Vivi didn't want this. She wanted to eat melty ice cream on a hot summer day. She wanted to complain about homework and and upcoming math tests with friends. She wanted to learn how to drive with her dad. She wanted to embarrass her little sister on her first date. She wanted a normal life.
Not this. Anything but this.
The dim light from the chandelier provided very little light to the spacious second floor of the manor. Two girls stood in the spacious hallway, dangerously close to the balcony that hung over the stairs. Velour twirled her spear so that the sharp end face end faced Vivi and made another lunge for her, in attempt to spear her through the gut. The violet haired girl let out a yelp and scrambled to the side striking the shaft with her forearm to send the weapon off course. Her eyes fixed on her sword Katoptris lying a few yards behind Velour, and she braced to make a dash for it only to be struck on the back of the head. She crashed to the ground and rolled over in time to catch the shaft of the spear in her hands just as Velour had attempted to plunge it into her body. The curved metal tip was only inches away from her chest, and Vivi felt a cold sweat break out on her brow. How was she going to get out of this? As far as she knew they were the only ones in Eponine Manor at the moment, no one knew what was going on. There weren't even any servants to be seen.
The girl above her gritted her teeth and began to muscle the spear downward with all her strength and weight. Vivi’s arm’s shook under the force and her breaths began to come in short shallow rasps. With one sudden shove, she pushed the weapon to the side and rolled the opposite way, causing the spear head to embed itself in the wooden flooring. Vivi scrambled to her feet and made a mad dash for her weapon where it lied next to a stair balcony. She wrapped her hands around the handle and whirled around only to clash weapons with her attacker. Velour drew her spear back and lunged at her once more, and Vivi slashed at the handle of it to send to off balance a again, this time taking off running towards the stairs. She wasn’t gonna stay. Call her a coward, this was self-preservation and she wasn’t just gonna let Velour murder her. She’d come too far to die like this.
She heard something whistling through the air around her and she flinched when the spear came sailing through and embedding itself into the wall only a few feet in front of her. It stabbed through an electric light on the wall and mangled to cords in the walls behind it, causing sparks to spray out on the floor. Vivi just continued to run, but this time, she unhooked something from her belt. This was going to cost her, wasn’t it? But when someones about to end your life before you’re ready sometimes you gotta do crazy shit. Vivi yanked the safety pin off the gas bomb and released the safety she she chucked it behind her. The bomb landed near the spot where the sparks where haltingly spraying out. It was only a matter of moments before it sparked again, and gas was rapidly filling the room behind her.
“VIVIAN!” Velour’s angry voice rang out behind her, “I’LL KILL YOU. I WILL FUCKING GUT YOU!”
Some people might’ve panicked a bit more that they were standing near a room that was about to go boom, but not Vivi. She’d been there, done that. Then been there several more times because apparently she never learned. With one last burst of speed she leaped toward the window and curled up, allowing her shoulder to take most of the impact. The glass shattered and sparkled around her, and for a moment, she enjoyed the beautiful sensation of free falling. She landed in a pile of shrubs and moved to pick up sword—but a deafening noise filled her ears and the force of an explosion sent her tumbling out into the hard stone courtyard of Eponine manor. Vivi’s head slammed into the ground and her vision flashed white. The girl looked up as blood streamed down her face from where the skin on her head had split. The right side of the manor was in flames, and part of the wall was entirely blown out. But, ohh, the question of the hour—was Velour still alive? It pained her to have such darkened thoughts, but she really hoped she wasn’t.
She turned back around in time to see head lights flash in the center of her vision. Oh god… this timing. It was the absolute fucking worst. Multiple black cars pulled into the courtyard as the gates swung open, and the small violet haired girl frantically scrambled to her feet. Blood fell into her eyes and she squeezed them shut, rubbing them and still trying to run in her panic. Dammit, dammit, DAMMIT. It was almost funny to think yesterday morning she was having freaking BREAKFAST with Velour and the others. They discussed business just like they used to, and in the evening there was a party. Things felt normal-ish. As normal as they can with a family who’s your family… but still kind of isn’t. She never should’ve fallen back into their arms. She should’ve been stronger. Strong enough to carve out her own path when she had absolutely nothing. But here she was, back at square one. Nothing to call her own but the torn clothes on her back and her sword which she was currently running in the opposite direction of.
She began to feel dizzy, and suddenly lost her footing, crumbling down onto the ground once more. Vivi got back up on her hands and knees, gasping for air and watching the blood pour down from her head onto the ground. If she had been thinking straight, perhaps she might’ve found a way to apply pressure to it, and also might’ve gone to pick up her sword. But no, she couldn’t be thinking less straight. Her mind was cloudy and her body ached with the beating she’d taken from Velour, and the damage she’d taken after jumping out the window. Vivi got back to her feet and tried to run again, but the gates of the courtyard were closing. She needed to run faster. She needed to BE faster. If she was quick as a flash of light, just think of how many bad situations she would be able to get out of.
The sound of rushed foot steps grew louder behind her, and she felt and arm wrap around her neck and around the front of her body. She attempted to tilt her head down enough to bite her captors arm, but it was too tight against her neck, and she felt her head begin to throb as the man behind her moved to put her in a sleeper hold. Several painful seconds later, she was out. It didn’t last long though. Her limp body twitched in the syndicate soldier’s arms as she was thrown into the back seat of a car along with another soldier, and the one behind her stepped inside himself before closing the door behind him.

