PHS #552 had adapted Valo into nearly a completely different person. All he ever wanted was to be a ghost in the background, overlooked and unnoticed. But he underestimated the school, and the threats that faced it from time to time. Sometimes, you have to abandon who you are just to survive. Sometimes, you have to become someone or something else.
Valo didn't understand the family chains as well as Siobhan, being only an illegitimate heir to the Yuy family fortune. Unlike Shugo and Soran, he wasn't someone the family would want to inherit their company and fortune, even if he proved to be far more responsible than either of them. But the thing is, he didn't really want it either. He never felt at home around all the suits and formalities, no matter how much it influenced him.
"Unfortunately Valo, there's no security with allies. I guess if having ambition makes me an enemy, that's a responsibility I'll have to accept. There is no second, third, or fourth best. ...I have to win."
Valo, turned away from Siobhan, couldn't help but smile at this. She was slowly starting to show her true self, her true words and feelings. That was what he wanted. But her answer surprised him nonetheless. Ambition...
At the cafeteria now, he opened the door for her and would allow her to go in first, following behind. Soon after, he'd lead the two of them to a table near the middle of the room, away from anyone else who could be in there, before answering her words from before.
"I thought the same for the longest time, that I needed no one. Until I realized there was only so much I could do on my own." He sat down. "But having ambition... doesn't make you an enemy. It's the people who seek to take that ambition away from you who are the real enemies. The trick is figuring out who's really on your side, and who's out to stop you."
He felt that in a moment of crisis, someone's true nature was shown. He had witnessed entire friendships fall apart over things that have happened here. He had seen gangs and alliances fall out after a bad call from their leader that almost got everyone killed. He had seen those same leaders show no remorse for their actions. Trusting someone was tricky indeed, especially when you had every reason not to trust people. But Valo overtime met the right people, no matter how few they were.
"So tell me, Siobhan... do you really feel like you can win all on your own? No matter who becomes your enemy?"

When Siobhan entered the cafeteria, the unease she was undergoing made her stomach twist in knots. Instead of breaking off and heading to a vending machine, she followed Valo to a table in the middle of the room. Personally, Siobhan would've chosen a table to the very far side of the room by the window and in a corner. It helped with the view, and the reassurance of having nothing but bricks at her back gave a bit more confidence.
"I thought the same for the longest time, that I needed no one. Until I realized there was only so much I could do on my own. But having ambition... doesn't make you an enemy. It's the people who seek to take that ambition away from you who are the real enemies. The trick is figuring out who's really on your side, and who's out to stop you."
Siobhan didn't sit. Her hand was wrapped tight around the strap of her bag, and the only thing she could do was stare down at the table. Who wasn't out to stop her? Siobhan was harsh, stubborn, and condescending. Showing ambition could be considered the last straw. You're hesitating Sia. Lowering the bag from her shoulder and onto the table in jerky motions, Siobhan pulled out a chair for herself. It was a feeble attempt to buy time.
"So tell me, Siobhan... do you really feel like you can win all on your own? No matter who becomes your enemy?"
The sound of her name struck a nerve in her. Too similar to the manipulation games running rampant in her household, she desperately wished to claw it out of the air and hide with it.
"It doesn't matter how I feel. It doesn't matter who I have to strike down. Victory is a lonely thing, and I will continue to pursue it."
That's right. As long as she didn't think about the circumstances around the mission, as long as she refused to acknowledge the enemy as another human, Siobhan didn't have to think. Didn't have to feel. She could use the excuse of trying to find her mother's attention once more, or striving for the praise of her father. Everyone was her enemy, that was why there were no friends, no allies. Siobhan was used to winning on her own. Just like the last boarding school, there was no option for friends. Her enemy was not someone to have sentimental value attached to.
"There's not a reason otherwise."

