below.

The sound of wretching filled Hemera's ears. She remembered those days. Back when she was with her crew, they would all snatch what booze they could and drink after a successful day. Little did they know that Hemera had developed a bit of a drinking problem. No thanks to Nyka. Nyka enjoyed the taste of the strong distilled drinks and Hemera had been an innocent bystander in her own body. Until Hemera grew to enjoy it...she had fought the urge of drinking for a year, only Nyka partaking in the liquor and dark alleys. Coming back to herself, Hemera sauntered over to the kneeling young man. Kneeling with him and taking one hand, she began to thread her fingers through his brown hair. Softly, she began to murmur once more. "I, myself, am a beautiful black swan locked in a mythril cage, the intricate patterns so clear upon it's iron walls. I hear the soft jingle of the keys next to my ear, but I am blind to my surroundings. I reach towards the sound, but alas, there is nothing but air." She paused for a moment to stare up at the skies, the snow falling considerably heavier than before. It would be only a little more she would be able to tolerate this chilly precipitation, however beautiful it was. Looking back down, she grasped his hand and tightly grasped onto it. "We all run from things we wish to forget. We all do things to try and force the fright and pain from our memories. Drugs, sex, alcohol, fighting, looting.... It's a horrible way to live. It's a horrible way to eventually die from.... Look at me." If he did look at her, he would see bright azure eyes filled with tears, a trail of them running down her face. The vivid memories had flashed before her eyes as she spoke of them. Some too gruesome to describe. Blinking once, she stood and offered her hand. "My name is Hemera Nicholette Day. Let's get off this roof and go somewhere warm."

Once the disgusting flow of liquids and half digested solids stopped flowing, I opened my eyes. Staring downwards to the ground. What the hell was that? I wasn't even drunk... I don't get drunk. There was no way that I had drank enough to puke like that. My heart still felt that slightly pain in it. Was this a heart attack? No. I you're supposed to feel pain in one of your arms or something with a heart attack.
What the hell was with this girl though. Just sitting there comforting me while I puked? I'm a murderer. I deserved this and so much worse. I closed my eyes trying to find the strength to get up. But no matter how deep I searched, I couldn't find it. I was pathetic. I wanted to pound my fist into the ground, I wanted to scream. But nothing. I couldn't do anything.
As she placed her hand over mine, I would turn my head to look towards her hand. Why? Why was she being so kind to me? My gaze would slowly shift upwards towards her face. Peering through my bangs I saw something. She was crying? Why. Hemera huh? I committed the name to memory. She asked to move somewhere warm. Was she cold? She wasn't dressed for this weather either. Even worse than I was. I nodded to her.
"I'm... I'm Ayden Black."
I didn't want to be Shugo Yuy right now. I didn't want to be a murderer. I just wanted to keep running from it. I would slowly rise up to my feet, pulling my hoodie off. I'd toss it over to her before uncapping my flask and taking a long sip to warm me up. I would begin to make my way over to the fire escape wordlessly.

When he turned his face to hers, they looked...empty. Had he done something to cause them to appear so? There were many things to cause them to become that way, but she didn't want to pry. And then he spoke again. His name was Ayden. What an unusual name. He certainly didn't look like an Ayden. Now that she thought about it, he seemed somewhat familiar, like she had seen him once before. 'Nyka, where have I seen him before?' 'How am I supposed to know?' scoffed Nyka from within. 'I never met the boy.' 'But, you can search my memory to find it.' 'Yeah, well-' 'You'll do it,' Hemera stated with finality. Coming back to her senses, she was just in time to catch the hoodie that was thrown at her. She blinked a few times before pulling it on. It was still warm from his body. She smiled softly and quietly followed him until they reached the fire escape. Grasping the edge of the rail, she flipped her body over and let go, waiting to grasp the next rail until she was a floor down. She continued this until she reached ground level and rubbed her hands together. The cold rail had been covered in snow and could lead to frostbite if not warmed thoroughly. She waited at the bottom for Ayden and called up, "Can this little bird fly within his cage, or are his wings clipped?" Hemera couldn't help but smile. She wanted to be this one's friend. It was a strong desire within her that she could not describe. Just something she felt as being 'right.'

