I would turn to Ruby and pull out a little smile.
"Are you getting it Ruby-chan??"

Ruby would look over to Finn and give a nod. "I think so, Finn-kun," she said, frowning a bit as she was sure she was using the right honorific. She didn't really plan on going to Japan, but she was still picking up on the language quickly enough, so if she'd been thrown into Japan out of nowhere, she would probably be fine... it would be better than when she was randomly dropped off in Russia, wouldn't it? Well, regardless...

Steven smiled at the pair, if Fin though there would have been issues so far, didn't even get what was coming. Asking for direction was only half the story, half what was required, no even less then half. It was a quirk of learning any language really. Learning how to ask a question was easy, you could just remember a certain phrase and look up any word word that you might have to change, but the response was ten times harder. Understanding the response from asking for direction for instance, could be so varied the amount a person needed to understand was great. Steven would go slow, repeating as needed and giving the other two chance and used examples after telling them some words and how they would string together. Giving them a list of words and phrased often used. Explaining the difference between someone saying 'kōsaten o hidari ni magaru' and someone saying 'Kōsaten
de sasetsu' both meaning to turn left at an intersection, and there opposites 'kōsaten o migi ni magaru' and 'Kōsaten de
usetsu' meaning the same but for the right. Diversity in language at its greatest --- (OOC: Sorry I was getting a bit out of my depth lol, I could probably understand it but trying to explain it from that may be a bit beyond me. I will hopefully pick a topic next that I can actually managed, I didn't realise how complex directions could be when i originally picked it lol.) |
