"Where in the world am I supposed to go now?" Hemera murmured to herself. Her low heeled boots clicked softly on the concrete as she walked along the street. She bundled herself tightly under her jacket as a cold wind blew through. She was surprised that the judge let her try to find this place on her own. To let a murderer and thief out on the streets on her own? He must have been mad! Looking up, she spotted an area that looked promising. She was looking for a school titled PHS #552. Before she could think it, Nyka spoke to her.
"What's so special about this PHS place anyways? The system wants to try and reform us by sending us to some school?"
"I don't know, Nyka, but we're sure to find out," muttered Hemera. Nyka had been there since the slaughter of her family. She had gotten the two of them through some of the tough times on the streets. Nobody wanted to take in a teenager, especially an emotionally and spiritually damaged one. Nyka was her best friend in this world.
Glancing around, buildings were tall and standing proud against the night sky. It was a shame, however. Hemera couldn't see the stars in the sky. Lost in thought, she had walked across a street and ran into fence surrounding a three story building. Through the windows, she could see a few people bustling around. Most of the lights were off, though. It only made sense. It was in the middle of the night, after all. She found the gate and pushed through slowly, opening without a sound. As she approached what seemed to be the main entrance, there was some reservation. What would she encounter inside? What would others be like? If this really was a school, what coursework would she have to complete? She really did detest history.
She brushed her hair behind her ear and took a deep breath. She could feel her hands shaking and a heavy emptiness in her stomach. She shouldn't be nervous after everything she's done. Nonetheless, it was there. "Don't worry, Hemera," said Nyka softly. "I'm here. I'm always here. We can do this. Now, try to open this door and get it over with." Hemera nodded and raised her hand to the door. With new resolve, she pounded on the door with all her strength. The hits sent a sharp pain down her arm but she ignored it.
"Hello?" Hemera yelled out. "Is anyone there? I'm supposed to be enrolling here!"