She was cornered. It was easy to see in her hesitance. That false naivety and fake happy-go-luckiness was replaced with what he assumed was her true face. It was time to see who Siobhan really was, maybe all he needed was one more push. But he was being careful not to push her too far...
But if there was one thing Valo was, it was impressed. She knew he wasn't an ordinary student if she knew about things as far back as the Pillar fight with Vivi, and she was still being honest about how she felt. Valo admired ambition. He admired resolve. And that's what she was showing here. He only hoped it wasn't for something malicious. But the more she talked, the more she reminded him of himself, how he felt most of his life. He could relate, to an extent.
"... And what would you say if I offered to help with whatever your cause is?"
He wanted to find out what it was, and it wasn't a false offer. It all depended on what it was. And he understood people had their own personal battles. But she was doing something in that PA room that involved this school. If it aligned with interests of his own, or it was something he could agree with, him aiding her wasn't out of the question.
"All you need to do is tell me what it is. What you're trying to do. If it's something I can see eye to eye with, I'm willing to help. And if it's not, then I'll drop it and you're free to walk away without any problems." He looked right at her. "You have my word."
Might as well drop all the pretenses and be open with it.

"... And what would you say if I offered to help with whatever your cause is?"
Siobhan watched the hairline fracture splinter off into spiderweb cracks. Broken fragments of light shone down on her face. It was terrifying. Her body recoiled from the light, silent voice screaming for it all to go away. She didn't deserve the light, she didn't want change. Siobhan wanted to stay in this dark house forever. It was the notion she clung to while the fist pounding at the edges of her walls triumphed. How disappointing. Valo had beaten her at a game of wits.
"All you need to do is tell me what it is. What you're trying to do. If it's something I can see eye to eye with, I'm willing to help. And if it's not, then I'll drop it and you're free to walk away without any problems."
A sound of victory and rebellion against herself. Siobhan was the queen watching her own kingdom turn against her and demand her head on a pedestal. What was this eerie calm while her world shook from the force of Valo's words? Was this a proposal to be allies after they both were acknowledging how risky it was for both of them? Siobhan wanted to cover her ears. She didn't want to hear this. She fought having to face the mounting loneliness and secret workings of her rebelling against her given purpose.
"You have my word."
Don't look at me. Valo's gaze was unnerving, and the table was starting to swim in her eyes. What if.. It was okay just to trust one person. Would- no, could she do it? The girl inside her receded further, swearing that they would walk away like everyone else. Ambition was all she needed. But the words were out, and the queen's doors were shattered, but Siobhan allowed them to escort her away. She would stand before the guillotine and wait for the blade to drop on her throat.
"Unconditional allies huh? I haven't heard of that one. I'm kind of jealous, Valo, that all of your friends were able to treasure someone like you."
Every word was slow to be spoken, all of them old and dusty from being buried so deep. Siobhan didn't even know how badly she had desired one person to confide in until they had directly spoken the unknown truth to her. Queens weren't supposed to show their tears, but here she was, emotion clogging her throat.
"If I'm not too much trouble, I too, would like to join.. with you.. and maybe others as well. It's not like my objective was anything crazy or reckless. I just wanted to be at the top. My father's approval or mother's love, they both are the same desire. I want to be acknowledged as a human too."

It seemed that he managed to get through to her. Valo was honestly surprised, feeling as though Siobhan would continue to keep her guard up. But despite this, he didn't view her as weak. On the contrary, opening up like that took a semblance of courage. Especially when she seemed to have a heavy past that made it difficult to do so, at least from what he inferred from her previous words about having no allies.
"Unconditional allies huh? I haven't heard of that one. I'm kind of jealous, Valo, that all of your friends were able to treasure someone like you."
Was it something to be jealous of? What he was, it was someone who was so weak-willed that he couldn't control the monster raging inside that nearly killed his friends and remaining family. Siobhan wasn't there that day at the docks, but in a way, he was afraid she could look at him and see what was still lingering inside. It didn't die. It just receded, but he didn't know for how long. Her words pained him, although he did his best not to show it.
"If I'm not too much trouble, I too, would like to join.. with you.. and maybe others as well. It's not like my objective was anything crazy or reckless. I just wanted to be at the top. My father's approval or mother's love, they both are the same desire. I want to be acknowledged as a human too."
Those words surprised him even further. Maybe she, like him, often kept up a tough front in an effort to appear stronger than they really were. His parents' love, and wanting to feel like a human... they were something he could relate to all too well. His own father left him for dead, despite Valo searching for him for years, only to end up with that result. He only hoped Siobhan's father wasn't as cruel, and his own recent experiences made him feel like he wanted to help however he could, although it was a family matter and many did not want others butting in.
"I understand all too well... And it's not too much trouble. You were honest with me, and I appreciate it. We can be allies from this point on, if we can keep this honesty between us." He spoke a bit quietly, but not nearly as harsh sounding as he was previously. He could be a lot friendlier now, and that was a huge relief. "But... if you don't mind me asking, what did that stunt in the PA room have to do with you making it to the top? You surrendered to the Pillars easily, so you must have had another reasoning for everything, correct?"

