The Eye of Der Teufel..
...A devils eye indeed.
For years it has plagued
The lives of many innocents...
Some, turning evil to the bone,
others, killing themselves to keep it from that point.
Others, get exactly what they want out of it,
Thinking themselves invincible,
When it's just....the...opposite.
Half 1:
The perfect life, until a discovery.
A younger man with black hair, a trench coat, and the name tag "ZAITO HABISHI" sat at a table in a dark room across from the other chair, seating opposite to him. "So I assume you know what this is about Kiba?" Zaito would say to the grey haired man across from him, who, seemed strangely interested in a table bobble-head of sailor moon. Kiba looked to Zaitostill playing with the bobble-head with a serious expression. "I do. This is about Tsubaki right?" Kiba replied before taking out a note pad and beginning to click out the tip of a pen with a double echo reverberating throughout the pitch black monochrome room, only lit with a single, swinging bulb tied to a metal string.
Zaito would nod softly with a now concerned face, yet somehow detached all in the same.Almost as if he was staring right through Kiba's face.
"Tell me everything you know."
"That's what I planned on."
'And I mean everything."
"I know what you mean. this isn't a laughing matter, Tsubaki's mental state is becoming worse by the day."
"What about the drugs?"
"Not helping."
"Then start your story, I'll come up with something."
"Sure"
"It was a random day, in a random month. It was the year 2014 when she was adopted.
Quite a bit happened prior to the adoption into the Juriko family though. So I suppose it's best to start there. With the Mitsuzoe's.
Tsubaki was near to being as old as she is to this day, but this, as we know, was few years ago. It feels like it was just yesterday though. Strange isn't it? Or...maybe that sum up is more common than I would believe.
The Mitsuzoe's were a kind and loving couple, I worked for them on a couple past uh...jobs. Since things were going so rosy as a couple they decided to become a family of 4. "
"Four? i thought Tsubaki was an only child."
"No. Ms.Mitsuzoe had a miscarriage on her first try. It was going to be a boy they thought, and would have been the eldest child. But that didn't get o happen."
"I see."
"The same day Tsubaki was born, her parents got in a car crash, ending both of their lives. But miraculously, only the child survived.Soon after going into an orphanage, and being adopted by the Juriko family."
Zaito would brush back his slightly thick, but short hair before continuing.
"Things weren't going too well. From the crash, she lost the use of her left eye, and after many years passed, her right eye began showing signs of deterioration as well. It would be a huge liability to her education if things weren't fixed soon."
"I thought she could see fine-with contacts of course."
"No, that was a clever disguise she came up with."
"Disguise for what?"
Zaito sighed.
"Let me continue."
"Concerning the eye. The Juriko's had vast knowledge, as well as many books on satanic rituals and other things most people would consider taboo."
"So the Juriko's were basically devil worshipers, is what you're saying?"
"Not really. To be exact, I think they were an Atheist family. Just highly interested in the spiritual I guess."
"Tsubaki didn't just have trouble with sight. Socially, she was an outcast. Many tried to befriend her, but "things" happened. In her free time, she would peer into many forbidden and dangerous books, learn knowledge she shouldn't have known. I suppose Tsubaki paid the price. Or not."
Zaito would take out his lighter and ignite a cigarette he also brought out, soon taking an inhale, followed by a slow, relaxed exhale.
"Zaito..what happened next?"
"Nothing pretty."
"On the wrong day, she read the wrong book, and it took it's toll. She had pulled out a book by the name of: "The Eye Of Der Teufel". Tsubaki gathered the ingredients and performed said taboo ritual. The ingredients included the blood of the caster. It was at least about liter. Some might even pass out just from that. Then.."
"Huh,why the pause? What went down?"
"That's the thing. Nobody can really say for sure. It was presumed that the ritual summoned some demonic being that bestowed the same accursed eye on Tsubaki. But of course, that idea is even preposterous."
"Well, you can never tell about these things. Has Tsubaki ever mentioned it?"
"Not once. Almost as if the damned event never happened."
"I guess that's it for now huh? I have another client coming in in about 10 minutes."
"Yeah, we can continue this chat later. Thanks, by the way. We should go grab coffee some time."
"That sounds good. Take care Zaito."
Zaito would nod before waving and leaving the large office. The sun seemed to be setting, casting a beautiful yellow color over the surroundings, slowly becoming engulfed in the darkness known as the night. As of this moment, Zaito still wondered about many things. He still did not have conclusive evidence suggestion Tsubaki encountered such a being. It was illogical in every way.
All the young adult could hypothesize, was the possibility that something entirely different happened at that time.
After a 15 minute walk(and a 5 minute taxi ride), Zaito had managed to get past the crowded part of New York. It seemed he was now entering the more peaceful and residential area of New York. Things slowly began to degrade in raucousness as Zaito walked further from the ocean dock of New York, only after a couple more minutes of this dreadful walking, would he finally manage to reach a small house called home.
