Has the key really been here all along? I don't know... How I never noticed it..
Siobhan looked up from the dark cage, squinting at the light shining through. Had it always been this bright? Since when did things start to change? She wasn't sure if she wanted things to change anyways. It had always been just fine in this cage. Siobhan had been her own jailer, thrusting herself down into it, suffocating the light so it would never reach her. Someone like her deserved all due punishment for her crimes. At least, that's what she told herself. But somehow, sitting in here with the key hanging heavy on her neck and Shouyo's startling light, the first thoughts of betrayal began to whisper. Will I always have to stay here?
"I'll stay."
Siobhan felt her eyes widen at his reply. That was a promise wasn't it? Shouyo would really stay with her? Siobhan wouldn't- she didn't have to be isolated? She didn't cry, just simply stared at his face for such a long time. She hadn't expected such a selfish request to be granted so simply. Did that mean, that it was actually okay for her to step outside? The idea had never occurred to her, but somehow she wanted to leave so badly. How could she not have noticed that she never wanted to be here in the first place? It was stifling and miserable, Siobhan was lonely and she was just so miserable.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Shouyo Li. I hope to learn more about you."
Siobhan broke her gaze from those silver eyes to look at the hand offered to her. No, she couldn't shake his hand. That would make this a business deal, and she was so tired of bargaining away pieces of herself like stock. The idea of organizing a compromise when it came to who she formed an emotional connection with was so horrifying, she felt herself act on impulse. Rather than shaking his hand, Siobhan grasped his wrist, pulling him closer to her. Standing up, she wound her arms around his neck, hugging him close to her. The contact took her breath away. Is this what it's always supposed to feel like?
"Siobhan Arden. I hope we get along well."

A shadow loomed over Shouyo's as he sat upon the entrance to the cage. Ready to take off again. It was himself, latching onto his back. Like a parasite it began to weigh on him and drag him back down onto the cage. The door was open but was he alright to leave again to experience the world like he used to before. He was okay and ready to cope with the life he had now. Alone he would always stare out into the others who would fend for themselves but still had comrades with him, even in a hell like this. He abandoned it all, that day when he was put on court. He would abandon everything. It was just him now. 'Are you really ready? Go back, it was so much better. Alone. No burdens no hassle. No betrayal.' 'He didn't betray me.' 'Than why are you in here and not him?' 'Because that was my choice, like now.'
Unexpectedly the deal was cut off by the pull of a wrist. Without knowing it he was close, a little too close. But she held onto him with such warmth it was hard to pull away. It was the hand he held before, but the warmth was all throughout his body. It was okay he thought, this wasn't so bad, as long as its her. He was a bit embarrassed, the position was a bit awkward. It has been awhile, for him as well. To have such contact. In his ears the ringing of the piano's keys seemed to leak into his ears again. A soft melody, a duet of two children.
Shouyo gently pulled away and looked at her face. His face remained the same as always. Unlike her no tears, no sign of frustration or embarrassment. Just a few moments of a smirk or a dry laugh. He pulled his glasses away and wiped the lenses, laughing lightly again he put them back on to have a clear view of her face.
"Haha, how troublesome. But it isn't so bad."
Rather then to Siobhan it was as if he was talking to himself. Letting himself know, it was alright. His carefree life was coming to an end. Of course that isn't to say he was gonna start staying awake and stop being lazy. That was who he was he was never going to change. But things around him were changing and in a way himself.
"I don't think I can go to class today anymore..."

Siobhan hadn't expected the dry laughter, but she was relieved she didn't receive rejection instead. When Shouyo had drawn back, she had followed suit, suddenly feeling awkward and slightly cold. The warmth that had embraced her wasn't suffocating, rather it flowed into her veins and reminded her what it was to be human. Siobhan had forgotten that feeling. Briefly, the first whispers of a long-lost muse greeted Siobhan in a breeze of emotion. Was this contentment? It was short-lived and bittersweet, but somehow she felt as if that didn't matter. It wasn't important what came afterwards.
"I don't think I can go to class today anymore..."
Ah, Siobhan as well. Nothing could capture her attention and keep it after what had transpired. Playing a piano and giving a hug for the first time in years, most likely over a decade, Siobhan couldn't imagine anything occupying her mind besides what to do now that she was standing at the edge of her cage. Where would she go? Honestly, she was afraid that if she did take off, she just might find herself lonely again, right at the end of her euphoria. Siobhan looked up to Shouyo's face, feeling a small wry smile of her own on her face. Classes huh? The whole idea of schooling sounded ludicrous at the moment.
"Would you mind if I hung out with you then?"