The memory stung, and Siobhan didn't want to reflect on it. Allies. The word was a blessing, and it made her realize that she had been starving for a relationship like that. Reaching her hands out to cup the sweet water she had been without while traveling in the desert of loneliness, Siobhan stared down at the new possibilities. She assumed that unconditional allies were meant to share these sorts of things, and that this could be considered a stepping stone. To what? Siobhan wasn't sure, but she felt as if she was beginning a long journey. She couldn't quit here. Taking a deep breath, she launched into the story, starting with a little bit of her background.
"Too often, my father has paranoid episodes. He is the head of our family, and assumes that everyone is against him, including his daughter. On the contrary, he holds me up to high standards, knowing that I nearly fail every time. But that's thing. I don't fail. Not when it comes to him, because failure means the crumbling of our relationship."
Siobhan took a deep breath, shifting in her seat, feeling her voice grow lower with ranged emotions. She reached into her bag and pulled out the notebook from earlier, flipping through its pages while talking.
"I have to give him a status report every week. My progress in the school, who is left to conquer, and lastly, my next steps for action. Recently, his impatience with my slow work reached a tipping point. He demanded that if I did not bring back the appropriate intel on every student in the school, I would have failed my mission. I would have failed him."
Siobhan stopped at a long detailed page, sliding it over to Valo for him to look at it. Every Pillar and person of strength she had run into had bullet points underneath their names, listing all of the things she observed from them. Pieces they had shared in conversations with friends, small areas of their normal quirks, even relationships that could be exploited. Notes were written in the corners of possible routes to take when approaching them.
"Naturally, the Pillars wouldn't have allowed the school database to be hacked, and I would've been intercepted. So, I set up a quick ruse, no more than two minutes at best, to send the information back to my house computer via what looked like a flash drive to you guys. It didn't work. The coding was ridiculous, and with it, I could have entered the Police database and shut them out of their own network."
Siobhan paused to take a calming breath before looking at Valo with a serious expression.
"My father was furious. I failed him, and the mission. My punishments were given accordingly, and I evaded you guys to prevent being found out. Naturally, my father finds out everything, and would have been much more harsh. Sorry Valo, but I wasn't given much of a choice."

(OOC: Liking the new images.)
Valo listened to her speak, giving her his undivided attention. It sounded as though she had a lot of pressure on her shoulders. So much that he was surprised she wasn't breaking down over it. To do as she did, to go through all of this, all for the sake of her father's approval... he couldn't really fault her for anything she did. It wasn't like she did anything out of some incredibly dark motive, but all to be acknowledged. She was not his enemy by any stretch.
He took a look at the paper she slid to him, reading over it carefully. There were names he recognized on there, definitely, as well as names he didn't. This was truly something that being a 'ghost' aided with. She could sit back and observe unknowing to anyone else. If he had seen this list before he discovered her true motivations, he might have seen her as a potential threat. But right now, she had immunity and he'd make sure of it.
It wasn't an easy task by any means, and even if Siobhan had the title of School Captain itself, it'd be very difficult to get tabs on every single student here. New ones showed up every day, sometimes powerful ones. He could only wonder what the intel was for, but the word 'conquer' stood out to him. What were these punishments he gave to her?
"I guess I'd call you lucky for confiding in me about this over any of the Pillars. I can't say any of them would have been inclined to let you off, much less try to help you."
He slid the paper back over to her, crossing his arms as he leaned on the table slightly. He was lost in thought, trying to figure out the best course of action. Getting involved wasn't the wisest deal, but he had his reasons for wanting to. She was trapped, and if he could help give her a way out, he would. Additionally, he could get more information on what was a possible threat, and perhaps prepare accordingly.
"Now, Siobhan, there's a couple of things we could try to do about this. If you're willing, that is." He paused for a moment, still contemplating on what the best course of action was. "I could do everything in my ability to get you out of the everwatching eye of your father, to give you a chance to live for yourself for a bit and give us some time to think of something better. Or if you're set on your course... You could report to him that you either beat or coerced a 'powerful' opponent into being on your side to win some favor with him, which would be me. Perhaps it'd give you some reprieve as well."
Now, a powerful rich family wasn't on his usual list of opponents, but seeing as his targets were usually more high profile, he could figure something out. The difference this time is he wouldn't go in guns blazing with the intent of terminating.

