She felt worried.
The door felt a little different, it was like the knob had been cold, or not cold so much as chilling. She felt a tingle down her spine as she opened it up and made her way inside. She had been through a bit of an ordeal over the past few weeks and hadn't really been home much. Mom texted her a few times, the last one had her kind of worried.
When you get home, I left something for you on the counter.
Sarah wasn't sure what it was, but either way she had gone to check it out. She didn't see her mom's keys so she figured she was gone, and it had been quiet when she came in aside from the tv having been left on. She walked over and picked up a paper on the counter, a note that seemed a bit long for what the usual was. Usually it was something along the lines of 'hey sorry about the food situation there's _____ in the fridge now' or something. This one was different.
Sarah,
I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry I couldn't stop him. I'm sorry I wasn't strong enough for you, I couldn't be there for you. I'm sorry that I'm such a shitty mother and I'm sorry that I don't have a better grasp on my life. I want nothing more than to make you proud of me, to show you how much I love you and to give you everything you deserve. I can't. I thought it was your father, him passing away. It wasn't just that though, I've been struggling, really struggling, and I wanted to let you know I'll be checking myself into a clinic. I'm gonna work to make myself better for you. Sorry for all the spelling errors in this, I've had a few more than usual and I'm about to crash. I love you. I'll be better soon, for you.
Sarah crumpled the note, feeling incredibly sad from having read it. She thought she would feel... happy? Maybe a little relieved? But she was doubtful. She made her way to her mother's room to see if she was inside. When the door opened she saw her mom was in bed, passed out from the looks of it. "Mom?" She walked in and shook her a little bit, "Hey mom wake up, I'll get you some water okay?"
She saw something around her mom's mouth, it was a bit crusty and she could smell the sick. "M... Mom?" She got a little louder, shaking her harder, "MOM! MOM! MOM WAKE UP, WAKE UP RIGHT NOW! MOM! THIS ISNT FUNNY WAKE UP!" She shook her a bit hard and stumbled back, grasping for her phone and violently pushing in 9-1-1 on the shitty flip phone.
"I need help! Uhm, it's... it's my mom." She said, gripping her hair and rocking back and forth on the floor of her mother's room. "She... she isn't breathing, she's got stuff in her mouth. Vomit, she has vomit in her mouth and she isn't breathing." The phone call didn't go much longer before she was told to wait for the first responders. It was the firefighters who made it there first, one took her out of the room as the others began trying to save her life. Time went wonky and they asked if Sarah had anyone, any family or friends of the family who could come be with her. She shook her head.
She looked down at her phone, remembering that she had a few people's numbers, friends and the like but she didn't really know them too well, she hadn't really talked to them much. She liked Macht but she was also really scared to message him because of vivi. She was scared to message Vivi because of Macht, she was scared of being alone.
She was taken aside once the EMT's made their way into the apartment as everyone seemed to rush a little slower. They asked when the last she had heard from her mother was, which had been about 8 hours. She was gone, out somewhere most of the night. She wasn't here.
There was talk about having her go with them, about having to figure out somewhere for her to go and once again asking if there was anyone she could go to. She sent out a few texts, seeing if anyone was free.
"She's dead." She said out loud to herself.
You're all on your own now Louie.
Hey here's my address, she started out in a text to both Macht and Vivi, I can't be alone right now. If it doesn't bother you I could use company from either or both of you.
The text was a group one so the two should be able to see that they were both given the same message.