The sun has moved through the skys, the clouds have shifted, time definitely must have passed. And yet the breeze still felt the same, the dust on the piano seemed to never flutter. Has time shifted at all? But inside this room felt like another dimension. But looking at it now, it was the same classroom he fell asleep in. Looking at under the piano. What a strange place to meet someone for the first time. Under a piano a boy met a girl. Like some kind of bad romance comic. Really. At least now maybe school wouldn't be as bad anymore. It'll be the same. But now he has someone next to him. Just like back in the day, when things were good. If she brought him down to the pits of hell, it'd be okay.
"Haha after all that you still ask?"
He said he'll stay. If she left he would have as well, if she stayed he would have. he didn't want to go to class that was for sure, but he really didn't have anywhere else he really wanted to go. How could he just get up and leave. After promising such things. To break such a thing within seconds would be detrimental to what they've created together.
"Anywhere you'd like to go?"
In all honesty he was pretty drained. He wouldn't have minded it if he could just crawl back under the piano for another afternoon nap, maybe till school ended, then he could regain the energy to do what she wanted. At the same time, he was a little curious about her. The girl who broke through his gates, what kind of person was she? Where did she come from. Her past, present and future. They were all still in the cage.

Siobhan felt a bit dumb for asking the question afterwards. She had just pawned herself over to Shouyo, but was still asking if she could follow him around. The small fragile stasis around them had warmed with the strengthening of their bond. Bond huh? That's a weird word to use. Siobhan wondered if she should use the word trust. They both trusted each other near wholeheartedly. Maybe that was just her. Siobhan herself trusted Shouyo enough to elaborate a bit more on her background if he asked. Their developing relationship was everything she had wanted, but was too afraid to fight for. Her view of the world seemed brighter now that the sky was so close to her. Maybe that's just his presence.
"Anywhere you'd like to go?"
Leave? Siobhan didn't have much of an interest in anything that was outside the music room. There couldn't be anything better than Shouyo underneath a piano and the keys dancing on her fingers. No, she was just fine here. In her opinion, Shouyo could sleep, play music, leave, talk to her, anything he wanted to do. Siobhan was just fine following along. She was okay with not being a leader. Looking at his body, it was a bit obvious in how he slouched that Shouyo most likely didn't want to do anything. That was fine. Siobhan gave him a mischievous side grin, plopping back down on the piano bench.
"Nope. Nothing. Would it be too much trouble to stay here?"

Their meeting was probably fate. For two like them with such broken relationships to meet each other and form a new one just like that. It was fate, and a miracle. But did he trust her? And did she trust him? It felt like those questions were already answered. There was always this unshakeable feeling of doubt and cautiousness whenever Shouyo spoke to anyone at PHS. Even if they had a smile on and would converse with them. Everything always hidden behind people's masks. So ... if possible. Could he trust this face now was hers. If he were to ask, would she continue to smile and show him the same warmth as before.
Staying in the music room didn't seem that bad at all. It was where it all started after all. The warm feeling was still in the air. It could disappear the moment they walked out the door. So Shouyo agreed with a simple nod and leaned back. Using his hands for support he looked at her eyes. It was the best part about her. They really did shine like a gem. Although they made him grin everything he didn't seem to smile this time. He wanted to ask about her, but right now. Was it too much to ask?
"Can I ask...... how.... why you're in PHS...."
A common question when meeting new ones inside the school. Everyone wants to know why everyones in here. Usually its a no big deal question. Some like to push it off as "a long story". But very rarely people really don't tend to talk about it. Siobhan was a little more than secretive about herself. It was the easiest, in his opinion to try and see more about her.