She knew this route. This drive. They were going back to Perish Manor. She’d have to answer to Sir. Once they pulled into the new courtyard and attempted to extract Vivi from the care, she had regained some of her wits, though she had still lost a lot of blood. The violet haired girl thrashed and struggled to get out of the soldiers hands, but was only slammed into the ground. One of them twisted her arms behind her back and began fastening hand cuffs to her wrists.
“Got another pair of cuffs?” the soldier asked his partner.
“Are two really necessary?”
“You clearly don't know her if you’re asking me that.”
The other soldier sighed and went along with it. Soon Vivi was double handcuffed and being forced inside her family home at gun point. Voices. Discussions. They explained the situation to Sir. ‘Mother’ didn’t try to take her side. Then there was quiet. Little Vivi Perish sat at a table double hand cuffed with her violet hair in a mess, torn clothes and blood crusted to her face.
“So. Now you’ve set off an explosion in two of our associates properties,” Sir frowned, his eyes piercing into hers.
“I didn’t do that!” Vivi snapped, “The bridge was Velour!”
“What about the Eponine House?”
“Oh wait THAT. Yes, I did do that,” Vivi muttered. There was no denying it. People had seen her.
“And Velour. Were you trying to kill her?”
Vivi stomped her feet and set a rage filled gaze on the man before her.
“Me, trying to kill her?” she growled, “HOW ABOUT NOT WANTING TO DIE!? SHE TRIED TO IMPALE ME WITH A FUCK'N SPEAR!”
Vivi’s voice echoed through the room.
“THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS—” she yelled again but her voice cracked this time, and tears began to fill her eyes, “If you try to kill me that’s what happens! I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die…!”
“If a squad member's trying to kill you, call for back up. As it is there’s no proof she attempted to hurt you. You don’t attack people who’re on our side, Vivian. Remember your loyalties,” Sir frowned.
“I’m on nobody’s side,” Vivi growled, but her voice with quiet and tearful, almost inaudible. “I’m loyal to no one. I’m on my own side that covers my loved ones and me.”
“You swore loyalty to this syndicate.”
“I swore loyalty to what I THOUGHT this syndicate was.”
“Traitor…” a familiar voice filled Vivi’s ears and her chest tightened with anger and anxiety.
Velour emerged from the door way and came to stand by Sir, her cold gaze fixed on Vivi.
“Yes. Your attempts to murder me failed. Quit your gawking.”
Anger. Ohh, how it burned. She couldn't even describe it. She couldn't even make herself yell, or scowl any deeper than she was.
“I’m sorry, you’ve just got a ton of ash on your face,” Vivi replied, trying her best to sound calm, “What are you here for?”
“To let you know there’s only one punishment for you,” Velour yanked a knife from her belt and started towards Vivi. She stopped a foot or so away from her and pointed the knife at her.
“And it’s death.”
The corner of Vivi’s mouth twitched in a slight snarl.
“I’m trying my best to be polite, but if you move that knife a centimeter closer to me I will tear you apart.”
“Says the tired, blood stained, hand cuffed girl. Oh god I think I’m gonna piss myself,” she sneered and held the tip of her knife under Vivi’s chin.
“Stop, girls,” Sir demanded, “Velour, step away.”
She reluctantly obliged, but her murderous gaze stayed fixed to Vivi as Sir continued to speak. Anger still burned with in her, and she wasn’t sure if her blood pressure could get any higher. She hated her. She hated Velour so much, it seemed insane to think she once cared for the girl. But really, it was hard to hate someone as much as someone you used to love. It was childish of her to still be clinging to the lost friendship between her and Kaya but throughout all that’d happened to her in her short life, she was the ONLY person who Vivi could say she had a legitimate friendship with who didn’t turn on her.
It was funny, how people would stab you in the back and then ask why you’re bleeding.
Sir and Velour only continued to spew vile words at her, and sooner or later, she was thrown into a small square room in the basement. Her cheek hit the stone floor, and she was unable to catch herself due to her hands being secured behind her back. So she laid there. A small, weak and broken girl just lying there on the ground unable to do a thing to save herself. The soldier who had shoved her inside backed out of the room, but didn’t close the door right away. Velour emerged in the door way, the light behind her causing her to appear as a silhouette.
“You should’ve never come back” she said, walking into the room. She aimed a harsh kick at Vivi’s already damaged ribs. She was sure some of them were already fractured, and when the kick connected she felt a few of the snap. Vivi scrunched up her face in pain but made no noise.
“There was a reason they dumped you lousy ass off in Rosemary heights. You’re no use to us,” she kicked her again, this time in the teeth.
Blood filled her mouth and Vivi spat it out onto Velour’s shoe, but the girl ignored it.
“They sent several of us away,” Vivi rasped, “To get us out of the way for a while. They sent you away for a bit, didn’t you? Don’t think your special…”
“Hmm… they send you to a corrupt boarding school where you get the ever living shit out of you, and they send me and some of the others to stay with extended family who treated us with respect. I WONDER who they favor.”
“Is that all… you live for?” Vivi croaked, “Their approval? Pathetic…”
Vivi grunted when Velour kicked her in the stomach.
“I live for other things. But even if I did live for that, it’s something. You don’t live for a damn thing—your life, your being, everything you stand for is pathetic… look at you.”
She turned and walked toward the door.
“To think I once called you a sister.”
The door was slammed shut and secured. Once again, the violet haired girl was completely alone with her pain, thoughts and dreams.
"Once upon a time, I swore I had a heart. Long before the world I know tore it all apart. Once upon a time there was a part of me I shared. Years before they took away the part of me that cared."
