Musashi loved how no matter what she loved to belittle situations like the one that they were in. Perhaps that was her way of coming up with excuses for not wanting to express her true emotions. Whatever the reason was he accepted her anyways. After all it was that part about her personality that made her most interesting. The Hattori hoped that things continued to be complicatedly good between throughout the duration of the school year. Tonight would be there first chance to see how they would truly mesh together. He wondered what would happen once he ordered the food. Was she going to get what she ordered and then head back into her room, or was she going to eat with him together in the living room.
He definitely hoped that it was the second option. It would be a sad night indeed if she left him hanging as if nothing 'special' happened between the two of them. However, something like that seem to make a lot of sense for a girl with a personality like hers. After letting her in the room she mentioned taking a shower which was definitely a good idea. He didn't want to keep the sweat on his body any longer than he had to. The longer he kept on his sweaty cloths the more likely he was to smell and he didn't her to ever see him like that. "Great idea, I guess I'll do the same." The Hattori watched the girl as she headed into her room thinking about how amazing the day was going so far.
As Musashi walked into his empty unpacked room he thought about what food she was going to try to order. Was she going to be fancy? Or was she going to order the norm that was Chinese food. That was an option you could never go wrong with. Either way he would go with whatever she wanted to eat. After all if he did she was more likely to stick around for most of the night. The Hattori walked into his bathroom and would begin to start cutting the shower on. In the background he could here Mackenzie talking aloud. The thought of hearing her voice made him smile. He wondered why there was something special about her. As of late he had been experience more encounters with girls so he knew that wasn't it.
Something inside his gut was telling him that there was going to be more to this than meets the eye, but he couldnt' quite put his finger on it yet. He continued to ponder as he took of his shirt and everything else he had on before going into the shower. The hot water felt so good as it graced his soft yellow skin. "If I would have known that being out on my own could be like this I would have done this years ago." The Hattori would cooed. After a couple of minutes of being in the shower the Hattori would shut it off and headed back into his bedroom. "Now I'm going to need some cloths." Opening up one of the boxes he would pull out a pair of black undies, Red basketball shorts, and black socks to wear around the house. "This should do."
"I Hope you didn't say anything to me while you was in there Mackenzie! I just got out of the shower. So have you decided what you wanted to eat?"
He'd say aloud to the girl from across the building they were in just loud enough for her to here. The Hattori then would walk into the living room, leaning against the wall not realizing he didn't put a shirt on. He was accustomed to dressing like that in his house at home and didn't think to consider that he was now living with another woman that wasn't his mom.

Mack figured you could get a lot of Chinese food, and she needed to eat… like… a lot tonight. She began furiously writing in the notes app on her iPhone what she wanted to order. Her fingers tapped away so fast it was a wonder they were’t on fire! Dumplings, spring rolls, and fried shrimp, they could share those. For her main, lots of special fried rice! Or did she want chow mien? Nah, fried rice it was. She finished typing and then made a space so that he could enter what she wanted. Once she was done with that she was sort of left laying on the couch with her thoughts again. Her arm fell to her side, and she momentarily closed her eyes as everything she had said to him read through her mind like a script.
‘You’re alright, I suppose'
What an understatement… and maybe it had even hurt his feelings. But what was she to say? Honestly she was properly messing with his head with what she was doing now. Because she hadn’t shut him out, like she should have done, and yet at the same exact time she had not let him in either. “Keh…” She breathed and frowned deeply up at the ceiling as if it had offended her. Today had really been surreal. She could blame the lowering of her guard on tiredness, of course, but secretly she knew there was more too it than that. It was like she was baiting him to keep trying. Maybe… letting someone else in wouldn’t be so bad. She didn’t HAVE to tell him about who she was in the past, but she could still admit that being with him today had made her really quite happy. Truly happy. Not the kind of bubbly hyper happy that she was most of the time.
And he seemed to like her to. He kept dropping hints, and a couple of times he had downright admitted it. Heck, living with her had to be tiering, and yet somehow she’d found someone who actually welcomed it! She sighed loudly and sat up on the couch again. Take it day by day. She thought to herself You are over thinking the shit out of this.
Suddenly she heard the shower stop and a door open and figured Musashi was going into his bedroom to change. She heard him call out and she grinned “Hell yeah I have!” She called back to him, opening her phone again “That’s if you like chinese?” Surely he did, EVERYONE liked chinese food. How could she go wrong. She looked up to see him in the door frame, causally leaning against it without a shirt. If she was honest with herself, she definitely thought something along the lines of Dayum, and her heart did start to beat a little faster, but NO WAY would she ever admit to that.
“Woah baby, if we’re gonna play strip poker, I’m going to need some booze and some dinner first.” She smirked at him “Or are you just trying to impress me?” She winked at him and then continued, "And to think I thought you were a gentleman all this time! I’m shocked!” her voice was laced with sarcasm and she melodramatically looked away from him and gestured with her hand on her forehead like she was going to faint. Breaking out of that almost immediately after she laughed loudly as she stood up from the couch with her phone. Sure it was distracting, but Mack had lived with a guy before who used to just not give a shit about the fact that she was a girl who was living there with him. She was used to it really, but she had a feeling Musashi hadn’t realised that he was shirtless, so a little teasing was necessary here.
Once her laughter had died down a little she walked towards him and hand him her phone “I’ve removed my password for now so just open up notes and what I want is written there, I chose a bunch of little stuff to share but if you don’t like them don’t order.” She grinned and casually stretched as she walked into the bathroom “Alright, I’m going in, feel free to order, and ya-know, put some clothes on, whatever you feel like!” She giggled again and stepped into the bathroom, looking forward to getting rid of her sweaty clothes and stepping under the shower.

"Chinese is perfect actually."
A smile appeared on the face of the Hattori at the thought of having Chinese food, and even better he was going to be having Chinese food with her. He of course wasn't going to speak any of those thoughts out loud. After responding to her he would notice a unusual look on the face of his new roommate. He wondered exactly why she was looking the way she did. From the looks of it the Hattori had nothing to worry about. That is until she opened her mouth to say something. Oh no! No shirt! His eyes widen as he begin to start rubbing over his torso realizing that he didn't have on a shirt.