OoC: Thanks! Finally figured out formatting...
Siobhan listened to Valo's proposal with a tight feeling in her chest. Her brow furrowed when it became hard to breathe. What the... Strange enough, her vision began swimming, the crushing pressure compacting her lungs into a box. Ah, she was panicking. Siobhan felt relief when she identified the problem. She could work with panic attacks, but if she had gotten sick that would've been bad. Apparently Valo's words of her luck had struck an unknown chord in her. Siobhan had no doubt any of the other Pillars would have given the opposite reaction than the ex-Pillar. It was exactly why the truth had been so tightly sealed within her. Even while knowing she had taken the appropriate measures to avoid that, the words frightened her. She didn't want to think about it.
"Now, Siobhan, there's a couple of things we could try to do about this. If you're willing, that is. I could do everything in my ability to get you out of the everwatching eye of your father, to give you a chance to live for yourself for a bit and give us some time to think of something better. Or if you're set on your course... You could report to him that you either beat or coerced a 'powerful' opponent into being on your side to win some favor with him, which would be me. Perhaps it'd give you some reprieve as well."
Siobhan gave Valo an incredulous look. Leave her father? The idea had never occurred to her before. But upon looking at his face drawn in thought, she realized that he was genuinely trying to help her. She didn't know what to do, what to say. She was aware that denying the request was probably a dumb and ungrateful idea considering the efforts Valo was going through, and besides, the thought of actually having allies that would stay with her even when there was a fire under their asses came with such an overwhelming gratitude, tears wanted to gather in her eyes. Live for yourself. Was that even an option for Siobhan? The Arden family chains were draped so heavily over her shoulders, it had locked away any ideas of freedom away.
"No, there wouldn't be any reprieve. It would only serve to make him more demanding. You know the saying, "give an inch and they take a mile"? That's him. He always wants more..."
Siobhan tossed her idea around in her head, flexing it to see how well it would hold up. It was only temporary, but as Valo said, it would give them a chance to think of something better. Not only that, but once the door to freedom was open, Siobhan was rushing towards it with open arms. She didn't even look back.
"PHS #552 has housing units don't they? The security here is pretty decent, it would give my father enough trouble to not pursue me for a while. Although, Valo, thank you."
Siobhan stared him in the eyes with a small grateful smile on her face. Because of him, all of those distant dreams buried down within her had a chance to grow. Siobhan didn't have to be miserable in her victory, and lonely while standing on the bodies of her enemies. She was given a chance to leave the battlefield. And hopefully end the war.

After dropping their pretenses, her panicking was no longer a sign of victory, but rather, it made him worry instead. She wasn't an enemy anymore, but an ally. But perhaps his words just weren't something she was used to hearing, not if she lived her whole life thus far not believing she could trust anybody. Enemies were so easy to make, especially in this school. Making enemies with the wrong people could lead to your head on a stake. He hoped that through the confidence they now started to share that she would feel more secure in this place, even a little bit.
"No, there wouldn't be any reprieve. It would only serve to make him more demanding. You know the saying, "give an inch and they take a mile"? That's him. He always wants more..."
...Well, scratch that idea. If it wouldn't lighten the load on Siobhan's shoulders, even a little, then it wasn't the best course of action. Still, he was a man who was willing to send his own daughter into danger like this to fulfill a task that could get her killed in the process. And she only longed for his approval, which is why she went through with it. If he was anyone else, he would find it hard to believe someone's parent could be that way... but then the words of his own father flashed through his mind, while he was laying there, bleeding on the ground just weeks ago. "Once you die, it won't hurt anymore.".. Tch.
"PHS #552 has housing units don't they? The security here is pretty decent, it would give my father enough trouble to not pursue me for a while. Although, Valo, thank you."
That's right. The school's dorm building. And the small army of Regulators that roamed this place would make it difficult for most to get in without bringing a small force of their own. Of course, it has happened within the last couple of months, several times even.
"Correct. PHS #552 consists of three large buildings. The school itself, the old, abandoned building on the far end of the school, and the remaining building would be the school dorms. They're not the best, but... it's a nice start."
Her thanking him, and that genuine smile of hers just now. It wasn't something he expected. It carried a different weight to it than all of her previous, false looks she gave before. She was pretty, and he only hoped days would come where she could smile for real like that a lot more often.
"You're welcome, Siobhan." He smiled back in response. "There's... one thing I'd like to give you."
He rummaged around in his backpack for a few seconds, pulling something out of it and placing it on the table in front of Siobhan. It was a small device with a single switch on it, no larger than a small pen.
"I can only imagine the fears you must have with the kind of burden you're carrying, or who could possibly be after you... but hopefully this helps. It's a device that, once you activate it, transmits your location to me from pretty much anywhere in the city. Only when it's activated, so don't worry. Just... in case you're in a bind and you need bailing out. A lot more discreet than trying to reach me by phone, if anything. Call for me, and I'll be there as fast as I can."
He wasn't sure what kind of questions she'd ask, namely about why he had these kinds of devices on him. Perhaps the day would come where she'd find out all about his little vigilante escapades, but it wasn't what mattered right now. He just wanted to give her some extra insurance when it came to her safety. He was afraid of the backlash she'd receive from her father, as well as whatever other enemies she had made in her time here or any previous schools.

