Name: Jude Liang
Alias: N/A
Age: 15
Grade: Sophomore
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 140 lbs.
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Black
Appearance: Head/face – Depending on how desperately a haircut is needed, Jude’s hair style ranges from a medium-length, classic messy Asian look to a very long, loose ponytail. He has bright eyes, a friendly face, and an expression that is always calm or cheerful.
Body – Slightly skinny, if not average, build. Birthmark on left hip area about 6”x8” in size.
Attire – Jude is typically found sporting the same black collared jacket. It’s black and white with gold and turquoise accents. The shoulders are adorned with a featherlike design. Jude must have some sort of obsession with wings, as the rest of his clothing choices also tend to include some sort of feather motif. Pants are generic dark jeans or cargo pants, and shoes are generic white sneakers (i.e. Adidas Stan Smith).
Personality: Jude is quiet and easygoing, and keeps to himself most of the time. Other than eating, sleeping, studying, and martial arts training, Jude doesn’t do much. Reading fantasy novels, historical accounts, and instructional books is his leisure activity of choice. Sleeping is a close second.
Those that are close to him would tell you that he’s the life of the party…but only when he wants to be. True to this statement, Jude is passionate, energetic, and charismatic once his interest is piqued in a subject. In all other cases, he literally finds it difficult to stay awake. Being teased about his unisex name has also developed a little cynicism. Others (particularly the teachers who insist that he must be cheating to get those straight A’s) tend to have a bad impression of Jude because of his outward nonchalance. However, once you can get him to stay awake long enough to make friends, you’d be hard pressed to find a more loyal comrade.
A veteran practitioner of the “take deep breaths and count to 10” rule, Jude hardly ever gets visibly upset. Funny enough, patience isn’t one of his virtues, but he makes it seem like it is. In those rare situations where Jude lets go, his rage is supremely intense for all of about 2 minutes. Jude avoids showing this trait due to his discomfort surrounding it.
Fighting Style: Dislikes full-on fighting, but loves to spar and practice forms. Jude has basic book knowledge of most common martial arts, but only practices and prefers a few Chinese martial arts. These are, in order of proficiency: Wing chun, Chen style taiji, and sanda (comparable to MMA). Jude fights with the purpose of learning and understanding the interaction of bodies. He avoids mindless aggression, instead choosing to use focused, deliberate movements.
Strengths: Calm and patient, most of the time. Studies extensively in matters of interest (e.g. He has reviewed every bit of history and technique available regarding his favorite martial arts). High creativity and an active imagination.
Weaknesses: Falls asleep easily and can space out at inopportune moments. Really dislikes pain, both his and others’. Related to the previous point, Jude can’t really take a hit. Finds it hard to refuse requests.
History: Unlike the typical PHS #552 student, Jude Liang is a straight A student who would rather spend a Friday night reading Eastern classic novels than duking it out in the schoolyard. A native of Flushing, Queens, Jude was orphaned at birth. He was taken in by Uncle Jiang (nobody knows whether he’s actually the uncle), who raised him and trained him in Chinese martial arts. Jude’s childhood can basically be summarized as training, eating noodles, and of course, staying at the top of his class in school.
Like the typical PHS #552 student, Jude Liang somehow found himself with a one-way ticket to a den of delinquents. It began one day after school, when a triumphant Jude arrived at home with his perfect report card. But something was amiss—where was the familiar scent of homemade noodles? Where was the sound of the tea kettle? And the cheerful tune that Uncle was always whistling? The apartment was the same as it always was. Yet no sign of Uncle could be found. That day, Jude found himself all alone for the second time in his life. Only this time, he was old enough to know it. Following that event, Jude made a meager income by doing homework for the rich kids, and lived off of rice and canned beans. His clothes might have been worn to rags and his pencils to nubs, but Jude Liang managed to maintain his grades and martial arts skills.
Jude could very well have graduated as valedictorian and proceeded to the academic career of his choice. But of course, the one-way ticket to a den of delinquents, remember? Long story short: While taking a makeup test for a spoiled buffoon in exchange for $5, Jude was apprehended by some muscled enforcers. “Hey buddy. Your parents said you’ve been getting into some trouble lately. You don’t look like the type to start a fight…but sorry, kid. It ain’t up to me. Take him away, boys.” Before he could even open his mouth in protest, Jude was hoisted into a bus with a bag over his head. Next stop, PHS #552.
