welcome
Welcome delinquents to PHS #552. A few reminders, no rough housing, no running in the hallways, no cheating, and no talking back to your teachers. Beyond that, enjoy yourselves. After all these are the years you’ll look back on, and remember, you mother fuckers peaked too early.

A brand new group is on the making, The Apostles, a Pillar-like group led by none other than our brand new headmaster, Gregoire Girard. A student body that would lead students and enforce the law on this little school of ours. Little is still known about this student body, but who knows? It might just be what the school needs.

A lunch box is seen last Friday, around 12:37:08pm with an encouraging note packed inside. This appalling display that utterly lacked manliness has left many students stunned and outrage, as some decided, after a long while, to speak out against it.

Vote! Expires tomorrow at 10 pm EST! Let your voice be heard!
PROS OF WARNINGS:: Everyone will know and get a chance to participate!
CONS OF WARNINGS:: Less opportunities for speed events, since they will no longer be based on Staff's free time during creation! And they were already going to be thrown up every week where there was no minor or major event planned!

I'm gonna insert another CON for warnings.
It limits creativity and pleasure per staff person in doing speed events. Leaving it "up to staff discretion" means that it depends on the person running the event. If a person has unexpected free time, why is the member base hampering something by making a 24-hour notice mandatory?
And leaving it up to staff discretion means that even if there is no warning by a certain staff member does not mean they will continue that trend, or that another staff member wouldn't give some notice, either.

The only thing I can say is a Pro, for me, is that people will more than likely see it if someone makes a post about it. I get how its easier to do it on the fly, but I also don't think it'd be too hard to post a quick thread letting people know that its happening. Personally, I'm fine with it going either way. I just know that if threads are made for speed events, I'll have a better chance at joining them. This is never a bad thing, even if the limit is one per month. I'd like it if I knew when they're happening. That's all.

POLL IS NOW LOCKED AT A TIE, 7-7
Since neither Yes nor No won the majority votes, a compromise will be reached. There will always be a warning before speed events, and warnings must be at least 15 minutes prior to the event, but this is all up to Staff discretion.
What does this mean?
If speed events are planned for at least 24 hours or longer: Players will receive a schedule of planned speed events for the coming weeks! This schedule will only include speed events that are planned in advance.
If speed events are not planned and are executed the same day their plot is conceived: Players will receive a warning ranging from fifteen minutes to twenty-four hours. Up to Staff discretion.

Well, I can see why someone would want notice, but i disagree with the pro-decision. having a warning's not the point of speed quests. The whole point of the term is to have a snap, one or two hour quicky that gives very little reward but allows both new and old members to cram in and get some cool, albeit unimportant stuff.
All of us, on the staff, are older and far less inclined to promise a speed quest 24 hours in advanced because our lives are hectic. When we're around and we know that, at THAT moment, we have a few moments to run a thread where most of the posts are handled with one liners and can do it on the fly, it gives us far more inclination and, let's face it, MUSE to do so. Most if not all of us can't promise speed quests within 24 hours or just over. That's why we have two other categories for more people to join that can be planned far in advance, that also give better rewards and might take several days to finish.
Having this restriction, for me at least and how my life goes (Working freaking 13 hour days or more, 12 days in a row), I probably won't do any speed quests, because i know in 24 hours things can change rapidly for me, or even in shorter times. I'd just stick with setting time aside far ahead of time for the other two categories and never utilizing that field.
*Shrug*
Just my tidbit.

Aaron and Phoebe more or less spoke my mind on the matter. I'm way too busy or my life is generally too hectic to promise a 24 hours in advance speed event. I could say I want to do it at, say... 2 PM, but not be able to end up to do it until 8 PM or maybe even at all that night. I don't like not being able to follow through on what I say I'll do, personally. And the rewards are generally very minuscule for these events to get too worked up about, they're more of meant to be fun filler for players old and new to get involved in.
I'm sure most of you have played MMOs of some sort. The Speed Events were more or less inspired by the various types of public events in these games (i.e. Fates in FFXIV, Public Events in Destiny) that come out of nowhere or with little warning and fly by quickly with small reward. You won't be there for all of them, but those you are there for give a nice and decent reward for the time you put into them. Coupled with the fact we currently have a one per month limit, and we plan to do two to five of these a month, so everyone can get involved into them (as currently we aren't allowing alts to do them).
If it becomes a problem, then we'll think of a revision for the system, but as it stands now with only one speed event done so far, I feel like it should be given more of a shot first. We'll have something of a warning for these as per the current compromise, but don't expect a ton of time for them as minor events (which give better rewards anyway). We'll probably even lower the rewards for the speed events from what was given in the first one done.

I'm fine with just a warning of it happening, honestly. After that, it should really just be the member's job to look out for it. I don't need a schedule for a quick little event. I get that most of us are busy to one extent or another, so I don't want you guys feeling pressured with something that should be fun for you.
So yeah, just a little notice. No need to go out of your way for something that was probably a spur of the moment thing, or close to it. The moment it becomes a chore is the moment it loses its appeal, especially for the staff. None of us want that.
