GET YOUR HALO DIRTY @tagged Vivi grinned and gave Katsumi a small wave when she sat down.
"Hey, Hiroshi."
It felt kind of funny calling her that, but Kat's secret was partially her responsibility. There'd be no calling her by her real name in public, no siree. She glanced over at Zoe when the girl spoke again.
"I'm fine, you okay Zoe? You look like you haven't slept in days."
She watched the young girl with concern, only to have the conversation cut short when the teacher spoke up. She seemed pretty laid back to be honest, not as bad as some of the teachers, but still unlike most teachers you'd come across in a regular high school.
Kat brought her and the boy Ruthkowski the gloves and goggles, and Vivi couldn't help but inwardly go 'Aww...' Kat's gentle demeanor and subtle ways of showing kindness were something endearing in Vivi's eyes.
"Thanks," the corner of her mouth turned up in a smile, and she proceeded to slip the gloves on. As she did so, her gaze wandered and she glanced at Ruthkowski out of the corner of her eye. Why did it seem like this guy was always with her...? Granted, it was probably something normal, like maybe they were dating, but Vivi was getting some bad vibes from this guy. She just couldn't place her thumb on why. Perhaps Vivi was beginning to feel a sort of big-sisterly protective-ness over Kat? NOTES ---

Catherine Kito. Cathkito. Cakito. Hapkido. Varus should learn Hapkido at the Y.
His mind was on other things as students entered the room, again, not entirely sure who everyone was. He vaguely recognized the purple-haired girl as being the main protester when he was grabbing samples of Jekyll and Hyde (although he could have sworn her hair was shorter back then) as well as the girl with glasses as being in band class. The rest were lost on him, blurs in the school crowd that he either hadn't fought or hadn't met yet.
He stood in the back of the line of the supply cabinet, waiting his turn to grab the safety equipment before returning to his seat. As with his chemistry teacher, the metal shop teacher disregarded both her language and attitude in favor of getting information across, which wouldn't be a bad thing were it not for the school's track record for crazies (it felt like yesterday that she threatened to take a blow torch to the classroom).
"Alright Kito what brand of weird do we have in store today?" he muttered to himself.

Cachito would await for everyone to go get goggles and glove as instructed before she would finally stand once more. Moving over to a peg by the white board, she would pull off a white jacket, and put it over her dress. Donning a pair of gloves and goggles, that were more like large glasses then anything else. Before taking a step over to a machine on one of the work benches by the side of the room. With a click of a button the projector would start displaying a real time image of the Abrasive chop saw. As she would sit down in front of it. "First lesson isn't going to be anything to challenging. Just me making sure you know how all of these machines work and that you can use them safely. Watch the board." The image of the board would slowly have her hands come into view. "This is a chop saw, with an abrasive blade. It works but pulling the thing downwards, on to what your cutting. Make sure that, the object your cutting is firmly locked in place with the clamps here." Her hand would point to the base of the machine. "Now slowly, and I mean slowly you lower the saw like so." She would pull the handle downwards, and the abrasive blade would meet a piece of metal and noise would fill the room. She would raise her voice to a shout. "Now don't push to hard, if you do, the blades on these things can bend and you never get a clean cut. Also never ever just let the thing spring up, lift it away gently, and keep your hands away from the blade." The last few words would come in extra loud as the metal broke in half and the blade no longer had anything resisting it. Lifting the saw up gently she would turn and stand. "Form a cue, the is a pot of piece of plastic next to the machine. I want you one by one to take a turn a cutting. Everyone else is to stand back, if you mess about. I will not be happy, I'm a lot more fun when I'm happy. Trust me, if you listen well and learn by the end of the year you will be able to make anything." She explained what she wanted them to do, smarter ones among them would probably wonder why they would be cutting plastic instead of metal and if asked she would explain. --- THIS CLASS IS NOW CLOSED

Kyou watched the teacher intently, his fingers folded in front of his mouth as he contemplated what she said, eyeing the machinery. He didn't question why they'd cut plastic--he figured it'd be because certain metals could ruin the blade depending on the metal and the blade's own strength, either that, or so that should the pieces get cut wrong and shards went everywhere, the plastic would be safer than the metal. He figured it was the former, as sharp plastic shards being thrown at someone at a high speed could still be deadly.
As he sat there, watching, he then started to think of something else... "I wonder... If that mechanism were to be used to..." He cocked his head to the side, frowning at the floor as he thought about it. "Yes... That is very good to know. Very good to know indeed. Should something like that ever happen, though I tend to doubt it would, I could apply this new information to my deductions. I never thought about it before--I feel so stupid... Oh well." He grinned, chuckling quietly to himself as he then proceeded to follow the given directions. "Who would've thought I'd take this class and learn a new way to catch a murderer?"

