Vivi woke up to a glass of cold water to her face. Her violet eyes snapped open and she threw her fist out in the direction of the spray, but just swiped at air. When her vision cleared, she saw Stormy bending over her with an empty cup and a devious smirk on her face.
“Wake up, sleeping beauty,” she called, dancing away from Vivi’s bed and setting the cup on a dresser.
“My shift starts in a couple minutes and Takeshi says he has a few things planned for you,” she said with a grin, brushing some of her glossy red hair from her face. This girl annoyed the hell out of Vivi. Ever since she joined Takeshi’s staff, Vivi’s work life went from difficult, to difficult and totally annoying. The two of them spent most of their time at the apartments trying to get back at each other for previous deeds, and quite a bit of free periods at school texting insults to each other.
Vivi sat up and swung her legs over the side of her bed, watching the water drip from her violet hair onto her sheets. Was dousing her really necessary? She shot Stormy a death glare.
…Obviously not, but Stormy always took being sent to wake Vivi up as an opportunity to pour something on her or chuck something at her while she slept.
“I put a toad in your bed last night,” Vivi said with a yawn, “Did you feel it crawling up your legs as you slept?”
Stormy’s face paled, but she laughed it off.
“Yeah right, I didn’t see any damn toads…” she rolled her eyes and headed for the door, “Later, Vi.”
The violet haired girl got out of bed, and went to grab some clothes before chancing and doing her best to dry her hair. She wore a blue tank top and black shorts along with some sneakers, and clipped her bangs out of her face. Somehow she knew wearing her typical jacket and boots wouldn't go well with whatever activity Takeshi was planning.
Vivi’s phone buzzed on her night stand, and a text was lit up on the screen.
Meet me in the basement.
Of course. That’s where he typically trained Vivi and Stormy, had meetings, and occasionally full blown gang fights. Making her way out of her apartment, the girl would descend the stairs to the first floor of Himura Cafe, and walk behind the counter where Stormy stood, taking orders. Admittedly, Stormy was really attractive, so sometimes guys would come to the cafe just for the sake of seeing her. Vivi grimaced as she watched two dudes flirting with her. Stormy didn’t even seem to notice, ‘cause she was too busy drawing a picture in the vat of whipped cream she spilled.
Typical Stormy, with her room temperature IQ. According the Takeshi, the red head was very intelligent, but that was pretty difficult for Vivi to see. Opening the door in the back, she entered the storage room and made her way to the back. After reaching a shelf in the corner, she shoved it out of the way and descended the trap door beneath it by means of a ladder.
Vivi let go at the last few steps and landed on the concrete floor of Himura Cafe’s basement. It was a crappy place, in her opinion. It was pretty much empty except for a bunch of training equipment in the corner, and a door leading to an under ground bar.
In the middle, Takeshi stood next to a yoga mat with his arms folded across his chest.
“Alright, Perish, time to warm up with some sit ups,” he proceeded to sit on the yoga mat. Though she’d believed the yoga mat was for her for about three seconds, knowing Takeshi, he probably brought it as a place to sit while he watched her work out.
“Could I get some breakfast first?” Vivi asked hopefully.
“No.”
“Screw you, man.”
“Get down.”
Vivi sighed and laid down on the cold concrete, preparing to torture her stomach muscles. Placing her hands behind her head, she sat up to where her elbows nearly touched her knees, went back and repeated several times, as Takeshi counted. Once she got to twenty seven Vivi’s stomach muscles were starting to burn pretty badly, but she kept going, careful to control her breathing and conserve her energy. At fifty, Takeshi shot his foot out and kicked her in the side of the head, causing her to fall over on to her stomach.
“Dammit Tak!” Vivi grunts, sitting up and shooting him a glare, “When I agreed to let you train me, random kicking wasn’t in the deal.”
Takeshi somehow had a smoothie all of a sudden and sipped it as he watched Vivi, half listening to her.
“Uh-huh,” he glances up at the ceiling, “Now push ups.”
Vivi bit her lip to keep herself from complaining like a little kid, and went forward into a push up position, waiting for Takeshi to begin counting. After a good twenty of those, Takeshi came and sat on her back.
“If you can’t do one with me on you’re back, you’re doing thirty more,” he said matter of fact-ly.
Unfortunately, the small girl buckled under the mans weight and fell flat against the concrete, scraping her cheek on the rough surface.
“Get… the hell… off me…” she grunted.
For an agonizing ten seconds, Takeshi sipped his smoothie, and eventually got up, looking down at Vivi with a very condescending expression.
“Thirty more, get to it,” he said with a pointed look.
In spite of how much she wanted to smack that smoothie cup out of his hand, Vivi obeyed, and finished her quota. Upon stopping she laid flat on the concrete ground, catching her breath.
“You need to build your endurance, Perish,” Takeshi looked rather comfortable on his yoga mat, “Other wise you won’t last long in a fight.”
“You don’t say?” Vivi murmurs, sitting back up and wiping some sweat off her brow. Crashing noises could be heard up stairs, along with gruff voices yelling swear words, and a feminine voice returning the insults with twice the fury.
Stormy was probably getting into it with some of the customers again… it was a wonder that Takeshi still managed to get so much business when fights broke out in the cafe so often. Though, some suspected people came hoping to get a show, as viewers were never really harmed when a fight broke out, just the employees and the guys who picked the fight.
