Name: James C. Griffin
Alias: Jack, also Blond-Haired Idiot
Age: 17
Grade: Junior
Height: 5'11''
Weight: 147 lbs
Eye Color: Dark blue
Hair Color: Blond
Appearance:
Formerly very short, Jack has grown a lot over the past year, and is now reasonably tall. Unfortunately, he isn't quite used to this, so his movements tend to be a bit clumsy. His yellow hair is almost always a complete mess, and badly cropped at mid-length. He's got a fair amount of muscle from his age, though it's more the kind that comes from running around and fighting a lot rather than dedicated training. His posture is confident when he knows people are looking, lazy when he doesn't.
He wears his old school uniform from PHS 137 quite often, even outside of classes. It's an old and battered thing, covered in stains, stitched badly in several places where it's been ripped. Otherwise, he seems to have a thing for more formal clothing- although due to his lack of money, he can't afford anything nice. Being stuck in District 552 has limited his options even more.
Personality:
Outwardly he has matured a good deal recently, but inside Jack's still quite the firecracker. Righteous, proud, and completely oblivious to the way of things, he has but one goal: to be the strongest. Education can get go fuck itself: on the street, it's the ones who can fight that survive. Because of this, Jack is somewhat eager to punch people, and will not hesitate at any opportunity to get his hands dirty. He doesn't often listen to authority either, which makes getting into trouble even easier...
In spite of his aggressive pursuit of strength, however, he does have certain moral standards. He won't attack people weaker than him without a good reason (note: deliberately pissing him off counts as a good reason), and people stronger than him deserve an honest, up-front challenge if he's going to go at them. He's quite protective of other students and young people (especially girls), and will stand in the way of anyone who would harm the weak or vulnerable.
Though fairly unintelligent, he learns well from experience, and has started to pick up some social skills. Still, though no longer nervous, he often gets confrontational, and can't seem to throw his unfortunate tendency to make random dramatic monologues.
Jack isn't one for advice or orders, and will usually ignore them, or at least pretend to. Those he respects, however, he will heed, even if he doesn't appear to at first glance.
Fighting Style:
No-holds-barred. Jack has no martial training, but does have great deal of experience. He has a tendency to rely on head-long attacks, but time and countless mistakes have taught him to add a pinch of subtlety, and he is not above using dirty tricks and improvised weapons to win. Overall, his swinging fists are wild and untrained, but his relentless ferocity, honed instincts, and general disregard for his own safety will sometimes give him an edge.
Strengths: Jack possesses immense willpower, is utterly fearless, and will stop at nothing to plant his FIST in your FACE if provoked. He also has a strong sense of justice, and will rarely back down on his morals. Generally quite loyal and trustworthy. Also good at climbing things, and an epic-level skateboarder.
Weaknesses: He'sdumb as a brick not particularly intelligent, and incredibly reckless. Struggles in school, and doesn't care much about schoolwork as a result. He's friendly, but his social skills still need some work. In addition, he's easily provoked, easily frustrated, and refuses to admit any kind of inferiority.
History:
The Griffin family was never particularly wealthy, and Jack was born near their lowest point. His mother May was an alcoholic, his father a struggling artist whose job was made all the more difficult by life at home. They weren't exactly bad people, but circumstances prevented them from taking much care of their children.
So as a young boy, Jack ran wild. He misbehaved in school, got into fights with other children, and would often run off into the streets on his own. Because of his family's poverty and his own lack of discipline, he was quickly picked out as a target for bullying. Jack, of course, fought back.
At first, he was beaten, and beaten badly. But time after time, he refused to back down, and after a couple years he found himself smacking down his enemies, demolishing anyone who dared attack him. For a time, he was the strongest in his school (which wasn't saying much), and to Jack, it was as if he were the strongest in the world.
But his parents, around this time, had gotten into debt with the wrong people, and had run afoul of a loan shark, who began to close in on them, making threats. Their children weren't meant to know, but Jack's older sister (who was far cleverer than him) found out. Foolishly, she told him, and Jack did the craziest thing possible.
At the time, he thought he was the strongest, having never fought anyone outside his own little school. So he wandered into the back alleys, found the loan shark, and challenged him to a fight.
The kid got demolished, of course. As hard as he fought, there was little he could do against a grown man, who was no weakling himself. Jack received bruises all over his body, and several broken bones. He might even have been killed, had the local gangsters not found the whole affair highly amusing.
The boy crawled home to his parents, miserable tears streaking down his face, and explained to them what had happened. He expected his father to be angry, to go out and beat up the man who had done this to him. But instead, he was only reprimanded, and told not to do such things, never to put himself in dangers, and that sometimes one just had to accept one's place in the world.
Jack didn't listen.
His father had disappointed him, by telling him he should back down. Fuck that! Jack would do things his way from now on. With this thought burning like a hot ember in his mind, he called the cops, and led them straight to the motherfucker who had hurt him.
The man was arrested, and things seemed to be going well at first... but there wasn't enough evidence for a conviction. Within weeks, the loan shark was free, and Jack's parents fled, fearing for their own safety. Jack himself ended up in the hands of the government for a while... luckily, his sister Maya was old enough to act as a guardian, and she let him stay in her apartment. He was sent to a new school well away from his original home, one where hopefully he would be able to focus on his studies... Public High School 137.
Unfortunately, 137 was a violent place, and soon Jack found himself embroiled in brawl after brawl, battling invading gangs and other students on a daily basis. He made some friends there, and started to learn how to keep himself under control a little better. However, even in a school meant for violent delinquents, Jack proved too much to control, becoming involved in a large number of devastating incidents. He was pulled from the school, and placed in detention while the authorities decided what to do with him.
For one so difficult to control, one who was clearly growing more powerful at such an exceptional rate, there was only one place left. One year after he left 137, Jack was moved to District 552...
