Name: Born name: Katie Linda Jones Number: Test Subject #208 Current name: Sophia Jeong
Alias: While technically Test Subject 208, due to her personality her father came to call her Aergia, named after the Greek goddess of sloth and laziness. And it is what he dubbed the project title.
Age: 18
Grade: Junior
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 122 lbs
Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color: Dark brown
Appearance:
Sophia appears like any ordinary girl. She is a young woman of average height, with long, dark brown hair and large blue eyes. Due to mostly staying indoors, her skin is fair and generally clear, free of makeup, markings, and piercings. While very much inactive, she often forgets to eat and is lithe and slender. Most often she can be found in comfortable clothing, whether that be sweats/jeans and a jacket or a flowy dress/skirt and blouse. Because of her disorder and an effect being unable to feel differences in temperatures, it is not uncommon to see her wearing clothing unsuitable for the season, such as a summer dress or a tank top and shorts in the middle of winter or a coat and warm sweatpants during a hot summer day.
Condition:
Sophia was born with a dangerous condition known as congenital analgesia, which makes her incapable of feeling physical pain. While Sophia is capable of feeling pressure and can acknowledge stimulus, the sensation of pain, such as when being cut or hit, does not register within her brain, and so she won't flinch or cry out upon receiving injury. She is also unable to feel changes in temperature, and so it is not uncommon for Sophia to wear inappropriate clothing during the different seasons, such as a summer dress in the midst of winter or a heavy sweater or coat during the summer.
**Note: Her condition is currently non-combative. It is only in effect during social threads. Will earn the ability for combat use in the future.**
Personality:
Friendly
Despite her background, where most might become aggressive or distrusting, Sophia is quite the opposite; she is the type of person who has never met a stranger she didn't like. Sophia is very easy-going, and outgoing when she is not too tired to engage.
The girl is exceptionally amiable, without real prejudice, although not from being a good person but due to the fact that it takes too much effort to care for anything deeply. As such, she is incredibly difficult to anger or sadden, her carefree attitude making it hard to offend Sophia, even when she probably should be. If anything, Sophia can be too friendly, not really taking cues of when she should be more withdrawn or cautious.
Selfish
It should be noted, however, that her kindness is at a superficial level. What may seem like a connection between the two to someone is merely a spark of intrigue to Sophia. She loves to engage in conversation and to get along, but to genuinely care for someone's well-being is far too much effort for her. If a so called friend (she uses the term loosely, mind you) were to be in mortal danger and they were to plead for assistance, Sophia would not engage. In fact, it is unlikely she will help anyone at all, in any situation, even her beloved guardian. When she is needed to extend her effort, suddenly then her friendship requires too much of her and she will not lift a finger. Sophia is more than happy to accept aid, but she will not return it. Essentially, people are to do things for her, not the other way around, not out of pride or some grandiose sense of self but because she is terribly lazy.
While there may appear to be cruelty within Sophia, this is not the case; she does not take pleasure from people's pain or suffering. But she is entirely indifferent and her comfort is her priority, making her quite the cutthroat in some situations.
Lethargic
The intensity of Sophia's laziness is immense. For days, even weeks, at a time, she will not leave her apartment, scarcely even the living room. She moves simply to relieve herself and if she remembers and is bothered enough to eat, venturing out when boredom, curiosity, or a need for attention overwhelms her lethargy. The only reason Sophia is clean and healthy is due to the attentive care of her guardian, whether directly so or through calls and texts from Ku while he is working or away.
Not only is the young woman a low-energy individual, but she is also quite indifferent. Sophia has few cares in the world, and this is entirely evident upon speaking with her. While she takes interest in people and things, her interests only reach so far, as passion requires far too much effort and energy. Growing offended and becoming angry or upset means caring deeply about something, and so Sophia simply doesn't bother, instead taking light interest and committing only so long until she is ready for a nap.
Her loyalty only lies with her father, her guardian, and her own selfishness.
Limited Loyalty
Her genuine loyalty is incredibly limited, only entirely extended to her father, who is now deceased (which makes it entirely a moot point.) At the time, she happily did whatever he asked, entirely carefree during the numerous tests performed upon her. He was the only one for years to give her any real attention or nurturing, and so an attachment formed.
Sophia also loves her guardian and, while it is not something she has ever actively thought about, his death and suffering would devastate her. Yet Ku is her guardian, her servant if you will, and as such he serves her. It is her expectation for him to take care of her and to bend to her whim, although her respect for Ku leaves her rarely to argue if he makes demands of or chastises her. Unless she feels the strong incentive to do something of interest to her that he dislikes, Sophia seeks her Ku's approval and attention. In fact, it is only for the reason that Ku panics and worries for her that she tries to avoid injury to the best of her ability, although she is still not as careful as she should be.
Intuitive
While not as observant as her cautious Ku, Sophia is an intuitive girl. She can be aware of things not in the now, or the physical world, or what is right in front of her. Details and her surroundings may pass her by, but Sophia has a knack for understanding themes and things on a deeper level. While not exactly empathetic, she is sometimes decent at making silent (or spoken) observations of people or situations.