Wings? Does she know who I am... No. Calm down Yuy. There's no way. There's no way she knows. You've never met this person before.
I would wait till Hemera safely made it down before I began my descent. I stepped up to the edge of the rooftop. Pulling the flask up to my lips for one last sip, I would cap it before sticking the flask in my back pocket. The chipped and dented dog tags around my neck would begin to shine a faint blue light before I took a step off the rooftop. Soaring down the building, I would land onto the ground. As my feet touched down, I bent my knees and angled my ankles to absorb some of the force. To dissipate the forward momentum, I would use the momentum I had absorbed into my legs to take a few steps forward.
"Unfortunately... I didn't have any wings to clip in the first place."
I gave a small smile. It was forced. My eyes didn't show the same happiness that the smile did. Yvette would have scolded me for it. And for a second as I began to turn away thinking about her, I think I actually put up a real smile. Just for a second though. It would fade away as I reminded myself I couldn't go see her. Not after I became a murderer.
"Anywhere you wanted to go?"

"So you actually do have a smile in you," Hemera stated. She hopped up and down for a second then turned to begin walking out of the alley and back to the less bustled streets. "Come on. I've got somewhere we could go. It's a cute little cafe not too far from here." She began to walk on th sidewalk, boots crunching again on the snow. By this time, a good inch or two had fallen. At this rate, it might even close some businesses early. Looking back towards Ayden, she couldn't help but giggle and dance around. 'Anything yet, Nyka?' 'No, not yet. I need more time.' If Ayden followed her the entire way, they would arrive at a quaint coffee shop nestled between a loan shop and cell phone boutique shop. Hemera pushed the door in and a small bell chimed. Immediately, they were welcomed with the overwhelming aroma of coffee beans freshly ground. This shop was famous for it. It was small but they did things the way they should be done. She moved over to a table next to the window and sat in one of the two chairs, leaning back against the cool window. This hoodie really was warm.... "Come on over. They'll come by to take our order in just a moment." She would stare at Ayden, examining his features.

"Huh? I... Yeah. I guess so."
I would continue following the girl. Pocketing the flask in my back pocket, I would shove my hands into my front pockets. I lagged a step or two behind her as we walked. Confusion came over me as she looked back at me before laughing and dancing. Was she laughing at me? Not like it mattered. I pulled the flask out again and uncapped it with my thumb before taking a drink.
Closing the cap once more, I would take a look at the cafe from the outside. I was sure I'd passed this street a million times and never noticed this place. I pocketed my flask before following Hemera in. I found a place sitting across from her at the table. I would turn my head and look out the window, pretending not to notice her examining me. She'd be able to make note of some light bruising on my cheek. There was heavy bruising on my arms. A few cuts on my arms had been cauterized shut. The cauterization and burn marks weren't clean though. As if they had been done by something with less focus than a flame or precision instrument. If she managed to catch them, Hemera would probably even be able to see a few track marks on my left arm.

It appeared that the boy was living a hard life these days. The bruises came to light when he turned his head away from her. Only one thing could cause these. She began to drift her gaze down south, following his body's lines. Various injuries could be seen popping from his skin, each in a different stage of healing. Hemera reached out with one hand and caressed one of the fresher wounds. "How long have you been fighting, Ayden?" she asked in a low murmur. Before she could say anything else, Nyka chimed in. 'I recognize him now. He was a participant of the first fight you saw at the school. He had become.....animalistic. He isn't the same though. He's tried to deceive everyone through appearance.' "Hmm...." As soon as Nyka thought of the scene, so did Hemera. She pulled her hand away from the wound and grasped the crook of his left elbow, covering the marks with her hand. She leaned in and whispered harshly, "How did someone like you, someone who fought so beautifully turn into this wasting wretch?" She let go of him and leaned back, eyes steadied on his expression. "You obviously shoot up, you're constantly drinking from that flask which can't possibly be Dr. Pepper for fun, and you're beaten up. Don't you have anyone on your side?" Exasperated, she pulled her braid from under the hoodie's protection and quickly let the strands fall loose from their captured state. She used a hand to rake her fingers through her hair and a bulk of it fell in front of her left eye. "Look, I'm not judging you," Hemera finally said. "I've been through my fair share of things. I understand. I just... I don't know. Maybe I can help you spread your wings again....help you become that proud fighter I first saw at that high school."

