Personality
A severe case of persecution complex. He is prone to erratic mood swings and has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. On good days he can be described courteous, but aloof; on bad days, irritable and petulant. He has been on a mild form of lithium from the age of twelve - a treatment prescribed by his psychiatrist father. A great sense of self-awareness, though often clouded by the onset of adolescence. Deep down in his heart of hearts there is genuine compassion, but the circumstances of his life have all but snuffed it out of him.
Fighting Style
No fighting style or notable combat experience - an average athlete, at best. Participated briefly in school sports at the behest of his father, most notably cross country running, swimming, basketball, and archery - performed well below average in all, with the exception of archery.
Strengths
- Possesses a notable tolerance to physical pain (e.g. having cigarette put out on his skin without flinching)
- Above average marksmanship with bow and arrow (e.g. inter-city under-17 indoor archery runner-up)
- Hyperthymesia - an extremely detailed autobiographical memory (e.g. can recall the morning weather on his third day of school)
Weaknesses
- Emotionally unstable - unless properly medicated, prone to severe bouts of anxiety, anger, and depression
- Sickly from birth, possesses below average physical attributes - consistently falls below school physical fitness standards
- Lactose intolerant
History
The result of an unplanned pregnancy, Dietrich is the son of a psychiatrist father and painter mother. His father was apathetic to the idea of having children, but ultimately relented when his wife refused to terminate the pregnancy. Tragically, however, apathy would soon turn to hatred when Dietrich's mother died due to complications during birth. Shaken to his core, Dietrich's father initially considered giving Dietrich up for adoption, but ultimately decided to keep the child out of love for his beloved wife.
But try as he might, he could do nothing to temper his resentment toward his newborn son, whom he saw as nothing but a constant reminder of his wife's untimely death. This resentment would manifest itself as a passive-aggressive and dismissive attitude towards the child, and ultimately became the root cause of Dietrich's persecution complex and borderline personality disorder. As a result of his emotional instability, Dietrich would struggle through his early childhood, proving incapable of managing his emotions or developing personal relationships. The resultant frustration would lead to erratic and often self-destructive behaviour.
When medication finally proved to be only a half-measure or perhaps because he had simply reached his limit, Dietrich's father decided to send him away. He decided to ship him across the country to a relatively new institution in San Francisco, California - an institution built specifically for troubled and disorderly youth. Perhaps his final hope was that Dietrich could find peace he could not give him amongst the turbulent and lawless of Public High School #552.