Musashis face begin to turn read as she mentioned the mere idea of him trying to impress her. Of course he wasn't trying to do such a thing. That was something he was trying to do earlier in the day. This was just a flat out mistake. Not to mention the dramatic act she was putting on, but he loved when she acted that way, it was truly adorable. After watching her do all that he begin to start feeling a little more comfortable. He couldn't let her have the upper hand in this situation. So the Hattori decided to own up to his mistake like a man. "Strip poker? And I thought 'I' was the bad one here." He'd joke with her trying to flip the script on her after her sarcastic comment to him. "I only forgot my shirt because I'm use to dressing like this at home, but you don't seem to have a problem with it."
The Hattori spoke, his head turning his attention toward the sealing of the area as if he wasn't bothered by the things that she said earlier. Way to recover Musashi!. After all the fiasco had ended the girl would stand up from off the couch and would approach him with her phone. He wondered why she was giving him that, but she would go on to explain so without ever needing him to ask. She had already made a list of the stuff that she was going to get for herself. From the look of everything that was on the list the girl had an extremely powerful appetite. After handing him the phone the girl would scurry off back to her room, but not after making another smart remark toward him.
"Hmmm, I'll think about it."
The Hattori would say jokingly to her as she scurried off back into her room to shower. He wondered if there was going to be any bloopers in her wardrobe. The Hattori slapped his forehead for thinking such a thought. "Sigh.... Alright, I think I know what I want." Whenever he got Chinese food Musashi always ordered the house friend rice. That was a big plate of rice with shrimp, chicken, and beef inside of it. It was the best of all three worlds and he ordered it every time without fail. He thought that this might be a good time to try something new, but he felt like he had enough new for one day. With that in mind he typed in his order along with his debit card information and would complete the order.
After doing that he would head back into his room with her phone and would get a red tank top out of the box before realizing what she said about her phone being unlocked. "Of course." The Hattori cooed. The first thing he did was look into her pictures as he walked back out into the living room and sat on the couch. A smile would appear on the face of the Hattori as he scrolled through countless beautiful pictures of his roommate. Each one making his heart race faster than the one before it. She was so beautiful. It was something about the way she looked, the faces that she made that made him want to smile all the time. He'd continue looking through her photos until she got back into the living room.

( Very long post but I figured it’d help you to know what exactly was in her photo album so that is what the last few paragraphs entail! ) Mack enjoyed their banter, especially flirty banter. She enjoyed it even more when the one she was talking to was able to respond quickly. Musashi had certainly made a good save. “It’d be too bad for you if we played, Musashi. You’re talking to a poker champion, But I suppose your imagination will paint a different story no matter what I say” She had replied before disappearing into the bathroom. She turned on the shower, stripped down to nothing and waited a moment for the water to heat up again. Stepping under the hot shower was blissful. She felt her sore muscles relax under the hot water and for a short while she just stood there under the stream without actually washing. What a day! She imagined, for a moment, that she was back home. She remembered all her old friends.
Thinking about them actually made her quite upset. There were plenty of fun times she could remember… but thinking about it, they hadn’t known the first thing about her. And she had treated them like conveniences. A place to stay, a party to enjoy, a sparring match or a…
Or a run across the rooftops.
And in the end… they’d left her to the sharks. Not one of them tried to protect her. As well they shouldn’t have. What had she really expected? She didn’t know how to make connections with people like that. Really, she should be working to change that about herself so she didn’t end up like that again.
“All jokes aside, as long as your my roommate, 'and' friend, I promise to never let anything happen to you.”
Musashi’s words entered her head again in that moment. She realized she had actually been clenching her fist. How could he mean that? How could he mean this just moments after he met her. And he’d said it without any expectancy of the same kind of loyalty or attitude from her towards him. She couldn’t understand it. Even her parents, her own flesh and blood had never said anything remotely similar.
Mack opened her fist slowly and took a breath. She this really wasn’t a good time to be doing this to herself. Actually she really wanted to enjoy herself tonight. This didn’t have to be anything heavy yet. They were just two people, enjoying one another’s company. Trying to clear her mind of everything, she focused her thoughts on what she was doing. She washed herself, shampooed and conditioned her hair and then finally stepped out of the shower. Wrapping herself in a towel and using another one to dry her hair, Mack made her way into her bedroom. She changed quickly into a pair of PJ shorts and a baggy shirt and returned to the livingroom. “Sorry Musashi, looks like I remembered my shirt!” She said as if she hadn’t just been thinking about the most shameful parts of her life in the shower just now.
Of course she couldn't have known what musashi had been looking at. She hadn’t taken a picture in a very long time and honestly she had no idea what was still sitting on this phone she’d had since before she ran away from her parents home when she was younger. They painted a pretty good picture of her life. The earliest were never of her with her parents. There were a few of her at gymnastics competitions, or getting awards. The one picture on their of her family was one she’d obviously tried to spring upon her mum randomly. Mack was smiling but her mother looked rather pissed off at having been dragged into the frame. Moving on there were a few pictures her friends had taken, and plenty of selfys taken in other peoples houses, stupid pictures of her and her friends at the time. She looked happy enough in all of them.
Later on they tuned into rather more accurate description of how she’d been living. Mack getting a tattoo on her shoulder, Mack drinking, smoking playing drinking games, even pictures of various ‘war wounds’ she had obtained from brawls. Plenty of her training to become a free runner, in fact that is what took up most of her space. There were many videos of her training in all of it’s various stages. She’d placed her phone down and filmed herself. One or two of them she had failed, and there was a couple of some of her most intense falls.
Musashi was lucky in that Mack very rarely thought to delete stuff on her phone, even stuff she didn’t want. She had an incredible storage capacity after all. But there was one particular video she had made sure to delete. Unfortunatly it was still sitting in a pesky little folder called ‘recently deleted’. She had no idea that folder existed. The video read that it was to be permanently deleted from the phone in one day meaning it had been about 28 days since she’d deleted it. If opened the viewer would see a shaky video of a teary-eyed Mack, shrouded in darkness so one could not see exactly where she was. “If you find this, then know that I was killed by Robina.. Sparrow. She leads a gang called… You can find her at…” There were incomprehensible parts of the video where she had accidentally covered the microphone with her thumb and the sound became muffled. In the video her lip was split, one of her eyes were puffy and there were noticeable trails of dried blood down from her hairline. The video was only about 15 seconds long but it was intense. Something she wanted gone.

"Wow, your one adventurous ass girl Mackenzie."