Basil smiles as Kenji comes back and gives him a pair of gloves and some goggles. He puts them both on and surprised the gloves fit perfectly. "Woah, how did you know my size?" Basil seems rather intrigued by Kenji and think he would be a good person to have around him.
As the teacher talks about metal work to the class, Basil leans over to Kenji and whispers. "So how did you get put into this class?" After waiting for an answer and the teacher to stop speaking he gets up first in line and being the first one to try the machine.
Picking up a piece of plastic he puts it in place, then turns on the saw. He's careful to make sure not to put his fingers in the way. Then he carefully keeps his eye on the blade and piece of plastic. He's not especially good at the pressure aspect, but it's not twisting the blade or anything, so he continues on. When the plastic splits he turns off the blade and smiles. It's a little wavy, but it's his first time. Then he steps aside for the next person to use it.

She... she didn't answer me.... she must hate me!
Sarah looked in shock at the girl didn't notice her at all. So when the teacher told them to settle down and introduced herself, Sarah had been listening but her face was on Zoe the whole time with this huge 'what the fuck expression' on her face. She almost wanted to grab a triangle and ding it at her until she acknowledged her. But instead settled for a weird look.
All throughout getting gloves and goggles prepared as being told, she was still very much keeping an eye on Zoe and waiting for some kind of response. She'd probably end up cutting off one of her fingers or something doing that but when it was important she shifted her attention forward. She even managed to give a wave to Kenji and Varus! "Hey Vivi!" She'd even say, whilst looking at Zoe.
Sarah got in line when the fancy saw had been demonstrated. She wondered if the reason they weren't jumping to metal was because plastic had less give and would have less of a vibration. Kind of like an easy mode or something. That was her guess but she didn't really care, she got in line and once it was her turn she'd put concentration on that for fear of losing her fingers. She'd grab the handle after having everything ready and in order and she'd slowly, carefully, push down on the saw and try to do so in a way that wasn't fast or that wasn't too slow so that it was one fluid motion.
Once she was done she'd take a step back and let someone else go, looking over once again, at Zoe, before whispering in her ear, "How come you didn't say hi back?"

"To be honest," Kenji started, adjusting his own gloves for comfort, "I took a guess based on the size of your hands. It helps that you'd thought to drag me around once before." Chuckling at that last point, he recalled how the boy had tried to yank him about the Loya apartment and into his bed for sleep. He still wasn't sure if that was his weirdest way of meeting someone, but it was on the top ten.
Basil whispered to Kenji as the teacher spoke, asking how he'd gotten stuck in the class. He didn't answer at first, waiting for their instructor to finish up before he fired back his own hushed response. "I chose this class, actually; I thought it'd be practical." When Basil rose to get in line, the easterner joined him, slipping in line behind Sarah.
Now while Kenji's experience with working metals was limited to swordplay and blade maintenance, he did have some proficiency with power tools like the chop saw, having learned the basics on how to use one while learning how to work with wood. Because of that, this lesson was more of a review to him than an exercise. After Basil took his turn, Kenji stepped up to bat next, and fluidly drew a piece of plastic from the aformentioned pot, setting it on the board and clamping it securely in place. Taking a breath to still himself, he took the handle and slowly brought it down on the plastic slab, mostly unfazed by the ensuing whine of the machinery cleaving through its inert victim. After it split, Kenji lifted the blade and switched it back off, clearing the board of his plastic and stepping aside.
Curious, however, was he regarding their usage of plastic as opposed to metal. Kenji had a thought about why, chalking it up to the low likelihood of most or any of the students present having experience with cutting metal and thus wanting to make sure they knew how to utilize and respect a power tool first. Still, for his own confirmation and the benefit of his classmates, he glanced over at his teacher. "Excuse me, Ms. Kito. I think I know the answer, but just to be sure, why are we starting with plastic instead of metal?"