Thus, why Himura Cafe had three employees, all of whom were home-less and kind of desperate for a job to say the least. As she stared off in to space, Takeshi aimed a kick at her head. Fortunately, this time she saw it coming and managed to block it, taking most of the impact with her arms.
“Takeshi, one of these days I’m gonna sneak into your room while you’re working and turn everything in your room upside down.”
Takeshi sipped his smoothie and stared at the wall.
“And I’ll hang your under wear around the cafe entrance like a banner.”
Still no response. Vivi stood up and gave in to her temptation. She swatted the nearly empty smoothy cup out of the man’s hand and head-butted him in the chest. Okay, the head butt was a bit random, but she was mad, okay?
Takeshi frowned at his cup where it laid on the floor, and swung a punch at Vivi, who barely managed to dodge it.
“We’re going up, c’mon,” he jerked his head in the direction of the ladder, and the two of them came up into the storage room once more.
Stormy seemed to have cleaned up most of the messes she made, and seeing as there weren’t any people currently ordering, she leaned on the counter and stared at the window.
Vivi flicked the girl in the back of the head as they passed by, but it didn't provoke much of a response.
Takeshi suddenly stopped and Vivi bumped into his back.
“Make me another smoothie, then we’re going running,” he said, “Hurry up.”
Murmuring every swear word she could possibly think of, Vivi did as she was told. She took care not to step in the remaining whipped cream on the floor as she finished making the smoothie and came to hand it to Takeshi. After words, the two of them proceeded to go outside and into the dank streets. The two of them walked for a few minutes to get warmed up, before breaking into a run. Luckily, the streets were mostly empty, but they stuck to the side walks regardless.
Somehow, Takeshi was able to run while drinking a smoothie and not dripping anywhere. Vivi felt tempted to knock it out of his hand again. The pace slowly picked up, until they were running at a decent speed, Takeshi’s smoothie still miraculously staying in tact. Ten minutes past, and Vivi’s lack of endurance began to catch up with her. While her body felt fine, breathing was becoming difficult and she could feel her pulse drumming in her ears. It wasn’t too bad yet, though so she pushed on.
Soon they doubled back to head for the cafe again, hopefully Stormy hasn’t destroyed the place yet.
Ten minutes later, the two of them reached the cafe, and Vivi took a moment to lean on the door frame before heading inside. It was pretty chilly outside, so she hadn’t gotten too sweaty, but she was pretty tired regardless. Customers shot the two of them weird looks, which they promptly ignored before going to sit in the back room to catch their breath. Well, at least Vivi needed to catch her breath, Takeshi didn’t seem to be winded in the slightest. He just kicked back and lit a cigarette, while staring off into space as per fricken usual.
While he was busy thinking about who knows what, Vivi slipped upstairs to her apartment to change her clothes before coming down to find something to eat.
When she arrived at the bottom of the stairs, Takeshi was waiting for her.
“We didn’t do our hour long stretching and dumbbell lifting session,” he said simply.
“Can we save it for later?” I walk past him and back behind the counter. The cafe was pretty much devoid of customers, so Vivi went ahead and grabbed a few things to eat.
“We need to do it while you’re still warmed up from running, Perish,” he frowned.
“That was like, a half an hour ago,” she sighed, “Let’s call it a day.”
After several more minutes of arguing, Takeshi finally relented and Vivi and Stormy sat down to relax for a bit. Well, at least as much as you can around a Stormy. The girl was so fidgety, even looking at her out of the corner of your eye was enough to make you wanna bash her head into the wall.
When Stormy put on her head phones and began aggressively lip sinking a song while waving her hands around, the level of annoying was upped big time. The girl waved her hand one more time, and knocked Vivi’s plate off the table, shattering it into several pieces. Both girls paused and stared at each other.
“You’re cleaning that up,” Vivi snapped.
“Hell no, it’s your plate!” Stormy argued.
“You knocked it down!”
“It was in my way!”
The argument was interrupted when Takeshi came out of the back room, and both girls fell silent. It was too late though, he’d obviously heard their argument and saw it as another opportunity to burn them out.
“Perish, Paxton, stand up,” he clapped his hands, “If you can’t agree on who’s gonna clean it up you two are going to have to fight it out.”
The last thing Vivi wanted was to get into a fight, even if it was just with Stormy.
“Fine, I’ll—” Vivi began, but was quickly cut off.
“Don’t interrupt me, now get to it unless you want extra errands,” he insists.
Vivi turned to look at Stormy where she sat, only to see she had taken off, who the hell knows where she was now?
“Wait… where did she go?” Takeshi arched an eye brow, “Stormy?”
He turned around and headed for the stairs. Once he started up to the second floor, Vivi looked up to see Stormy perched in the rafters, her hair framing her face like a red halo. The girl stuck her tongue out and winked, giving Vivi the peace sign, before dropping from the rafters and heading to the exit.
“Later Perish, have fun cleaning up!”
Vivi sighed, and resisted the urge to give the girl the bird before proceeding to deal with the broken plate.
“Wake up, sleeping beauty,” she called, dancing away from Vivi’s bed and setting the cup on a dresser.