The Hattori said aloud to himself as he continued to scroll through her phone like a kid. There was so many things in her pictures that told the story of why she was the way she is. In her phone he could see pictures of her in gymnastic which explained why the girl was so athletic. Gymnast were some of the most brilliant athletes in the world. The Hattori had to admit that there was a time when he was a kid that he also wanted to be a gymnast, but his father of course didn't approve. The only thing he wanted him to do was focus on his home schooling and practicing ninjutsu so that when he got older he could participate in the 'family business'. As he got older he begin to understand what that meant and could only imagine what his life was like if he stil lived down there.
After seeing a couple of her gymnastic photos of her receiving awards and such he'd begin to go through her photos looking for images of her parents. In the picture he could see a extremely happy Mackenzie, but her mom looked as if she didn't care at all for it. The Hattori felt for the girl. If there was one thing Musashi never experienced growing up was missing out on the love of his mother. It was the reason why deep down he was so sensitive. His father was always the strict one and reframed from showing him any physical, and even sometimes mental love. The only reason why he felt a connection to his father was because that his mom constantly reminded him that he loved he and his brother very much. Not to mention he looked just like him.
In her photos were also videos of her free running back home where she was from it. It was amazing, it was like he was in a movie theater that was about her life. After every picture or video he scrolled by he begin to feel just a little more attach to her. She was such a awesome person. He wondered what could have possible happened back home to bring her to such a horrible place. She had pictures with friends, she was getting Tattoos. Other than the odd picture of her and her mom everything seemed like it was fine. I dont get it, what could have happened to this girl. The Hattori thought to himself as he attempted to exit out her pictures after scrolling through everything to see that there was something in the deleted section.
"Man.. This is so wrong.. But I just have to know."
The Hattori cooed before going into the file and seeing that there was only one day left on it. "Perfect timing." Musashi looked around to see if she was coming, but realized that she was still in the shower. Immediately the Hattori would open up the video to see something that was probably going to haunt him. "What... What the hell is this." He muttered to himself as his eyes begin to widen and his heart begin to race. "You have been what?!" He whispered aloud to himself letting his body drop back to the back of the couch. The Hattori would find that his hands, and the rest of his body were shaking as he held his hand up to his face. "She almost.. Died, that's why shes here." The very thought of losing her was killing Musashi inside.
Shes still alive.
Shes here with me.
He'd tell himself constantly trying to get himself to calm down. She moved here because she had gotten into some trouble and had no choice but to move away. What was left of his logical mindset was sure that there was more to it, but for now that was all he had. Immediately after the video cut off he could here the door to her room opening. He immediately went to the video and deleted it permanently so that she could not see if for herself in the case that she was unlucky as he was. The second she got back into the room she made a joke in reference to what he said before she left to take a shower. "Ah, dont worry, What you have on right now is enough for me." He'd respond jokingly to the girl with a smile on his face as he looked down at her pj shorts. If the girl payed any attention t the Hattori she would see that his eyes were watery.
If there was anything that video did to him, it was going to make sure that no matter what that he looked out for her. No matter what happened between them after tonight. He was always going to be there for her. She had no, and now he was going to make sure that she had someone. Shaking his head and rubbing his eyes the Hattori would stand up from off the couch with a grin on his face. "So what should we do now until the food arrives? I'm thinking strip poker?" The Hattori would say to her trying to take his mind off what happened while also making sure she didn't notice anything different about him. He wasn't going to ruin her night by bringing that back up.
It was going to be his own secret from now on. That was all in the past and he was going to make sure that this night was fun, and that the rest of her life around him would be as well. She was too amazing and had gone through enough as it was. He'd spend the rest of the night trying to make sure she had the best first night in there new home. "So how bout it?" He'd say jokingly to the girl laughing.

Of course he responded right away with another tat in their constant tit for tat exchanged, but for some reason Mack felt like something was a little off about him for a moment. Her smiled faded and she squinted at him. His eyes seemed a little glassy. Like tears had been about to spill over. It was only there for a split second, before he seemed to compose himself properly. But Mack knew that trick. She did the same thing, covering it up with some joke and a cheesy grin when she didn’t feel like spilling whatever was plaguing her. “Oh is it now? Teehee, I dressed up just for you!” She twirled a strand of her blond locks around her fingers and put on a girly, bashful voice, again laced with sarcasm. But that look nagged in the back of her mind. She shouldn’t ask, right? She was dying to know what on earth could be wrong but he obviously didn’t want to talk about it. He was trying to distract her, and she was going along with it, but she wasn’t being fooled by it.
Her mind exploded with possibility, but she was totally stumped! What on earth could have happened in the past 15 minutes that had brought this guy close enough to tears that it actually showed. She moved closer to him almost subconsciously, trying to study his face closer. As if trying to counter this, Musashi would stand up, rubbing his eyes and shaking his head. When he was done, his expression was so flawlessly happy-go-lucky that for a brief moment she thought she must have been imagining it.
No. No I SAW it, what on earth happened!? Do I want to know? YES I WANT TO KNOW!
But why? Was it because she was curious or was it genuinely because she cared? Moreover, why did the idea of caring worry her so much? Was she falling into old habits? The jokes kept on coming from his mouth, and naturally, she would respond, but there was something a little less enthusiastic than usual about her response. “Psh, You have no idea what ypur getting yourself into. Didn’t I already tell you I’m ace at poker? You’d be the only one stripping! Believe me!” She grinned and chuckled, as per usual. She wasn’t even bluffing, and the idea of actually playing him in poker was starting to distract her thoughts a little bit. “Or don’t, that’s cool too” She said confidently crossing her arms over her chest and smirking.
But she still couldn’t shake the feeling that this moment now seemed very fake to her. They were both ignoring their feelings currently and hiding behind smiles. Surely it must be serious if he had gotten that shaken up. She had to ask, she couldn’t help it, it was making her worried. And that was a fairly new feeling to her when it came to other people. Removing her hands from her chest she sighed a little and looked up at him “Alright, I can’t take it anymore. Something happened, right?” She asked him meeting his eyes again “I mean, I’m not demanding you tell me or anything… I guess I’m just putting it out there… you can… talk to me, or whatever… I’ve heard it helps… some people.” This all sounded so awkward coming from her mouth. She really did not know how affection worked, and she was so stiff that he might even believe that she wasn’t even being genuine with him. She scratched the back of her head anxiously and tried again “I mean… I’m here for you…. Or whatever.” God that sounds even worse! Cut it with the ‘or whatever’, North! She looked at him helplessly and then tried one last time “I just mean, if something is bothering you, Maybe I can help… or at least just listen.” It was more than anyone had ever done for her. She vaguely remembered her Gymnastics teacher making an attempt once, although she just as much of a hard-ass, meaning it sounded even more awkward than Mack’s attempt. Still, she hoped her efforts hadn’t just made things worse. She sighed, annoyed at her lack of knowledge in this area of friendships.