"Can I ask...... how.... why you're in PHS...."
Siobhan hummed to herself, feeling slightly cold when the clouds outside covered the intense sunshine splayed across her thighs. She remembered that day. The smell of dusty dirt and mud formed from blood. Siobhan could feel the smack across her face like it just happened. She wouldn't forget the look of anger and disgust in that teacher's eyes. Yes, she realized that what she had done was despicable, but Siobhan had won. That was all that mattered. Turning back to Shouyo, she gave him a soft smile, one that didn't completely form around her hardened eyes.
"Manslaughter."
She spoke the first word, but then that didn't seem like enough. Manslaughter could be so many things. What, did she have a hit-and-run or was she caught for shooting someone in an alley? Shouyo would have no idea, and leaving things at that would be spitting on their newly formed relationship. So, Siobhan tucked her legs up on the bench, turning to face him completely, holding his gaze with a serious expression. The wind blew in the window; she took a deep breath.
"Boarding school for girls. I transferred in late. No one liked me. I wasn't nice because I had a lot of anger towards my father. I didn't make any efforts to mend the destruction I caused, which gave me a lot of enemies. There was one girl, though, who was the third child of a mobster family my own didn't get along with. She had allied all the girls there to fight me on her command...
I guess one day she got mad that I didn't respond in kind to my cut clothes and stuff being thrown in the pool. So, she grabbed every girl in class and met me in the courtyard. Thirty girls... I don't really remember what happened. Just that in the end, someone was screaming, and I was continuously slamming her head against the concrete. Again. Again. Again. There was no one left to stop me. They weren't moving. Her face was completely shredded, mauled, bleeding. She had stopped moving a long time ago. But I realize that the screaming was in my head because I wanted it all to end."
Siobhan paused finally, looking away from Shouyo finally. The clouds lolled about the sky, and she wished she were there with them.
"Manslaughter. That girl will probably never wake up..."

The clouds shifted, and so did the mood in the air. Unlike Shouyo, Siobhan as in here, for more serious reasons. He looked out the window, it seemed as if they weather was going to turn dramatically in a matter of minutes. Before he could even think further Siobhan muttered a single word that left Shouyo frozen for a second, eyes still plastered to the clouds. It wasn't that he was scared that she was a murderer or anything, what he feared was the face that could have said those words. As he slowly turned he was right, the light smile that appeared sent a chill up his spine. Her eyes hard, vividly remembering the day.
It wasn't a typical run of the mill story from most students he's met. Siobhan was from a whole different league then he was. She wasn't just some delinquent running around the city doing petty crimes and doing the time for them. She had a name, and a family that had a history. But she probably wasn't the pedigree daughter that the family hoped for. She was alone, even before PHS it seemed.
Bullied and rejected. Her story says she didn't really care. They were probably petty rich girls who would use their fathers names to get work done for them. Siobhan... so she was part of a mafia it seemed. Siobhan must've kept her head high and strong even through all of that. And eventually it all came down. 30 girls and she took them all down. Shouyo was a little bit surprised at the story. Even he couldn't take down half that many number of people so readily. As she turned her head Shouyo's eyes softened. He reached for her hand and looked at her averted eyes.
"You really are amazing."

Siobhan waited for Shouyo's next words. And oh so desperately, she tried to the best to prepare for the blow. It was going to hurt and she deserved it. That girl would most likely never wake up from the hospital. Never move again, never visit her family's faces. Siobhan had ruined someone's life, taken their future away over something stupid like class rejection and family pride. She deserved Shouyo's next words, even if they shattered her. It's fine anyways. He's just being honest. I wouldn't want it any different. Honesty was important and Siobhan knew that the truth hurt. It would grasp her heart and squeeze until she gasped.
"You really are amazing."
Siobhan's eyes flew down to his, wide-eyed and shocked. Her throat grew fuzzy, face heating up. Was something wrong with her? She thought she might pass out... Siobhan blinked at Shouyo, trying to understand what he was doing. Amazing? For what? The longer her head tried to figure out what was going on through the building heat, the more disoriented she grew. Hot cheeks, wide eyes, the girl was completely bewildered. And embarrassed. Sure, she had just hugged the guy, but Shouyo was touching her hand. Siobhan tried to rationalize with herself, but the logic was lost in the heat wave.
"A-amazing...? For what?.. I've done nothing worthy of being called amazing..."

