HOW TO MAKE A BALANCED CHARACTER
__________________________________________________________
Note: total up your points and check the reference sheet at the end.
01. Think of this more as a guideline than a rule.
02. You are not obligated to listen to this.
03. It's perfectly alright to have marks!
04. This is not referring to anyone in the board in any way. This is simply a list of improvement and observations frequently noted in RP sites.- - -
NAMES:
Firstly, examine the ethnicity of your character. Here are the most common ethnicities seen around the board:
● Japanese [ ♂ - ♀ ]
● French [ ♂ - ♀ ]
● English [ ♂ - ♀ ]
● Chinese [ ♂ - ♀ ]
[x] Contains links to suggestions of such names.
Note: Ensure that the ethnicity and your character’s name correlate, or have an extremely good reason why they don’t. (Ie. Your character is adopted.Your character is actually a secret flying unicorn. Etc)
mixed character(s) :
Many characters have a mixture of different ethnicities on the board. Now, note that mixed characters are usually the first sign of an overly perfect, imbalanced character. While it’s perfectly alright to have a mixed character, please note that it might not be entirely realistic, for in United States, 68 percent of the people are reported to be single-race.
mixed name(s) :
If your character’s full name is derived from more than one ethnicity, +1 point for every different name based of ethnicity you are using. For example, Mavis Takumi (+1 point since Mavis is English, and Takumi is a Japanese name.) Mavis Huang Takumi (+2 points since “Huang” is a Chinese surname.)
note:
refrain from making your character a mix of many different races (more than 2 or 3), for that’s rather uncommon, and if your character is a mix of more than 2 or 3 ethnicities, add one point.
‘UNIQUE’ NAME(S):
Does your character have a name chosen... :
a. Because it sounds exotic? (if so, +1 point)
b. Because it sounds pretty? (if so, +1 point)
c. Because it makes your character stand out more? (if so, +1 point)
d. Because it’s a twist on normal words, for you switch out the spelling? (ie. Light as lyte, Milk as Mylk?) (If so, +201 point)
EXTRA: If your character has
● Blood
● Raven
● Shadow
● Midnight
● Sword
● Weapons
● Lightning
● Fiend
● Phoenix
● Mythical creatures
● Gore
● Weaponry
Or any names that involve an adjective/noun that isn’t typically used in names, +1 point for every word used in the character’s name. Please note that this is not referring to nicknames.