Wait
Wait!
Did he still have her phone? Her eyes flicked down to the small devise in his hand. Had he looked through her shit? As annoyed as that made her, surely there wasn’t too much in there that could really hint at anything THAT bad. Right? Maybe it wasn’t even that. Maybe it was just a coincidence he happened to be holding it and this was something completely different. Either way she frowned, purposefully walked towards him and took the phone from his grasp. She waited for him to comment on this before she said anything. I don’t really know what’s going on yet, but something… is off.

"Oh really? How thoughtful are we."
He'd say to the girl as she got into her her bashful and girly routine. He loved it when she started acting like that. There was something about that part of sarcasm that always put a smile on his face. And after what he had just saw he was going to need plenty more of it. For now he would try to enjoy everything amazing about her until he was able to get over what he saw he the video. After all she was still alive and well, and hanging with him. As long as she was with him she was going to be safe. He'd make sure of that. After the girls response Musashi was sure that the rest of the night was going to go as planned.
She even continued to carry the conversation by bringing up the poker comment he mentioned earlier. That was a game he would make sure to never play her in. He was sure that she was a pro at it, not to mention he had only played that game one time in his entire life. He could barely even remember how to play it himself. "Yeah you right, but I think you would enjoy seeing me strip anyways." Musashi loved swapping sarcasm with the girl. She was probably one of the most sarcastic people he'd had ever met since moving to New York. After his response the Hattori would just watch the blonde hair beauty as she crossed her arms. He loved it when she did that. It was the cutest thing ever.
So far everything seemed to be going well despite the fact that there was a slight pause between the two of them. Her face begin to start looking like she was curious about something. He hoped that she hadn't noticed anything was wrong with him. The Hattori figured she hardly probably paid any attention to him so everything had to be well right? In the coming seconds the Hattori would realize how wrong he was. The girl would start questioning him about what was wrong with him. He thought about lying to her, but the way she was looking and talking to him made him think that she was actually concerned for his well being.
Shes... Really concerned?
The Hattori questioned as he begin to start focusing reluctantly on the girl. He could tell that through her help that she was trying to hide back some of her concerns for him. He wanted to tell her what was wrong, but he couldn't ruin the rest of the night, but he also wanted to be able to earn her trust. What was the Hattori going to do now? Your here.. For me? The boys heart begin to start racing as if someone had just injected adrenaline inside of him and someone he cared abouts life was in danger. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. He waited patiently to hear if she was going to take it back with sarcasm, but the girl wouldn't.
The Hattori paused for a moment, looking away from the girl thinking about what to do. He wanted to be honest with her, but he didn't want to lie either. So he figured the only way for this night to not go bad was for him to be the bigger person and get everything off his chest about today. With that he could maintain his honor by telling her his true feelings of how today went without lying to her. "Fine..." The Hattori muttered to himself before standing up and taking a few steps closer to the girl, but not that close. At least a good 3 feet away from her. At that point the girl would go over and take the phone away from him. "I---" From the Heart Musashi.. The Hattori thought to himself before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.
"Today was one of the most amazing days of my entire life. I've never felt this way before, like ever.. I have so many emotions swelling up inside me that I don't even know what to do.... I... I've never even really been around a girl before. And then here you come along with your sarcasm, and your smart mouth, and you trying to hide your feelings around your jokes.. But at the same time I love that part about you, it gets me excited every time you speak. I love how surprisingly athletic you are, and I love how after just one day of being with you that your already challenging me as a person. I love it when you cross your arms and pout, or when you hold your hands on your hips when your about to scold me for something."
"I also think that your the most beautiful person I've ever seen.."
After saying all that he had to say the Hattori looked down and away from the girl. His heart was racing and it was killing him that he said all of that. She was probably going to leave him hanging, but he couldn't let her know what he saw so he figured he might as well keep telling her how he felt. "I know this is all sudden, but I promise you that your life here wont be anything like your past... I don't care if its just been one day, I promise to be here for you no matter what. I'll do whatever it takes to earn your trust, and no matter what.... I'll always protect you." The Hattori honestly meant everything he said to her, hopefully felt some what the same as he did.
This is going to end bad isn't it.... Man this is embarrassing.

Confusion, and anxiousness crept inside her as he stepped towards her and prepared to begin speaking. She watched him mutter to himself and the tightness in her chest increased. She watched as he took a deep breath and closed his eyes, and she could feel a weight on her chest. And then he began speaking, and it was like everything she had believed within herself, that she deserved to be alone, that she needed to keep everyone at arms length, that no one could possibly mean it when they said they liked her anyway, was shattering like a glass carelessly dropped to the floor. And now there was still confusion and anxiousness, but there were also so many other feelings. And they were feelings she couldn’t explain because she had honestly never felt them before. Her face red shock, and her eyes itched with tears that threatened to spill over onto her cheeks. Her legs didn’t seem enough to support her anymore, her knees felt weak.
What had happened? What had happened between when she had gone into the shower and now to make him suddenly say all of this? How could he be so emotional and sensitive and willing to say such things to her, to commit to something as breakable and fragile as a bond? She was so different. She had not grown up with any sort of love or affection, and it had really fucked her up more than she let on, because this, right now, was terrifying. And she did not know why it was terrifying. Allowing herself to bond, and get emotionally invested in another person felt like gambling with her own security, her own happiness. But regardless she felt a kind of aching in her chest for him even though right now she didn’t quite understand it. And within that sea of turmoil inside her head, she knew that she couldn’t bear to ever lose him now. He had become precious to her.
There was anger within her too. She could feel it swelling amidst everything else. But it was misplaced in this situation because she wasn’t angry at Musashi. She was angry at herself for not being able to say what she truly felt right now, and she was angry at herself for being so fucked up that she could never give him what he really needed in a friend or in a lover. It had been hard for her even to ask him what was troubling him. She couldn’t see herself holing someone’s hand, or being romantic or affectionate, or considerate. She was good at telling jokes, she wasn’t good at much else when it came to people.