The statement probably was quite weird. Who would thing such a act would be seen as something so ... grand? All the eyes that went to Siobhan all her life were of glares and jealously, hatred and anger. Why was it that Shouyo didn't look at her the same way. It wasn't that he lacked basic human morals or lack of sympathy for the dearly departed but he just saw the situation in his own way. To be someone who was hated by the world still stand so strong and walk past scowls from every corner, how was that not amazing? She hated the world and the world seemed to hate her, in most cases those people didn't feel the need to continue on with life. To be able to endure that, even up until now, and be who she is currently sitting in front of him, how was that not incredible.
He wasn't commending her ability to knock 30 or so girls down to their grave either. The condition Siobhan left them in, he couldn't even imagine. When was the weight of another life ever justified? Of course there are many different circumstances to these things, such as ganging up a single girl who refused to respond to their childish behaviors.
"You looked at your enemies in the eye and told them you wouldn't fall to their low behaviors. Being strong like that... I think it's amazing. If that were me, I wouldn't even bother to get out of bed..."
Shouyo took his hand back and let out a small awkward side smile. He wasn't very good at these things. It's been awhile after all. But really he meant it. He shuffled his fingers and looked down a little.
"I'm not saying what you did to those girls were right, but I'm not really saying what you did was unjustifiable... can't really say those girls deserved it but can't really say they were the only victims either."
An odd stream of words just seemed to leak out of Shouyo's mouth, probably just him analyzing the situation. He wasn't really the type to pick sides in such matters, especially if it wasn't really relevant to the present anymore either. But he really didn't like to give concrete opinions on such things either.
"But I do think, your strength through such adversities is .... amazing."

Siobhan stared at Shouyo for a long moment, completely speechless. The words were unlike any she'd ever heard. She remembered the day the papers for her court hearing arrived at her house. That black rage of her father's had brought onto her burns lining down her back. Not from fire, but from sandpaper. The gritty surface had shredded off multiple layers of skin until thin rivulets of blood mapped down the plain of her back. Her father had been furious, but Shouyo was in admiration. Siobhan didn't know which was worse.
"You think, that I too... suffered? I-I have never had anyone tell me that. I mean, it was expected that I just stroll in and hold my head high. I couldn't hide from them. That would be just too cruel to the other people that loved those girls. I'm just some girl who has anger problems, but if I hid from them, that is almost worse than what I did."
Siobhan felt the tears building again and damn it, she said she wasn't going to cry anymore. But her hardened resolve towards the entire situation was fracturing, the tight-capped emotions underneath begging to finally stretch out. But why was it Siobhan? Because she didn't want to kill anyone, this was her punishment? To destroy girls, while they might have been horrid, were too still children just like her. That girl is never going to wake up. And it would be all her fault. Yes, she had suffered too. The pain of her actions still was evident in how she walked. Siobhan carried the weight of thirty conflicted girls, and the regret of a lifetime. I suffered too.
"Yeah.. Thanks Shouyo. I wouldn't have expected anyone to ever say that I have strength for what I've done, but I appreciate it. I did. I suffered. I still do. I'm so sorry, and I can never let them know, because I have to keep up this facade of being strong. But you know what Shouyo? I don't think I'm all that strong at all..."

"If i were you, I'd already given up. No matter what was expected of me."
it was true. When High School rolled by it was time for kids to suddenly decide on their futures and make decisions. Shouyo didn't want to. Well he just wasn't feeling up to the task. His brothers were already far more successful than him. Both parents looked at them with sparkling eyes. It wasn't to say they didn't love Shouyo and didn't expect much from him but there wasn't anything all that special about him to shine like the others. At the courthouse he fell, he was no longer anyone to be looked at with gleaming eyes, he took the hatred and fell. But she didn't.
Siobhan to this carried the heavy weight of 30 lives. Whoever they were they lingered over her. She stood so tall all the time, who would expect someone like that to be walking forward. She took on the hatred because she knew what she did and knew she was held accountable. Such courage and bravery was rare for anyone. There are so many who would hide behind and please not guilty to save their own. Shouyo dug into his pocket and handed her the handkerchief seeing her eyes.
"Here, you can keep it."
He couldn't or wouldn't like to pick sides in such a debate. But he really didn't know those girls. And they all decided to gang up on one girl because she didn't respond to their petty bullying all that well. Although he wasn't from the lower class Shouyo had a dissatisfaction for those who used money to solve every problem.
"... strength comes in a lot of forms. Such mental strength to carry those heavy lives over you and the strength of holding your head high... its all the same. Even things like crying and breaking, that's strength too. So it's okay if you feel like... you can't hold it in."