Siobhan stared down at the tracker that Valo gave her. There was a grim hesitance in her to accept the offer. So I'm switching one out for the other? That wasn't right. Valo was trying to give her some insurance, something to quell his fears about her father's unpredictability. Allies were going to be naturally concerned. It wasn't like Valo knew about the tracker implanted in Siobhan anyway. No one did save for her father and herself. Gingerly, she reached out and picked the tracker up from the table, cramming it down into the far depths of her bag. Retracting her hand, Siobhan braced herself for the next request of hers.
"Thank you, Valo, but can you do me a favor? My father has assumed these recent years that I would one day leave him. As a precaution, he also put a tracker on me."
Siobhan was procrastinating, dancing around the actual problem. The longer she clapped her hands over her ears and sang, the more the memory blurred. Remembering it was allowing the white hot iron to sear the hidden flesh beneath her hair again. Siobhan felt herself shrink down, screaming instead of singing, louder until the thoughts would go away. Enough Sia, you can let your allies help with this burden. There was a great reluctance within her, but Siobhan sighed heftily and flicked the knife out from its hiding spot in her sleeve. Quickly flipping it so the blade would face her, she offered it to Valo so he didn't get any wrong ideas.
"Here. The implants located back behind my ear, and I need you to cut it out for me."
Siobhan braced herself for the incredulous looks, the disgust and pity mixed together and dumped onto her. Those same looks swirled in her head, reminding her of the passing people in her life, all of them so aware of her situation, but never felt the need to lift one finger. Siobhan had told herself she didn't need anyone. She could stand on her own. There was never a need for external help. But here she was, offering a knife to a newfound ally, asking them to take the blade to her skin and cut out the past. Clawing up from her throat was desperation to take everything back and continue how she was before. Why did things have to change? She was surviving wasn't she?
Because Sia, survival is insufficient.

"Thank you, Valo, but can you do me a favor? My father has assumed these recent years that I would one day leave him. As a precaution, he also put a tracker on me."
...Well, that complicated matters. So if he never knew about it, or she neglected to mention something, then in the event she did accept his first offer, there wasn't a safe haven where she could hide away as long as that thing was on her. However, it was something she pointed out, and thus, they could do something about it. But... she had pulled out a knife. Watching it closely, seeing the blade drawn, he noticed she turned it towards herself and offered it to him. Where was this going...?
"Here. The implants located back behind my ear, and I need you to cut it out for me."
Holy shit. What? A look of surprise washed across his face, something that not even he could hide. Her father placed the tracker inside of her? He was nothing if not thorough, but as Valo stared down at the knife, he tried to figure out other possible solutions. If he tried to extricate her from the school and taking her back to his lab where he could easily pull it out with little complication, then that meant her father would see her location shifting to some place unusual, as well as jeopardize his own safehouse. It had to be done as soon as possible to get rid of that everwatching pair of eyes following her everywhere, knowing her every move.
Valo steeled himself, taking the blade from her. He wasn't going to ask how she got it past the Regulators, but she was very crafty and figured she found her own means. It looked like it'd be sharp enough to do what she asked of him, and yet... he was hesitant. Whenever he hurt someone, it was usually because they were an enemy. He had crushed foes for many reasons, whether it was self-defense or protecting a friend. He had beaten information out of people, or sometimes resorted to cruel means to obtain it. But never had he taken a blade to someone who was on his side. Even if he just now got to know her, the very prospect left him with an unfamiliar feeling of unease and discomfort.
"...If that is your request."
He finally spoke, standing up from his seat, knife in hand. He made his way around to stand behind Siobhan, making sure to keep any prying eyes in the room from seeing what the two of them were doing. As long as they didn't see the knife, it was easy enough to come up with an excuse should they be questioned.
"Which ear, and where exactly? And how deep would I need to go?"
Doing what needed to be done was never easy.