She had a hard time being real with someone, or truly taking into account their feelings. She was truly selfish, and uncaring with others, and that had almost killed her once. And it wasn’t that she wanted to be that way, it had always just been the way she had been taught. Her parents taught her that winning was everything, and that you’re self worth was measured by how successful you were. Mother taught her never to let anyone see her cry, because she should never be a burden. And Mack had always been so afraid of burdening her parents. Her existence seemed like a burden sometimes. It still seemed that way sometimes.
She couldn’t imagine loving, having never been loved.
His next words immediately jumped out at her and for some reason she decided to let anger be what she showed him “What the hell do you know about my past?” This was the first thing she said to him and she hated it. She hated it and she hated herself but she kept going on. Angry tears spilled over but she swatted them away immediately hating that she’d let them fall “You don’t want someone like me that close to you! You want someone normal and loving and affectionate and-“ She shook her head stopping and taking a breath “Don’t think that you can get into my head that easy with some pretty fucking words!”
Mack looked shocked at her own words. She was intentionally hurting him to spite him for having SUCH a radical effect on her. But why was she hurting the first person to ever want to protect her? Twice he’d told her now, that he would never let anything happen to her. But for the longest time she let the silence drag on, without taking it back or apologizing to him.
This was why everybody had left her to die.
“I’m so sorry!” She blurted it out suddenly after everything became too much “I didn’t mean that I-“ She sagged her shoulders and sighed “You are the first person ever to say things like that to me, literally the first. So I’ll tell you…” Don’t hate me… She asked him silently in her head. “I really like you… or whatever.” She shook her head, sniffed and looked up at him “Lets just… not get to complicated here."

Post by Musashi Hattori on Jul 31, 2015 0:15:41 GMT -5
The Hattori waited as judgement day, or more like judgement seconds were merely upon him as he waited for a response from the girl. All he could think about was how bad he messed up, and how stupid he was for putting his emotions out there like that. It was only the first day and he was saying all of this already. Such a fool he thought he was. Especially after she told him how difficult her life was. There was no way she would just let some stranger into her life, but mistakes like this were bound to happen when you lacked experience in certain areas. The Hattori begin to regret his immediate response to everything that happened today.
This was someone who he was going to have to live with for the remainder of the school year. There was going to be no getting away from this moment. The Hattori dropped his head down to the floor as he begin to accept what was about to happen from here on out. He truly didn't regret what he said, in all honesty he just regretted his terrible timing, but he figured it was better than then telling her what he had just saw moments ago. No matter what she said the Hattori would still hold on heavily to his words. He would make sure to care for her, even if she didn't want him to. Even if he had to do it from the shadows he would be there for her because there was something about her that no one would ever know, or understand like he would.
Here it all goes.
The Hattori thought to himself looking up as he could see all the emotions starting to build up within the girl. He could tell because that's how his mom use to look after his dad came home from a long day of 'work'. The Hattori closed his eyes as she began to start scolding him for not knowing about her past. She was so upset now that she was crying out angry tears. His heart begin to feel heavy, and his mind begin to feel weak as she continued to yell at him. All the Hattori could think about was how painful the feeling of heart break was. He couldn't imagine how hard it could have been for his mother after losing her husband.
The Hattori wanted to cut her off and tell her that she was wrong for saying that he didn't want to be close to her. He would give every ounce of what he had just to get the chance to be close to her. He didn't care about all of her flaws, he accepted them for who she was. In fact he liked some of her flaws. It made him laugh, and it unlocked parts of his personality that he didn't even know existed. It hurt the Hattori hearing her say something as stupid as he just wanted a normal girl. Well to him she was that normal girl. Anything that was the norm was weird to Musashi. He wanted someone with unique qualities and she had all of that plus more.
The Hattoris head dropped back to the floor as she scolded him for throwing 'pretty words' at her. It sadden him to know that she didn't believe any of it. Maybe everything was just too good to be true. There was no way something this amazing could ever happen to people, or himself. That's why his mom lost his dad. Maybe his brother was right, maybe the only way to live life was by being selfish or something. Honestly his brother never said such things, but he always gave that vibe off when he addressed people. He was cold, but perhaps being cold was most appropriate so you never had to feel the pain that he was about to experience for the first time.
And then out of nowhere the girl would apologize to him. The Hattoris head immediately lifted from the floor as if his head was being magnetized. Shes sorry? I... I dont get it? The Hattori thought back to himself as he tried thinking back to some of his mothers advice. She wasn't done there either. She was doing something he didn't expect her to do for a long time. Mackenzie was opening up to him. He wanted to cut in and say something, but he didn't know whether or not she was done talking to him yet.
“I really like you… or whatever.”
Everything about life stopped moving for a moment as he looked into her eyes. It was as if he was dead, and had been risen back to life. All within just a few moments. He felt like having a heart attack, but there was no way he could die after she said something like that, but that moment would be short lived as well. “Lets just… not get to complicated here." The heart of the Hattori would go into a neutral state after she said that. What was he supposed to say from here? He couldn't tell if she liked him or if she hated him. He was so confused, but he knew he had to step up and say something to her.
"I like you too... And I'm sorry for getting ahead of myself... I just.... How about we just--"
Before he could say anything someone started knocking on the door. "Oh, I guess I should get that." He'd say as he slowly walked to the door and opening it to see it was the Chinese delivery place. The Hattori put on a fake smile, and gladly accepted the food before giving the Asian kid a ten dollar tip. "Foods here." The Hattori walked into the living room area and placed the food on the table before facing Mackenzie. "I Just... Don't want this amazing night to end.." He'd say staring deeply into her eyes. He didn't know what else to say or do, so he would trust that she would. If there was anything to take away from all this it was the fact that she liked him, 'or whatever.' It rung through his ears constantly as he looked at her waiting to see what the fate of tonight would be.

I am such an asshole! I am the worst!
She watched his face change as she yelled at him, as she disregarded everything he had said. He looked like a depressed puppy, ears drooping and all. She used people like punching bags when she was upset. And she wasn’t even upset at him, this was all directed at herself. She came off as so super confident and comfortable in her own skin. It was a lie, but what was the alternative? To walk around moping, begging for attention? What was it about this guy that could affect her norms so drastically? She had never come across anyone like him. Looking at her face it was as if her words were like punches. The atmosphere between them was uncomfortable now, and it was all her fault. Here he was pouring his heart out. She supposed people back home that she knew weren’t quite as emotional. It was much easier not to get close to them because it took some effort getting through to their hearts. Musashi, however, he was an open book. And she loved that. She got this warm fluttery feeling in her chest whenever he smiled at her.