Ah and now he was giving her the handkerchief. Was Siobhan just that pathetic? No, maybe it was because her tears confused him. Honestly her tears confused herself. Who gave her the right to cry? Mourning for herself was so despicable, so selfish. Taking the handkerchief from Shouyo, she pressed it against her eyes in hopes of stopping the water trying to spill out. No Sia, you don't deserve these tears. Stop it. Siobhan takes a deep breath, composing herself before looking back up at Shouyo as he continues on.
"... Strength comes in a lot of forms. Such mental strength to carry those heavy lives over you and the strength of holding your head high... its all the same. Even things like crying and breaking, that's strength too. So it's okay if you feel like... you can't hold it in."
Why was he so nice to her? Siobhan didn't deserve kindness. He should be angry at her. Everyone else was angry, why was he not angry too? It made it so much more difficult to keep her emotions under control. Siobhan tried to dab at the corners of her eyes with the handkerchief, but by now the tears came with her heaving chest. She really couldn't continue holding it in. Everyday she arrived at the school she was reminded why she was there. Shouyo didn't have to do this. But he was. And Siobhan was eternally grateful.
"I-I'm sorry. This is embarrassing. Thinking that it's okay to cry and make others pity you, that never seemed like strength to me. You shouldn't have to see me so weak. If you think that's strength, well, I can't complain. Not when I'm just so grateful that you're here, Shouyo."

(ooc: I'm so sorry for the late reply! Been at school and work morning to night ;;; )
Even now, she was still closing up. Why wouldn't she. Tears, sadness, trust, nowadays they were all considered traits of weakness. Maybe even still she didn't feel all that comfortable with Shouyo, the trust was still lingering after all. Even if both of them trusted each other right now, it was all mostly trial runs. They've merely just met after all. Under that piano of all places. The past slowly revealed themselves to eachother. Both took first steps to human interaction once more. Small baby steps. Which were after all still better than nothing.
His kindness wasn't anything out of sympathy or favoritism. To Shouyo it wasn't kindness as all. it was all merely himself. What he said to her was what he really believed in. The words he spoke were his own, and unaltered to make her happy or sympathize with her situation or what she's been through. To tell lies like that to sugar coat whats going on wasn't Shouyo's cup of tea per say. Why lie about things. Being blunt was one of Shouyo's negative traits but Siobhan didn't seem to take any of his words negatively. Which is why he could let her through his doors.
"You're not weak. And I don't pity you. Whatever is strength to me or weakness to you. That all doesn't really matter. As long as you're yourself... I'll be here."
He still didn't know all that much about her. Merely assumptions and guesses from what she's told him. Difference in views and opinions. They were two that came from complete different ends of a spectrum. But where that spectrum sat upon was the betrayal or people and heavy mistrust. Maybe that's why it was like fate for them to meet.

OoC: I had a long hiatus and recently got active again! No idea if you want to continue this or not, let me know!
Siobhan felt blindsided, stripped from the barriers that had held the girl together. No matter what, she believed that as long as she was resolute, the storm would pass. Too taught to even feel the rain on her skin, her body was huddled in a tight ball, waiting for when her life would finally run out of minutes, and the last wave drew back. But here stood this boy, with a complete clarity in his eyes, declaring that as long as Siobhan continued to be herself, not the fabrication of her father or ghost of her mother, he would always be there. A presence that held more reassurance than any praise her father had given her. A promise with more weight than her guilt.
"With me? I'm stubborn you know. I argue and turn bitter. I'm not the kind of girl that people go out of their way for."
Siobhan laughed with her comment, but it was forced. She knew that Shouyo was completely serious and honest. It was terrifying. How could someone be so earnest about such a topic like matters of the heart? Siobhan couldn't comprehend it. Her tears had dried up as a more serious, somber look came over her face. Emotions aside, there was confusion left in her mind. While her heart continued to sing the melody of the piano, her soul whispering a light, "Welcome home.", Siobhan knew that as she always did, there would have to be something to prove to her that Shouyo did understand. A girl like her was a package deal, never without triumph would there be despair.
Most importantly, people like Siobhan didn't get happy endings.