Part 2:The "real" story
It was a Wednesday evening. Not just any wednesday evening, surely not, it was the wednesday evening. also known by a couple of irresponsible adults as the one and only game night. On this spectacular event, Zaito and a few head out to the nearby club, hit up some ladies have a drink and play poker, which, as of recently, it seems Zaito has increased in the skill of the game quite a bit since his first time playing. Zaito would walk into the game room, where many card and pool tables happened to be located. There sat kiba, along with a gruff looking man known by the name of Strawberry Yogurt Ichigo Yoguruto. The cards would soon be shuffled, before the dealer, Ichigo, would pass out the usual five cards to the other players.
Kiba would look to Zaito before staring toward Ichigo.
"Zaito, I heard from Kiba about Tsubaki." replied Ichigo to the staring as he drew as well as put back a card.
"I would be surprised if you didn't." Commented Zaito as he smirked at the good hand he seemed to have accumulated just now.
"You want to hear the rest of the story right?"
Ichigo and Kiba looked to each other before nodding to Zaito's rhetorical question. Rhetorical, because he had already begun the tale before a reply was received.
"Okay. From where we left off, the ritual had been completed. She had regained sight in her left eye, as well as the right one too. But it only took two minutes before tsubaki had realized the change. But as far as we know, life continued, with the family, strangely not commenting on the highly noticeable change in look.
At some point, were not entirely sure when; Tsubaki figured out she had extraordinary abilities. She probably practiced in her spare time for who knows how long."
the only thing that was for sure, was the fact that she had full control over this power, and a few students in her old school had gone missing with no possible suspects."
"You're saying that it's highly probable that Tsubaki had some sort of vendetta against those students?"
"I am." Replied Zaito laying his cards down face up with a smirk. "Full House."
"Are you kidding me?" Okami complained as he pushed 40 chips over to Zaito while Ichigo, having sat that betting spree out, admiring his own smart decision.
"One day, on her sixteenth birthday, Tsubaki came home early. It seemed the school had unfortunately given home a call about the missing student matter, and lets just say the Juriko's weren't too happy about this. They weren't even skeptical, they didn't care whether it happened or not. All that mattered was their daughter tarnishing the "good" name of the Juriko family. From what i understand on the reports, it says neighbors could actually manage to hear loud yelling coming from the Juriko residence."
"So, your saying Mr. and Mrs.Juriko were yelling really loud over something like that?"
"No. They were screaming." Everyone had seemed to stop at the table, along with the noise in the bar, everything just seemed to take a breather, hoping to get all of that info in there.
"What does that mean?"
"Well, if you haven't already connected the dots. This meant the parents did not commit suicide like police reports suggest, and the public believe. It was much deeper than that. Tsubaki was directly involved."
The three took another short moment of silence before Ichigo decided to break it by pulling a card from the deck.
This seemed to work surprisingly well, as Zaito didn't let another moment pass before continuing.
"Bang bang. Like that. Tsubaki has the strange ability to generate almost other worldly guns they can do anything from null pain to summoning god forsaken obstacles. I fought her in the past. It's a very hard style to trump. but...I suppose that's how she survived so long in such a world like this."
"Makes us all wonder."
"So she really killed her parents hm? I suppose theres no use in dwelling on the past. Tsubaki's here now isn't she?"
"Of course." Zaito would reply with.
Suddenly, the entrance to the game room would open, and the three poker-players would be greeted with the smiling face of Tsubaki.
Speaking of Tsubaki, she happened to know the rules of poker as well, but she never had an excuse to play.
"Oh my, so this was where you all were." Tsubaki would state with a rather curious expressiong before sitting down at one of the table chairs.
"Yeah, you wanna join us? I'm just about to hand Zaito's ass to him on a silver platter."
"Sh-shut up!" Zaito would say, jumping out of his chair and slamming on the table. Tsubaki on the other hand, would giggle at the common, but still somehow funny sight of Zaito embarrassing himself yet again.
The four players would continue to lay together, completely forgetting the serious conversation, and would eventually have the exciting game come to an end at 2:00am in the morning, suprisingly by Tsubaki somehow achieving a royal flush and claiming all of Zaito and friend's chips as well as tears. Eventually, after all was said and done, after goodbyes were given, and the best of wishes parted, Zaito and Tsubaki started back home.
By the time Zaito had drove Tsubaki back in Ichigo's car, she had long fallen asleep(or so Zaito was forced to assume). So awkwardly, the young adult's only option was to pick up tsubaki like the daughter she happened to be, and carry her to an area of more comfort(also known by it's generic name "The Bed" which would just so happen to be the place Tsubaki would have to wake up in in the morning, hopefully well rested, and ready for any challenges, encounters, or opportunities. many were around the corner of life, and a new chapter was starting.