Siobhan ignored the look of surprise that left a hard weight in her gut. She could dwell on that later. The tracker being removed came first, and then the looks that always alienated her. Valo took the blade away from her, but Siobhan could sense his hesitance. That was confusing. Why would Valo hesitate to take out an implant? Wouldn't he be seeing that as a favor to her? Holding knives to allies isn't normal. Ah, Siobhan understood now. They were unconditional allies, not solely conditional. She had forgotten that.
"Left ear. You'll see the scar and then the implant underneath. Mine didn't heal properly. My father didn't think my body would reject the transplant. Just cut the scar open and then the corner of the implant is right below the surface."
The memories were coming back in hot flashes and sweat chills on Siobhan's skin. The insertion hadn't hurt, it was the next few days after when there was the constant pressure and headaches. A fever broke out on the second day, and she was put right back in the lab on the third. Removal and then insertion again. This time the scar tissue healed around it, wiggling the transplant right back out of the wound. The next insertion was hazy, too much pain in her body for her mind to remember it properly. Sitting on the cold table, the tracker was inserted, and then it was cauterized shut.
This felt like a sore betrayal, and Siobhan knew her father would never forgive her. Too much like your mother, he would hiss at her sometimes from his chair in the corner of the dark parlor. Was she? Siobhan wouldn't know. Taking a breath to steel her nerves against the cool cut of metal on her skin, she reminded herself that even as the Arden heiress, she had a right to her own life. Siobhan wasn't sure if she believed that, but the idea of rebellion was already growing forth, and it was time to take responsibility,

Left ear...
Valo would move her hair aside, seeing the scar that she had mentioned. So she was serious about the implant deal. Though she had no reason to fabricate such a story, he only wished he wouldn't have had to cut into her skin like this. When he approached her, he only planned to get under her skin metaphorically, not literally. He wished they had lived in a world where such cruelties were not imposed on them, but it took someone to fight to make a better world. It was always the pioneers who had to endure the toughest fight, and right now, he had to see this as a stepping stone for the both of them.
Steeling himself and calming his nerves down, he placed the tip of the knife against the scar. This isn't anything different than what you've done before, Adrian... just like removing a bullet. He told himself, trying to remind himself that this was necessary. He sought to help those around him, even if the means degraded his own humanity. But this felt different, and it was hard for him to understand why that was.
"If you're sure... hold still. It'll be over before you know it."
If Siobhan didn't change her mind, Valo would take a deep breath before pressing the knife to her skin, cutting into the scar. He would ignore the blood that surfaced, hoping she wasn't in too much pain, but this wasn't the painful part. Fighting the feeling of unease, he'd see the implant through it all, just as she had mentioned. I wonder if that's what the implant in my chest looks like... He thought. Memories of Strakh began to overtake him, threatening to choke the life from him once more. That damned harbinger of Fear... He took a deep breath, pushing the memories of that day from his mind and placed the knife at the corner of the implant.
"Bite down on something. This looks like it's going to hurt."
He'd speak to her, waiting for her to brace herself. If left to continue, he'd fight back the discomforting feelings welling up, and would start to pry and cut the implant out of her. It'd agitate the wound he left on her, but after enough effort, he'd pull it right out of her. Tearing implant from her skin, he'd quickly place the knife on the seat next to her, hidden between them, and reach into his bag and pull out a handkerchief, holding it to the wound to keep her from bleeding too much as he held the blood-stained implant out in front of her. He leaned in a bit close, just in case she needed the support after that. Something that was wired into her like this was bound to have some repercussions, at least that's what his concern was.
"Are you alright...? And... I'll let you do the honors."