Many times he looked like he was about to cut in. Once, when she was talking about herself, and how she wasn’t normal, and how he should just go for someone else. Someone more like him. But then she moved on into her angry attack, and his eyes shot to the ground again. He’d taken yet another blow. Anger was her second defense mechanism when joking around and flirting failed, or when she couldn’t bring herself to make a joke. But she regretted it as soon as she said it. That was why she had apologized, although that made him seem even more confused than before. When she admitted that she liked him, hope seemed to light in his eyes again, and then, the third blow, and she crushed it underfoot again.
The worst… I am the worst human being.
She continued to fall apart inside. She stood stiffly and quietly as he mumbled ‘I like you too.’ And began to try and amend the situation. There was a knock on the door and he scuttled off to collect the food that He’d bought for her.
Fuck I am a monster, aren’t I?
She thought to herself as he moved over to the table to place the food down. She felt tears welling up again in her eyes, and then he turned to look at her, and to stare into her eyes and she dug what little nails she had into her hands to bite down on her tears which were getting out of control. She took a deep breath. She had to fix this. She couldn’t go on being such a selfish asshole forever to protect herself. If she got hurt again, it might destroy her all together but Musashi was worth the gamble. “Musashi… Uh… Obviously… I ruined this whole night for you.” He voice was rather shaky “And, I’m a complete asshole, and a coward, because… I mean it. I don’t know how I ever lucked out on… such a wonderful person being my roommate.” She said without looking at him “And yet it’s terrifying… it feels like a gamble if I become so emotionally invested in others. But living alone is impossible, as if I’m not mad enough as it is right?” She chuckled a little, dry and humourless “Well, I’ve already fucked it up anyway by telling you this, so, uh, congrats. You're the first person ever that… I guess I care about… and who cares about me… I believe you- what you said… is what I’m trying to say” She scratched the back of her head awkwardly. Her ears grew hot with embarrassment at what she was saying “Anyway! I’m freaking starving, my stomach is gonna start eating itself. We’ll have to save to poker game till afterwards now!” She said as she ran over and jumped on the couch and patted the seat next to her “I…itattaki… masu… or some shit right? That’s what you say? I don’t know! I just watch anime!”
With that, she hoped that it would be enough to save the mood. Honestly he was well within his rights to move out and never speak to her again really. She was totally not worth all this hard work. At least, in her mind, she wasn’t worth it. But she still wanted him to try. She wanted to believe he meant what he was saying. She wanted to be positive and hopeful and… well… selfless for once. She didn’t want to end up alone. This was a definite leap forward. In one day. Musashi… you are truly incredible. She thought. To herself as she stared at him when she thought he wasn’t looking. She grabbed the chopsticks that came with it and laughed “You… are gonna have to teach me how to use these by the way.” She said awkwardly holding them completely wrong “Because I always chicken out and grab a fork!”

The Hattori did not know how the rest of the night was going to turn out, but he hoped with all his heart that things went back to the way they were before. Even after they both broke there codes and spilled there feelings. He continued to look at the girl. In his eyes you could see the hope he had for things to get better. He didn't want the night to go down the path that it was about to go. In his mind the night could only end two ways since it had already hit rock bottom. Either way both options would make sure that he would be unable to sleep at night. One option would leave him unable to sleep because how amazing his day with her was, and that he couldn't wait till the next day to see her.
OR, the other option would be that he couldn't sleep because he would never have a chance to further his relationship with Mackenzie, and that he would always be just another guy that didn't mean anything to her like the rest. As the Hattori looked at her he could see that her emotions were starting to build up again. He wondered if he had screwed up again by telling her that he didn't want there amazing day to come to an end, but what he got was something else. His eyes closed as she begin to start speaking. Her tone, different than the last time which was a good sign. He could feel his heart melt as she begin to start pouring out more of her feelings. Each word coming out of her mouth relieving the pain that had been brought to him by her rage.
Finally.
He thought to himself as he patiently and blissfully listened to everything she had to say. He wanted to cut her off and say so many thing like; How she didn't ruin there day together, and that she wasn't the only one that lucked because she was a amazing roommate as well. He wanted to hold her so bad. The feeling of her warmth on his body was probably the best feeling he had ever had. But he knew that this was not the time for such a moment. Instead he continued to listen to the song that was Mackenzie speaking. Hearing that she actually care about him meant so much to him. He could feel a spark lighting up inside of him that was probably going to change his whole life as he knew it.
It was like everything was coming together. He had an awesome gang. He learned that his childhood friend from Tokyo wasn't dead, and that he was currently going to the same school as him. Now he had her in his life. The signs that his life was about to take off couldn't get any bigger. His surrounding cast continued to be a testament to that. Thank you. He thought as he opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling with a smile on his face before looking back over to Mackenzie who seemed to be back to her old self. "Yeah, I'm starving too." He'd respond in a soft tone as he continued to smile at the girl. His mind and body was more relax than it had ever been, and it was all because he was around her.
"To be honest. I don't even know how to play poker."
He'd say shrugging his shoulder as he watched her run over to the couch and patted down on the seat next to her. A hint of pink would show up on the face of the Hattori as he slowly walked over to her and sat down directly next to her. "Its only been one day, and your already giving me a reason to sit down next to you." He'd say teasing the girl as he let his thighs graze slightly against hers. Her skin was so soft, and there was no denying that he was loving every second of this moment. He was sure that there was a come back waiting for him, but he'd just go right back at her. The Hattori chuckled as she tried to make sense out his culture. Mack, God your so beautiful. He thought to himself as he turned to face her while she wasn't looking before he turned over to get his food, not knowing that she would look right back at him.
Musashi was glad to know that the rest of the night was going to continue. And for a moment he just stopped and looked at his food just thinking about how many good times they were going to have together here in this place. He was sure that they would do all kinds of crazy things just knowing how adventurous she was. He wasn't the adventurous type, but he was sure that she was going to change all of that, and probably a lot of other things. And it would most likely be for the better. Things were going to get rough for him around the school, and probably the city as well, but it was going to be nice knowing that he would have someone amazing to come home to every night.