GET YOUR HALO DIRTY @tagged Vivi watched the others take their turn at the saw with upturned eye brows. What the frick? Wasn't this a metal shop? And here they were cutting plastic, that totally made sense. The teacher probably had her reasons though.
Miyamoto eventually voiced her question, which was good. Vivi was curious, hopefully the teacher would answer.
Vivi stepped up to the saw, and after getting herself and the piece of plastic situated, she bit down on her bottom lip and grabbed the handle of the saw. Vivi was terrible with precision work most of the time... maybe if she was reeeaally careful she wouldn't wreck anything.
Vivi pushed down on the handle with a fair amount of pressure, but wasn't violent with it. Careful not to get her fingers in the way, she sawed through the plastic. Vivi then switched off the machine, moved the sliced plastic out of the way and stepped aside to make room for the next student. NOTES --- MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Cachito would watch as the students lined up and one by one came to the machine in order to do as she had instructed. As she had thought one of the students would end up asking her why they were cutting plastic. She smiled. "We cutting plastic because these blades wear down pretty fast. Unlike metal toothed saw blades, abrasive saw blades can not be repaired or sharpened. When they wear out, they wear out and they cost a lot more to replace then metal blades do to be sharpened." Cachito explained. She would then watch the student working, looking from the machine itself with the students at work, back over to the close up projection on the board that would allow her to see from a different angle. "Back to your seats for now." She said when everyone was eventually finished. Walking over to the machine and picking up the some of the plastic that had been cut. She examined the students work for a bit before she would drop them on the counter top next to the saw. The last one she was holding being tossed over her shoulder and into the bin. "Now a couple more machines to show you." She said clicking a remote and the view of another machine coming up. A drill press. She moved over to the machine and in a fashion much like the chop saw would explain as she used it. "This is a Drill Press, it used for drilling holes. Yeah machine names are a bit self explanatory. It pretty much the same as the saw, except different handle. Just pull down, and you may have to use a little more force then the saw." She showed herself going through the motion before returning it to the default position. She would then get up and click once more on the remote and yet another machine appeared and she would walk over to it. A metal lathe. She would place a round steel rod into the lathe and lock it in place. "And this is a metal lathe, it works but rotating the object at high speeds and then moving it towards the sharp point of the lathe like so." She did so, and took off about half a centimetre off the rod before stopping and with a gloved hand removing it. "Now split up choose a machine, those on the drill I want to see you drill 3 holes in a straight a ling and as evenly spaced as you can. While those on the lathe, I want you to take this 3 centimetres wide rod, down to 2 centimetres wide as best you can. Get to it."

Kyou listened to the teacher's instructions, tapping his foot lightly as she continued on with explanations. "Oh, now we're getting precise, huh? I suppose I should put on my glasses... I took them off originally because I can see up close somewhat and I didn't need to have 20/20 vision at that one moment. And my glasses are so big they'd probably get stuck in the goggles. Oh well. Never let it be said that I'm a cool and collected person who's never a complete moron and has charisma skills. Because that'd be a lie," He thought. He put on his glasses and then placed the goggles on over them, and like he had thought, they fit perfectly in with one-another from their equally large size. He sighed and walked over to one of the machines, hoping no one else would be there. On the occasion that someone had been at a machine before him, he'd just wait patiently until they were done and he would take his own turn, carefully drilling, cutting, or doing whatever else to his plastic pieces that he was given to practice on. Though he didn't exactly think that metal work was his forté (pardon my French), he was actually very good at drilling precise holes in straight lines with equal distance apart. When it came to working on the rods as well, he also seemed to have no troubles at all. Kyou finished up quickly before returning to his seat, quietly watching the other students work as he waited.

