Day One
New York was too damn expensive.
James had tried to avoid staying at the school dorms - at least for about fifteen minutes. One look through the apartment listings on his phone squashed all hope of living off campus - and so he stood messenger bag slung over his left shoulder, staring dejectedly at the two story building that was his new home. Running his hands through his unkempt mohawk he put on his best 'fuck off' scowl and headed towards his room, number ***. He could only thank whatever small fortune there was that it was a single person dorm, he never did well without time to recharge alone.
Ascending the stairs to the second floor, James found his room without much trouble. He found the door unlocked and so with a deep breath he entered. It was a plain room, simple hard wood floors with plain white walls. A small twin sized bed was included, as was a small desk. It was narrow, almost like a walk in closet in width - but that didn't bother James much. Throwing his bag onto the bed he took off his leather jacket and hung it on the back of the desk chair.
Step one was to get settled - step two was get a part time job. He had worked a job at a lumber mill back home, but it was unlikely he would find a similar job in New York. He briefly mused at selling his body, but figured the escort game was probably flooded in such a big city - and he wasn't anywhere near attractive enough to seduce someone else's clients.
That left something shit, like fast food.
"Ahh-ahhh, whatever. It's not like it matters." James said to the walls, he wanted the job to buy a computer and maybe meet someone but his motivation wasn't high and he didn't see much point in working in fast food just to buy a computer. "I wonder if it is community bath or if this little place has it's own shower."
He found the answer easy enough when he entered the bathroom, a small stand up only shower tucked into the left corner. 'Better than nothing' He stripped, showered and donned a new set of clothes - a simple white t shirt and tight fitting black jeans with a pair of converse. It was time to explore his new surroundings, if it at least a little bit.
As he prepared to walk out the door his phone played a simple tone, James answered knowing full well who it was - not even bothering to look at the screen. "Hi Mah. Hm? Yeah yeah. I'm fine. No no, the room is nice. Yeah, I already made a friend. I told you that was a baseless rumor, but not it isn't an older man. Their name? Mike. Yeah, seems like a nice guy. He showed me around the school." Lies; nothing more then self serving lies to keep his mother happy. It was the tactic he always chose when pressed - tell her what she wants to hear, better then having her worry.
"Love you too, but I gotta go. Going out to get something to eat. Yeah, I'll be careful. Bye" Sliding the phone back into his pocket James sighed at the ceiling before opening his door - and then promptly closing it once more. It wasn't like it really mattered what the surrounding area looked like, and lying to his mother had sapped what little motivation he had to go and try to introduce himself to anyone he might have seen. He wasn't here to make friends, and he doubted if any of these other punks were interested in befriending some suburban self pity party slut.
Throwing himself onto the bare bed he removed the phone from his pocket, going to his favorite manga site and flicking through the various selections before stopping on 'Domestic na Kanajo' - some goofy shoujo manga about a dude who is in love with his teacher who ends up becoming his sister.
He was a sucker for love stories, and his search history was more shoujo and yaoi then it was ever anything you'd expect from a young, mohawked freshmen. He caught up on his chapters in no time at all, and with some boredom switched over to the Netflix app. Arms aching from holding the phone over his head for so long he turned to his side, laying it against the wall and flipping through the various selections.
"I guess I should just fucking go outside." He declared to himself and slide the phone back in his pocket. It seemed like he actually needed to get that damn computer, or he was going to go crazy fiddling with his phone alone in his room. Time to go ask around for any places hiring from the other students, much as that seemed like a drag.
Dragging himself out the door he looked around to see if any students were just standing around, but found none. 'Of course no one is just going to be loitering in the fucking dorms - where the fuck do people even hang out around here?' It was a damn good question, and it wasn't one James was any closer to figuring out standing like an idiot in front of his room. Locking his door behind him James went to the front of the building, looking around the campus with a shrug. "Tsk - well I guess I'll just smoke and see if anyone shows up. If no one does ill just go to sleep, fuck it." He mumbled to himself as he placed a hand rolled, red colored cigarette into his mouth. A few flicks of his cheap lighter and the powerful cinnamon smelling smoke overpowered any other scent near the dorms, the flavored tobacco was something outlawed years ago because it encouraged kids to smoke - but it wasn't so hard to find online and it tasted a hell of a lot better then the shit you could buy at the store.
So the waiting game began.
( OOC - This turned into a damn wall - hope it isn't too shitty it has been awhile since I've roleplayed outside of D&D )