"Yeah, I'll definitely make sure to teach you."
He'd say to her with a grin on his face before taking a hold of her hand, if she let him that is, and would position her hands perfectly so that she could eat her meal. AND, if the Hattori was lucky, she would even let him feed her the first bite of food in there new home.

Musashi didn’t interrupt as she spoke, though she could tell, again, there were many times he wanted to. She watched his face carefully. His emotions were clear as day. They read relief, happiness and bliss. Mack had been initially afraid that it was far to late for her to try and fix it. That she had already broken his good opinion of her, and that he had desided that it might be too much effort. She was afraid that her words weren’t going to mean much, because to any normal person pushing everyone away wasn’t behavior they would understand. She hadn’t really explained it in much detail, but, with the little she did say, she hoped he knew that it was more than she’d said to anyone. The future scared her a little now. Even simple things like eating dinner together seemed to take on new meaning now that they had shared this simple but intimate connection.
Still, she knew very little about him. And she wondered now, what sort of life he lead. He must make friends everywhere he went. Everything about him made her feel safe and warm. He made her want to pour all her trust in him, to rely on him. I hope I’m not making a mistake. She thought to herself. Musashi was still a mystery himself. She remembered what he had said
‘I've never even really been around a girl before’
It made her want to laugh, now that she thought about it. She’d had so many experiences with girls, with boys, with all kinds of illegal substances, tattoo’s, clubs, pubs, gimbaling, parties. She’d been so sheltered as a child from it all that she had an idea about freedom being the same thing as stupid recklessness. There were so many stories she could tell him, but so many she probably would never tell him. Musashi hadn’t even really talked to a girl before, so then what kind of life did he have? What kind of company did he keep? The more she thought about it, the more pissed off she got that she knew nothing in all this time.
Except who’s fault is that?
Exactly, she hadn’t asked, because she didn’t want to be asked the same questions.
But I can ask now… We can… actually… become friends…
The thought made her smile. She was still scared, actually she was going to be that way for a long time yet. But she’d committed to the idea that she was going to try, because Musashi was worth it. “Oh? Well then! I’ll have to teach you! I’ll take you to a casino, and I’ll win you back all the money you spent more than me on this dorm!” She chuckled.
She was glad that he didn’t dwell on her little speech. He didn’t need to say he forgave her, because he did that clear enough with his eyes and his smile. She laughed as he came to sat down next to her with a smartassed comment. He brused her leg with his as she raised an eyebrow at him “Oh no, no, no Mr. ‘I-I’ve n-never even b-b-been around a g-g-girl’ Doesn’t get to act cocky anymore. I’m in charge here,” She said poking a thumb at herself and grinning.
Still, she let him teach her the chopsticks. He moved her fingers into position. It felt a little awkward, but she tried to pick up a spring roll “Hmm…” She picked it up, got excited and then dropped it just as she was about to put it into her mought “Damnit, this is gonna take some practice. How am I supposed to eat rice like this, grain by grain? Errgh.” She frowned at her chopstick as if it was the inanimate objects fault she couldn’t eat.

Woman and there need to be in control of things. His mother had taught him told him that at a young age. And despite the fact that she was no longer that way anymore she admitted there was a time when she was that way. He wondered if Mackenzie was going to be that way, or if she was just joking. But knowing her she was probably serious. The fact that she said that kind of bothered him. Not really in a bad way, but more so of the fact that she was taking advantage of something he didn't tell anyone. However, he didn't want to be a part pooper and would instead decide to take it upon himself to do as she did whenever he saw fit.
Right now wasn't that time, but he figured at some point whether it be tonight or any other time that he would get the chance to get her back. Throughout the course of her rant he heard something that got his attention. She mentioned something about taking him to a casino to get back the money he paid for the dorm. He wondered how someone like her get into a casino, and how often she went. He thought back to all the pictures that he saw in her phone and realized that she had probably done ten folds the amount he had ever done in his life. All Musashi had known growing up was training with his father, being home schooled by his mom, and getting all the love from his mom that he did not get from his day.
Occasionally he and his brother would roam the streets of Tokyo and gets into lots of trouble. Mainly himself being the cause of it because of how sensitive he was. He always got into fights, and each time his brother and occasionally Yukine came to his aid. In the beginning situations like that were tedious, but as they got older fighting those 'thugs' on the street became a breeze, and all the training there father put them through had finally paid off. All these thoughts ran through the mind of the Hattori as Mackenzie complained about how difficult it was to use chopsticks. "Yeah, its pretty difficult isn't it? Its not something that you just decide to jump into."
He'd say to her shaking his head before going into the bag that there food was in, pulling out a fork. After doing so he'd quickly take the chop sticks out of her hand, and attempted to give her a fork. "How about you just use this for now. Because if you don't you'll probably starve trying to eat this way." He'd say to her with a grin on his face. He had a lot of making up to do. Right now she felt as if she had the upper hand, but he had just as much on her as she did on him. He wondered where he should take the direction of tonight. They were already eating which meant that there wasn't going to probably be much time left for them to hang before going to sleep.
After all, it had been a long day for the two of them. Especially after they both went running. "Well now that were both here, eating, and kind of settled in. What should we do while were in here to liven up the night before we get all tired and decide to go bed... How bout we open up some bottles?" A grin appeared on the face of the Hattori after his last statement. He was never the type to ever want to drink, but something about her brought out the best, or in this case worst in him. He wanted to show her that despite his lack of experience that he knew how to have fun. Plus there was a lot of interesting things that could come out of something as simple as drinking.
He was sure that she had all the games and ideas to make sure that everything was fun. Plus they wouldn't have to worry about anything because they would be in the comfort of there own home. So she wouldn't have to worry about someone taking advantage of her. Including himself, but that didn't mean that he wasn't going to make sure to have some fun while she was in that state. THAT IS, if she decided that she wanted to do that. He was sure that the fact that he was even willing to bring that up would bring her to question his motives. In this case he didn't have one. He just wanted to have fun with her and extend the night. He was sure that despite the fact that they lived together that they probably wouldn't have to many times like this.
She was adventurous, and at some point she was going to discover her own set of friends and probably wouldn't have much time for him. Which was fine, but that day had not come yet so he wanted to make the most of this one. He had to make some kind of lasting effect on her. He didn't want to just be some guy in her life. He wanted to be THE guy. The person she always came to no matter when things were going good, or bad. Like an insurance policy, with great benefits. As he awaited her answer the Hattori would just stare her with a slightly cocky expression on his face, biting his lips. Time to step outside your comfort zone, and become a man Hattori. No more being afraid to live a little.