Much in the same way as she had before. Cachito would examine and watch the students who went to use the machines. Physically watching those on the drill, while looking over to the projection on the board to see those who used the lathe.
The students didn't seemed to be moving as fast as possible, some taking the time and being even more careful then was really needed. This was probably going to eat up most of the lesson if she let it continue. As such she would take the students who had finished what she had already set them and told them to follow her to the board.
She would speak as she flicked off the projector, and started to write on the board. "Alright, for those of you who are done, I want you to look at this." She said.
The board would have a brief of what would be the classes first assignment, a outline for them to come up with a project. Something useful that could be made with the machinery of the room, and to get to work writing up what they wanted to make, for the year, and what issues and problems they could face.

Kyou looked up at the board when the teacher gave an assignment, and his eyes widened for a moment. Then he gave a genuine grin--something Kyou rarely ever did. "We have to come up with the design of something that we could make using these tools? And give examples of what problems we might run into? How fun! Not that I'm particularly good with engineering, but I'm good at coming up with pros, cons, and other possibilities. I'm even developing a new drug and thinking like this is essential. So, first, I need to think."
He pulled out a notebook from his backpack, setting it on his desk before flipping to a blank page and pulling out a pen. He started to write down notes and make sloppy sketches. "First of all, the possibilities. What kind of a thing could I make? This isn't a welding class, so trying to weld together metal pieces into a stable form is out of the question. And I want to think about this. I don't have that much of a knack for inventing--" His eyes flashed and he smirked. "That's it!" he exclaimed, grinning even more as he drew a circle in his notebook, sketching the design for what it was he wanted to create.
He started writing speedily next to it, drawing arrows and pointing to different parts of his sketch, giving explanations and more information on how they would operate and what he'd have to do to achieve them. He whipped up equations and wrote down precise measurements, quickly filling the page with the plans. "And most importantly, I could actually use this. This would be extremely useful to me if I could make it. The only problem is that this device will consist of several tiny pieces of metal, precisely cut in order to entwine with each-other to stay in their place. The tools will make that difficult and dangerous, I'll have to get my hands close to the equipment to keep such small pieces in place, but it's worth it. I'm not clumsy enough to cut off a finger, and at the worst, I'll get some gashes here or there. Nothing fatal, and most certainly not a big deal!"
He stood to his feet and walked over to the equipment, studying the warning labels on the sides and (when they weren't in use) tapped on the metal mechanisms, studying them. He nodded with approval and then approached the teacher. "For this assignment, may I use metal?" He asked. "The type of metal that I need in order to create my assignment isn't stronger than the metal used to create the equipment, so the state of the machines should still stay perfectly intact. I looked at the machines to make sure that their energy absorption was high enough for the deed, and the physical strength of the metal blades is stronger than the type of metal required for my project. I only had to look to figure that much out, but I still need to ask for your permission first. After all, you're the teacher and the one in charge of these things, and I would truly hate to disobey direct orders without getting permission to do so first."

(( OOC: Short post. I didn't even know this thread advanced since the 18th. >_> ))
Kenji performed his assigned task quietly and diligently, choosing the drill press and puncturing his plastic canvas as directed. It wasn't a difficult task, just one that required an absence of distractions. Anyone could do it. Finished, he returned to his seat and took in the assignment that their teacher gave them. Making something useful out of the machinery present in the room...
A boy who Kenji remembered as the unfortunate, mouthy lad who was hung from the window of Sex Ed, asked if metal could be used for this project. The easterner also wondered this question, for it'd make it slightly easier to determine what to create. In the back of his mind, he pondered how unwise it might be to make any kind of servicable weapon, even if it did qualify as useful... Perhaps he could make a steel ruler?

GET YOUR HALO DIRTY @tagged After a few more minutes of hearing the teacher drone on about the machines, Vivi decided she was bored. But it wasn't like she could just walk out of class, she had to make the most of it.
The hole drilling thing sounded quicker so Vivi walked toward that machine and waited for Miyamoto to finish up. Once he was done, she poked him as he walked back to his desk.
"Boop~"
If he turned to look, he'd simply see her focusing on the machinery and preparing to go through with her task. Vivi used the drill and created three holes in a line on the material the teacher had directed. Once that was over with, the girl made her way back to her seat and listened to what the teacher had to say next.