Siobhan didn't say anything in response, in fact she didn't even breathe. Holding the air in her chest was not necessarily out of hesitance or fear, but it was her way of punishing herself. Siobhan's father wouldn't be there to give out the consequence of betraying him, so someone had to. She was the only one left. The knife descended, but Valo didn't cut. There was nothing, rather he was asking her to brace herself. Reminding herself it wasn't proper to laugh in a situation like this, she opted to explain why she would be laughing rather than do the action itself.
"It won't hurt. Even if it does, I can take it."
Siobhan wondered if she was lying through her teeth or not. It wasn't necessarily false, but the implant scar was a sensitive area. Cutting into it would undoubtedly cause pain out of the normal. Giving herself a shake, she frowned at her lap. That was irrelevant. There was always punishments that would stand out from the rest on the pain scale. Siobhan wasn't afraid anyways. That in itself would reduce the pain tremendously anyways. Her father realized early on that while physical discipline was effective, there was nothing better at keeping Siobhan in line than straight-up fear.
Whether it was knife training with her as the target or being caught in the crossfire of a gunfight, her injuries never hurt as bad as the fear of his disapproval. Of course, there was still the terror of being killed, but Siobhan learned to move past that. It was distracting, and there were more pressing things to worry over besides the passing of another existence. Siobhan had learned from the liquor bottles cracked against her skin that the world turns, and she was just another star in the sky already having distantly died out.
This time, the knife cut into the scar, and a bolt of pain sliced on the side of her head. Gritting her teeth, Siobhan kept her eyes open to the irritation, able to feel the edge of the damn knife dig in further. Breathe Sia, the worst has already passed. There was a noticeable relief when the implant was removed, almost as if she had stopped noticing the constant annoyance, but it was always there in the distance.
"Are you alright...? And... I'll let you do the honors."
This time the look was given before she had a chance to cover it up, and it was complete disbelief. Siobhan blinked a few times to try and erase the look, but she figured it was most likely futile. The statement had taken her completely off guard. Alright? What was that even supposed to mean? Siobhan was unsure what he was referring to. Did Valo think he had hurt her? Suddenly concerned for him, Siobhan leaned in closer to his already near body, giving him a serious and worried look.
"You didn't hurt me."
It was then she realized that Siobhan had put her face very close to his, and then decided to prevent any further embarrassing actions, she grabbed the wet implant from his hand. The blood was gross, and it was only then that her hand reached behind her ear. Valo's hand was right there, and holding what felt like cloth against her head. Slightly exasperated and a little flushed, Siobhan tried stressing to him the importance of not being so preoccupied with her well-being.
"It's fine, you don't have to keep that there."

Valo did his best to ignore Siobhan's pained expression, for the sake of her remaining true to her words and being strong through this, and to get it done with as soon as possible to stop the pain. The sight of blood wasn't something that normally made him feel disturbed, but the fact remained is it was what he was focused on this time. Normally, it was something that he paid no mind to, it was part of the job. Or when he was cutting something out of his own body, it was a necessity to survive. But an ally's blood on his hands... he had to remember it was a necessity for her as well. The means to an end.
It was removed with little issue, thankfully. And he had to admit, he wasn't exactly prepared to do something like that today. She presented him with a huge level of trust right off of the bat, and he wasn't willing to break it. He was only glad it was over now, and he hoped that it would make her life easier from this point forward.
"You didn't hurt me."
Siobhan moved her face extremely close to Valo's, and despite the look of concern on her face, he could tell that he himself was feeling flushed at the sudden closeness. So when she looked away, grabbing the implant from his hand, he felt relief, though he was sure his face was noticeably warmer now.
He looked down at the blood-stained device, only able to wonder what was going through Siobhan's mind as she looked at it herself. Something like that must carry a lot of weight, and he hoped that some of it was removed from her shoulders. He wondered if she'd trash it, or keep it as some sort of reminder to herself.
"It's fine, you don't have to keep that there."
What? "...Oh, right. I'm sorry." He said quickly, still a bit exasperated from the previous face closeness, removing his hand and the cloth away from her neck. Looking at it, it too was coated in a bit of blood. But he would use it to wipe the blood off of the blade between them, sitting down next to her this time around. He tried to put his usual calm demeanor back on, despite what just happened.
"That's over... so what happens from here?"