Fearless
Due to her indifference and inability to feel pain, the young woman has a complete lack of fear, something that worries her guardian to no end. Sophia does not comprehend fear, at best understanding its purpose. But an intellectual understanding of it is hardly adequate, not actually developing any sort of sense of trepidation, and her fearlessness has put her in danger more than once.
***Deep down, Sophia does, however, fear a life without Ku, although it is not something that has ever been at the forefront of her mind, as he has always been in the picture. He is the only thing she deeply cares about any longer and the girl would be unable to function without him.***
Curious
Sophia is as curious as a cat, and it is only because of Ku and the fact that she scarcely leaves the house aside from school that she hasn't been killed. Despite her laziness, the young woman is an intellectual creature and when something piques her interest, overcoming her sloth nature, she has no reservations to investigate, whatever it may be. After all, to Sophia the satisfaction of appeasing her hunger for knowing is always well worth it.
Her sometimes intense curiosity coupled with her fearless is a dangerous combination, and undoubtedly one of Sophia's attributes that could easily lead to her demise.
Fighting Style:
It is only because of the pushing of Ku that Sophia has even the slightest capability to fight, and even so her style is sloppy and unpredictable. She has a tendency to use heavy, blunt objects, her preference a large warhammer she can swing around. Of course, since weapons are not allowed at school, it is kept at her home.
Strengths:
When not experimented on as a child, Sophia was frequently read to, and it wasn't long before she learned to read and dove into books. Her intellect is one of Sophia's greatest attributes, but her intelligence extends simply to book smarts and intuition; she has no level of street smarts whatsoever. When she is not too lazy to do work, she excels academically and in intellectual settings. Her friendliness also makes it easy for Sophia to gain friends. And while she has little knowledge for fighting, leaving confrontations for Ku, her physical condition makes it impossible for her to feel pain. No matter how many times she is hit and broken, she will not buckle, even when she should, and her carefree attitude makes it just as difficult to break her emotionally.
Weaknesses:
Her inability to feel physical pain is a double edged sword; without the feeling of pain, Sophia is unaware of when she is in physical danger and needs medical attention and/or should stop, and even if made aware of danger, it is incredibly unlikely she will illicit a proper response and get her ass in gear. It is out of her nature, as well as acting against her own comfort, making her an exceptionally selfish person. Not to mention her complete lack of drive. Also, her indifference makes meaningful connections nearly impossible and can leave her awkward and blunt at times, although her intuition can sometimes make her inclined to not say something offensive. However, she can be honest to a fault. It should be noted the girl is emotionally stunted. Even when she has deep conversation, Sophia is superficial. She is the kind of person who may seem to have a lot of friends, but her loyalty and involvement is limited, and with prying it is more than obvious.
History:
Katie Linda Jones was born to two highly intelligent scientists who had met while in their doctorate program, years after the two had worked on numerous projects, studies, and papers together. They were an incredible team, publishing great works, and they likely could have made just as wonderful parents, if little Katie hadn't piqued their scientific minds. It became apparent at a very young age that their daughter had no reaction to instances of pains, times that any other child would have wept and screamed. When they weren't looking one afternoon, baby Katie touched the stove and, despite the burns, had no response. She continued to play until she was swept away, and the two were baffled and bewildered. It wasn't long after they discovered little Katie had congenital analgesia. But instead of being concerned parents, growing overprotective, they became fascinated, intrigued. And so they started another study, the star subject being their own child.
Instead of going to school and making friends, playing in the yard and having a childhood, she spent her time in a lab, frequently poked and prodded. She was raised in such a setting, and while to her father there was still some semblance that she was his daughter, her mother was engorged in their work. When the studies weren't going on, father read to her, played with her; he was her sole companion during amidst the cold, sanitary surroundings. She wasn't purely a test subject for him, and it was something the child picked up on and appreciated, even if she didn't mind or care about the experiments. He even came to affectionately refer to her, not as her number, but as Aergia, in jest towards her exceptional slothful and indifferent nature.
[Subject to change. Add details and rearrange later when I'm not dying from agony.]
While content to lay her in white room and sleep the days away when not forced to stay awake and answer questions, at times boredom overwhelmed the girl as she grew up, and she would escape and explore, much to the chagrin of the scientists, who had to chase her down and search for the curious child. And it was that which saved her very life. During one of her escapes, the very last when she was twelve years old, she came back to find the facility destroyed. She felt nothing but confusion and wandered off again, having nowhere to go. And it is then she met a tall Korean man by the name of Ku Jeong. He was about to commit suicide and she saved his life by drawing him in, captivating him, giving him another reason to live, something to fight for. It seemed hardly coincidence she came across him and deemed the man as an older brother and that he would care for her, which he took to.
And over the last few years, Ku has taken the girl in, who went as Sophia, a name she took a fancy to, and took on his surname. Ku is her legal guardian, and acted as a teacher as she attended high school. During her senior year, civilians in NYC were evacuated and Ku and Sophia moved to San Francisco. She started school and he picked up work, keeping a close eye on her per usual. It is now her senior year and when she actually bothers to attend class and do her homework, she does quite well. With the new move in a decidedly safer city, Ku hoped it was the end of all of the conflict, although much to his chagrin the new PHS #552 was moved in their new hometown. Life is funny that way sometimes, isn't it?