She noticed a little hint of annoyance when she made fun of his lack of experience. He hid it quite well, and he didn’t actually mention anything, but the dead air that followed her little joke was enough to confirm what she thought. Ah, struck a nerve there, maybe. Psh, it’s not like I have any experice with… well relationships, what am I even talking about? She sat there a little awkwardly, wondering if she should apologize or weather that would just dampen the mood again. While she thought about that she just pretended to be very interested in her food so he didn’t notice she was feeling rather awkward. Maybe I should keep a check on my jokes. She thought to herself. Stuff like that didn’t faze her, but she had a feeling Musashi was easy to hurt. Luckily for her, he also seemed to be very forgiving. Or maybe he was just one of those confusing people who held things that bothered them within themselves for a long time before letting them explode all at once.
Either way, too much time had past at that point for her to acknowledge the lapse in conversation so she was rather glad when it had started up again as he replaced the chopsticks in her hand with a fork, she chucked “Oh I’m too hungry to argue with you!” She said before grabbing the fork and stabbing the nearest piece of food her stomach was literally contemplating suicide at this point. She dug in with gusto, probably with too much gusto, but she didn’t really care what she looked like right now. She was too hungry to care about such trivial things! If she didn’t slow down she was definitely going to get a sever case of indigestion and be in pain for the rest of the night. Mack often forgot to eat for long stretches of times, and then tried to make up for it in one hit. It probably wasn’t the best of habits to get into.
Of course, that only lasted until he mentioned alcohol. She stopped eating and looked at him matching his grin “Oh yeah? What ‘cha got? Oooh, awesome. I bet your a really embarrassing drunk, right?” She asked him, not even really considering that he might have motives. She was too excited and it didn’t cross her mind. Mack loved to party, and drink. In england she was was only two years off the drinking age, here, well it was a little different. She’d been known to be both a lightweight, and a flirty drunk, so she made a mental note to keep herself somewhat in check. Although she wasn’t sure how her resolve would hold up against her love for the feeling of being intoxicated. Plus, if Musashi was drinking too… maybe he would stop being SO much of a mystery. “GREAT you get the booze then, and I’m gonna crank up the tunes!!” She said as she got up and disappeared into her room like a shot. Out of her suitcase she grabbed her laptop opening up to her ever growing spotify playlist. She loved classic rock n’ role, but her playlist had a little bit of EVERYTHING. It was a combination of almost every genre, every mood, every feeling she had ever had. Of course she had also let other people influence her, and their music was on there too.
She wondered what would Musashi add to the playlist. Everyone she liked got that opportunity after all. She did have some J-rock on there. ‘Linda linda’ being the only one that was her choice.
She placed the laptop down on the stand and played a fairly mellow song to start with. ‘Paradice City’ By Guns and Roses began to play. She plopped back on the couch and looked at him expecting to see a drink in his hand for her. “You ever to a plarty, Musashi? Cause I’mma show you how to party!” She told him, forgetting her troubles as if they never existed. That was just how easily her mood could be changed.

The Hattori watched happily as the girl started eating her food with a fork. He could definitely tell that she was getting comfortable by the way she was eating around him. Or she probably just didn't care. Either way it looked like she was comfortable so that was all that mattered to him at the moment. By the way she ate, he wondered how often throughout the day did she eat. It wasn't everyday that you came across a skinny girl like her who had the appetite of a grown man. He'd figured since he was living with someone now that it would be a good idea to go grocery shopping one of these days. That would be a good way to bond some more with his roommate while also learning what she liked to eat.
The Hattori thought it best to save such an idea for another time. Preferably when he wanted to spend some more personal time with her during one of her free days from doing whatever she would be doing. A grin appeared of the face of the Hattori as she got excited about the idea of drinking. Bingo. He thought as he listened to her teasing him about possible being a embarrassing drunk, but in fact he was the complete opposite. Not that he had his experience through going to parties and stuff, but it was more along the lines of the training he and his brother had with his father. It was to teach them how to deal with certain adversities such as being drugged. It was a boring, and most tiresome experience, but it would prove very reliable in situations like these.
He wondered if telling her that would be a good idea. He decided that he was just going to let her find out for himself. Whenever he had gotten drunk the personality he took on was a bit more upbeat, but with a huge balance of being laid back. However, he did learn that like most people he was emotionally vulnerable, but that didn't mean that at any moment he would just start spilling his emotions to just anyone. In fact he had never done so during each of his encounters with alcohol. "Honestly, I dont even know.. They had been sitting in my room for awhile now back at my other home.. I think I have some Grey Goose, some Patron maybe, and three other bottles.. You can look through if you want." He say pointing to one of the pantries in the kitchen.
"And no, I'm not an embarrassing drunk, but I am a lot more fun to play with."
He'd say raising a brow at the girl with a grin on his face. After his response to the girl she would take it upon herself to go into her room to get the music while he would be left to get the alcohol. Before he could say anything the energetic girl jetted back to her room to get what she needed to get. "Alrighty then, I guess we can start off with the patron?" The Hattori muttered to himself as he got the bottle out of the pantry along with two shot glasses. He was curious to see how she was whenever she got drunk. He knew she had way more 'recreational' experiences with it than he did. Once he got the shot glass he'd open up the bottle and poor both of them a shot before placing it on the kitchen counter.
It wasn't long before his energetic roommate got back into the living room area and started setting up the music. The Hattori was well versed in his music choices, so anything that she chose was going to be fine with him. After she did that the girl headed back to the couch and asked Musashi yet another question. "I've been to a few, but I'm sure there is a lot that you can teach a guy like me right?" He'd say to a girl with a grin on his face before walking over with both of the shot glasses of patron before handing her a shot glass. "What should this toast be to, hmmmm." He wonder as he begin to think about everything that happened today.
"How about we make a toast to us. The first of many great nights to come!" He'd say raising his glass to hers. He was excited to see what was going to happen. He didn't like going to parties much because he never really liked the people there, but this was different. It was just him and his attractive ass roommate. He was sure that there was plenty of potential greatness awaiting for him. Perhaps even after tonight the Hattori might take more of an interest into partying more.