I turned my head back towards the girl as she began caressing my wound. Why did she care so much about someone she just met? I was baffled. It didn't really matter in the long run I suppose. After all, I wasn't going to see her again.
"I've been fighting for as long as I can remember."
I turned my head away from the girl again to look out the window after speaking. But then as she pulled in close to whisper, my eyes widened. She knew who I was. I stood up out of my seat, turning my head down to face the girl. I cast a dangerous glare in her direction. She wanted to help? Was she luring me into a false sense of security? Was all of this just a trap? I had to get out of there.
"The First Pillar. Shugo Yuy killed someone. That's what happened to him."
I began to back away from the girl and the table, making my way towards the door. Quickly once I reached the door, I would yank it open. My eyes began to glow red for a moment. I activated Blitzkrieg the moment the door was out of the way. My body would shoot forward at an incredible rate almost disappearing from where I stood. It launched in a straight line from where I had been facing, which happened to be the direction of a small side alley. My body would impact with the side of a building leaving a crater and cracks in the wall before bouncing off, hitting the ground and sliding until I hit the side of another building. I put my head back, panting for a moment and just laid there.
Blitzkrieg: For one post per 15 int, Soran can propel himself forward with a burst of qi energy that offers a speed bonus equal to +30 DEX. If, during this charge, he collides with his target, any further attacks he makes on them are treated as having +10 Str, though the qi burst bonus is lost. 1/4

The panic had filled his eyes faster than she could react and within the drop of a pin, he was gone. Hemera stood suddenly and ran towards the door of the cafe. She flung the thing open frantically. Why was he reacting this way? She had only seen him fight. To her knowledge, his name was Ayden and that was all. The cold air hit her body harshly as she turned to and fro, searching for him. "Ayden!!" she called out. "Ayden!!" He said that Shugo Yuy had killed someone. She could only assume that this information had something to do with why he suddenly freaked out. Dammit, she had to find him. After all, she had his jacket still. Determined to find him again, she ran back in to the shop and removed her boots, asking the baristas to hold on to them. Now that she was barefoot, it was time to begin the hunt.
Hemera ran up and down the streets, searching for the boy. Snow was starting to accumulate on her eyelashes and freeze together, but she still didn't stop. There was something about this boy she just couldn't let go. Eventually, she climbed up to the roof a nearby building and began to run. As she jumped from building to building, she would look down below to see if he was near her location. No luck so far. Her breath was leaving in harsh bursts of air, her fingers had begun to grow cold and her feet? Well, running in snow barefoot wasn't the smartest idea, but for her, she got her best grip with their pads. They were becoming numb and started to ache. After some time, she almost gave up when finally, a miracle. Just as she started to jump once more, she looked down to find Ayden sitting against a broken portion of a building. Yes! "Ayd-" she started but was cut off. Her jump had been short due to lack of attention and she had grasped at the ledge of the next building with her frozen fingers, body slamming against the wall with a harsh release of air. Damn...come on! She could do this! With both hands on the ledge, she attempted to pull herself up from this position. Only, she didn't succeed. Her grip was lost on the white fluff and down Hemera fell to the ground. It was a good twenty foot drop. This wasn't going to be pretty. She only hoped she didn't hit the boy. She'd already scared him off once.
